Its very nice but its a bit like a cross between a pub and your lounge. Its very old beams and dark wood. The beer quality is very good however and to be honest the price was good a bit of a surprise.

The pub is much nicer now after being restored by English Heritage. Interior is cosy and comfortable. Beer is always good with varieties such as Brakspear and Doombar. Haven’t tried the food since Christmas 2011. I remember the portions being small with no vegetables. I hope it’s better now. All in all a good friendly local pub in the centre of town.

To the landlord/landlady: — you have yourself a stunning pub, but why oh why would you paint gorgeous exposed beams putrid yellow? To the chef : — If you do not know how to cook venison correctly, then please do not offer it as a Sunday roast option. I am far from being an expert, but I am quite sure that the entire table is not meant to shake while trying to cut a piece off. Sadly the meat was so tough that I had to leave most of it, bar the small mouthful I managed to saw off. My eating companion felt so sorry for me that he gave me some of his roast beef, which I hasten to add was cooked perfectly. With that in mind, you’d do well to concentrate all efforts on meats of the non-game variety, not burning your roast potatoes, thicken your gravy and using less egg in you Yorkshire batter. However the apple and cinnamon crumble and the cheese board were both a pleasure and a joy. To you lovely reader : — Although much of this review hasn’t been glowing, I would like you to know that I very much enjoyed this pub and I wouldn’t hesitate to go back. Dave behind the bar was exceptional. Attentive, friendly and made us feel most welcome. Three cheers for Dave!

Went for dinner after boyfriend had a lovely burger there one evening. We were both massively disappointed. Was told by the waitress they do not serve large glasses of wine, only medium, odd. In fact the medium glass was a small measure in a large glass. The pub was cold. Fish and chips only average, chips overcooked, mushy peas horrible and sugary. Boyfriends sausage and mash not cheap, came with no vegetables, very small portion and the gravy tasted of bisto! Chocolate fondant for pudding was very nice. But the long wait for very mediocre food was not worth it. Wetherspoons food for an inflated price, very disappointed. Back to the woolpack at Stoke Mandeville.

A friendly pub located in the old part of the centre of Aylesbury. It has a kind of cramp feeling to it in the way very old traditional pubs do. A small courtyard at the back provides an area for sitting outside but its location means its not the most relaxing place to have a drink.
