In Scotland, we need to make the most of a sunny day. As my dad is currently over from Paris for a few weeks, we thought that we would make the most of the giant shiny thing in the sky and go on a little road trip along with the dog, Bobby(the dog formerly known by the code name Doggy Dog). When we set off on Sunday morning, we weren’t 100% sure where we’d end up as we had no set plans. As my mom was driving, we left it up to her to decide. Ayr Beach it was. Located on the western coastline of Ayrshire in the south-west of Scotland, it has been recognized as one of the best beaches in Scotland. Yes, we have beaches here. Sadly, we rarely have hot sunny days. & to make it even better, it’s a dog friendly beach. Clearly it got a paw of approval from Bobby himself! We walked along the sand all while trying to coax Bobby into the water. He wasn’t very impressed and dug his little paws into the sand at one point. Bobby was running up to people, sniffing seaweed and brainy box even stood on a dead jelly fish at one point. Oops. He had fun though! After a relaxing lunch in the sun, we walked back towards the beach stopping off for ice cream(99 please!) which Bobby stared at like a hawk until I gave him a little bit. All in all a great little afternoon out in the fresh air, giving the dog a chance to run around, finding a new restaurant to enjoy and all within an hour of Glasgow. Perfect.

Ayr beach is probably one of the biggest beaches that l know of, it gets very busy in the summertime. The beach may look clean, but that’s due to the local council having to work overtime with sifters on the back of tractors to root out all the daily junk left by locals & tourists. Beware if you go barefoot as there is a lot of broken glass under the sand, people tend to smash empty buckfast around the pier area. There are plenty of places nearby such as a park with small cafes for something to eat.

Quite pretty and packed with dog walkers, runners and generally decent people, off season anyway. Don’t even think about heading down there in the Summer if it’s even mildly sunny, there is an abundance of sunburnt idiots, boy racers, drunks, junkies, irritating kids, jellyfish, broken bottles, faeces(human or animal? Who knows) litter, seagulls and huffy pensioners. My personal hell but, hey if that’s your scene, go for it. Again though, really lovely if its quiet. Great views of Arran and Greenan, peaceful and great for cycling along.

A lovely expanse of beach on the ayr coastline, me and my familiy spent most days down there on a recent holiday, just having a walk, picnics and a good run around for the kids with the football and kites it was a really lovely place to spend time. One of the nicest beaches we have been to in a while. Would really recomend a visit to anyone visisting the area, really clean and well kept

Beautiful sandy beach. The esplanade is nice to walk along and there’s the beach park too — but the beach itself is the best part. Beautiful views across to Arran and Ailsa Craig(when the weather’s good that is!). There’s the ‘blue flag’ sign up letting you know the water cleanliness so you know if it’s safe to swim in the summer. And the beach is cleaned before 9am every morning — all the litter picked up, etc so it’s a clean, safe beach for families.

It’s a nice enough looking beach, although I am always surprised to hear it is aparently one of the cleanest beaaches! I personally, wouldn’t go for a swim if someone paid me. Nice to walk along and catch the odd sunset. Good for dogs and horses and building sandcastles :)(beware of the jellyfish). Packed in the summer(especially with people from Glasgow), There is a good kids park and a couple wee cafes/shops. Would avoid the shore at nights on a weekend.

Ayr is one of the cleanest beaches in ayrshire. It has a regular following of visitors and tourists. With a scattering of small seaside kiosks with snack, buckets and spades. It has a grassed area known at the Low Green that is used to host various events, circus, car shows, country dancing. etc. Ayr beach is around a two mile walk of sand. There is plenty to do around this beach, and its within walking distance of the town centre. The kids love it. All thats missing is a peir.
