Nice, but the same as all other caver y’all really. But more pricey than most and be prepared to queue up. It’s like Alton towers some days. The deserts are phenomenal though, ice cream looks more like a work of art!

There’s a reason this place is always so busy! For a sunday carvery you couldn’t ask for anything more, huge selection and huge plates(well if you pay for the big plate option — not bad for under a tenner). They have the full Sunday dinner works, plus more(two different types of mash potato, roast potato, spicy roast potatoes and baby potatoes) and then the veg selection is just a vast, far more variety than other carverys I have been too. The cakes are also out of this world, huge portions and very tasty, it makes Applewood Farm stand out from competitors, the«cake away» option is ideal because there is no way I was going to be eating a giant éclair after my «go large» carvery. If visiting on a Sunday be prepared to wait around 30 – 45 mins to be seated, there is plenty of space around the bar to enjoy a drink or two while you wait. Great value, we had two large carverys, one cake to take away and four drinks and the bill was less than £30.

The saving grace for this place is that the food is of good standard. The service however lets it down…

Go here for the cakes. The carvery is good(but trust me, you never need to supersize! The regular plate is plenty) but the cakes are out of this world — if you have a sweet tooth look no further! If you’re feeling particularly hungry go for the scoop of the ice cream as well — so many amazing flavours and its some of the creamiest ice cream you’ll ever eat!

Mixed feelings about this place… on one hand the food, especially the roast dinners are very nice. The problem is the queuing and waiting about that you have to do. Kind of feels like being at school waiting for your dinner when there are two hundred people before you!!! I’d say try it but maybe go midweek when it’s less busy and if you can fit it in go for one of their giant deserts although we have never managed it due to being stuffed after the main course!

Traditional pub serving the usual pub style meals. The carvery on offer does allow for a huge portion and is reasonably priced. There is a lot of choice on the normal menu that will satisfy most people. My only concern is the quality of the food which seems either frozen or cheaply sourced. Other than that a good place for a meal and a few drinks. The place is always quite busy as well. Applewood also specialises in desserts with huge cakes on display in which you can take a slice home after your meal, they are delicious!

I’ve eaten at Applewood Farm a number of times since it opened a few years ago in Astley. I would definitely recommend it(best if you drive as it’s a bit out the way unless you live in Astley /Tyldesley). It’s great for families with young children as they have a family section with play area. And also great for couples /adult groups as their eating area is totally separate from the children’s area so your dinner isn’t disturbed by tantrums etc. I have to admit that whilst the starters and mains are pretty good by the other local pubs standards — my favourite is the salad plates(which are colossal btw) — the savoury food is not really where this place shines. The best thing about the place is actually the ice cream bar & incredible cake selection. I would go, just to have a cake date with a girlfriend tbh. The place would have a better vibe if it were in a traditional pub building — alas it’s a totally new building, decorated to look traditional(which isn’t really my cup of tea). But this is an incredibly busy place, so the setting doesn’t seem to bother anyone else — it’s packed whenever you go — wait until you see the Carvery Q!

Going to the pub for a evening meal before the monday night quiz is what we were up to that fateful evening. I opted for the Bhaji burger. Everything on the plate, Was brilliant apart from the actual burger. Beautiful buns, salad was crisp and the chips perfection but the burger was like a cheap imitation of a mcdonalds cheap burger. My partner in crime had surf and turf and everything again was great apart from the scampi but over fried and very tough. Service was very slow but this is to be expected on one of wayne’s quiz nights! Its cheap and the carvery is very good! Its worth going just for the marvellous collections of ice cream they have! Snickers is the Don!

Had a lovely meal at Applewood Farm. They are well known for their gargantuan desserts. However, I’ve not got much of a sweet tooth so it’s the main course I prefer. They do have larger than average portions for a British restaurant, not quite up to American standards, but getting there! I had a large cod, chips and peas which I really couldn’t fault and my dining partner had a chicken breast with bacon and mushrooms in a Diane sauce which was also excellent. The menu is extremely extensive including many choices for vegetarians and coeliacs. In addition to the main menu they also have a carvery which looks awesome. I’ll have to go back to try that!

Applewood Farm is a traditional style large food pub in Tyldsley. It serves classic pub grub along with some other interesting additions, and prides itself on its dessert offerings, particularly its cake and ice cream. I’ve heard a lot of praise for it, so decided to finally give it a try for lunch whilst I was nearby. The first thing you notice is that this big traditional style pub is pretty much in the middle of nowhere. You drive along, and it suddenly pops up out of thin air. It has a big car park, but seems to get busy pretty quickly. I must admit, my first impression on walking through the door wasn’t positive. It was very busy, and a frantic looking female staff stood behind a large stack of dirty plates sitting on the«please wait here» podium, and then simply said«two?», before dashing off and then coming back to say«just through there on the right hand side». I would’ve liked to have been taken there really. The décor is a modern interpretation of a classic pub style, and it works pretty well, remaining efficient and clean looking with bright colours and various bits of art and knick-knacks whilst retaining a traditional atmosphere. It was surprisingly busy throughout the pub for a thursday afternoon, with a bustling but pleasant feel. Once inside you realise the size of the place, with different rooms leading off the main thoroughfare, to booth seating along it. As well as the dining pub option, there is also a large carvery counter further into the pub, where you can choose a plate size for a set price, then go and check out the tasty looking carvery options. We ordered a couple of classics in the form of beer battered cod and chips, and steak and ale pie. The wait time for both was reasonable, and the first thing that hit us was the sheer size of the portions! The food was delicious. I loved the crispy bubbly batter, and the tartare sauce, and Phil R loved the quality of the«oh god, it’s half a pie!» he was tucking into. We didn’t have room for dessert, but had a good look through the huge book of desserts, puddings and ice creams, and as delicious the descriptions of the sweet treats were, we decided that we’d try their«cake-away» option, where you can take a slice of their cakes home with you to enjoy later. Knowing that their target customer would probably be full by now, but priding themselves on their desserts, this is a clever move! When you get to the desserts counter, you can see how crazy their ice cream presentation is, bordering on American in presentation, but also very tempting! The one thing you’ll notice though is the sheer size of the cakes! They’re colossal! The slices are £4+ in the menu, which might make you bawk a little until you see the sheer size of the things! We opted for the Millionaire’s Cheesecake, and the Banana Chocolate Chip cake, which come in a plastic box with a small tub of cream each. Lovely. We ate them many many hours later, but enjoyed the flavour lots. The banana cake was tasty and moist with lots of flavour, and the cheesecake was tasty, but just too big. The middle layer was a solid 6 inches of pure cheesecake, meaning that you didn’t get so much of the base or the top with it, which made it a little hard going. Some of the other cakes appeared similar to me, where the middle was just a bit too large unless it was in layers, but with how popular they obviously are, who am I to question?! I loved it here, it’s somewhere I’d be happy to bring my mum and dad sometime and know that they’d enjoy it, and the same with friends and colleagues. It has something for everyone. Phil R already stated that he wants to return there next month for his birthday! That’s that then!

Excellent restaurant if you have young children. There is a play area at the end of the dining room. My kids are 3, 5 and 7.5 and love the place. Very family style and the desserts and home made ice creams are out of this world. Oh and the carvery is very good also.
