Disappointing and expensive for the lackluster experience. Glad we didn’t spend much time in the room. This advertised hotel-slash-bed-and-breakfast is in a very convenient location, just a minute from the center of town and Bath Abbey. The bar is nice, clean, and pleasant, and the hotel provides any and all pamphlets about local events and activities. The reception at the front desk was hurried and opinionated. While we were given a variety of maps and pamphlets, the customer service was lackluster and rather unpleasant, not helped by the fact that the hotel did not provide access to a computer or telephone so that we could just book the tours and tickets ourselves. Rooms were spacious, but sparsely furnished. For a room with three beds, including one double, one chair and one unbalanced barstool is not enough. Not to mention that the walls were completely empty in what could have been a charming room layout. Additionally, the location and fact that our window was off its cord and would not close, made the sounds of the seagulls and people in the streets much too loud for restful sleep. Breakfast was a cursory display of hardboiled eggs, toast, cereal, and packaged muffins, which was satisfactory, and unhurried. Overall, the experience was set up like that of a large hotel(without the benefits), in the building of a bed and breakfast(without the warmth and comfort).

Oh boy, I have been dreading writing this review. The good: a quick 6 minute walk from the train station and a central location. The bartender was super friendly. The bar is very quiet and I ended up befriending him. The ridiculous: you are assigned tables for breakfast! Is it possible they do not trust you to choose your own seating? Why do they not allow you to sit where ever you so desire? I was stunned I was told to sit at the table that had my room number! The breakfast room was empty, except for another couple, and I wanted to sit by the window. I am a solo traveler and a window seating allows me a simple luxury to daydream in this gorgeous city. I quickly told the server I preferred sitting by the window, and to my surprise, she took my table number, which had been placed on a small table by the hallway, right in the centre of people flow, and put it on another table by the window(not the one where I was standing). This is a strange and ridiculous custom and I hope they drop it like a hot potato. The bad: breakfast options are very limited: corn flakes, plain yogurt, hard boiled egg, cottage cheese, toast. It’s a good thing I love corn flakes, but given a choice, I would have had a warm, home made meal. Wi-fi was not working in my room. No air conditioning — terrible on a hot, muggy night. The worst: shared bathrooms — ugh! No opportunity to take a bath. For the price I paid, I was expecting better and instead, I was ripped off.

I partially agree with the other review of this hotel. Strangely enought it seems to advertise itself as more a B & B than an out and out hotel. Rooms are available in a range of prices starting from the budget £49, to a single/double occupancy £69, four poster/superior at £105 and many more in between. Although there is a set tariff list of room sizes to suit the pocket it should be noted that the prices maybe less in quieter low occupancy periods. For example, booked a four poster room for one(Friday) night, the price should have been £105 but as all 5 four poster rooms were unoccupied thee price dropped to £90. The moral of this is the owners would rather see a room at a discounted rate rather than leave it go empty, had I booked at a busy time no doubt I would have paid the full asking price for the room. In short, there is a bargain to be had here wether you are looking at a discounted rate, budget room with shared facilities or buying on a comparison website. Another plus is can book a Friday or Saturday only, some hotels in Bath require or apply a two night stay minimum for the weekends. The four poster room I had was immaculate, v. clean and the bed v.comfortable. Ensuite bathroom was tidy too. Only down points are there are no telephones in any of the room or phone points, if you wish to make a call you would have to use a payphone in reception or use your own mobile. No satellite TV or Wi-Fi either. Plus the continental breakfast is a little bit of a rip off considering other hotels serve cooked breakfasts as standard, ironically the menu in the room shows they do a cooked breakfast for £6 which you can only buy it as a regular meal between 12pm and 6pm. Why not serve it in the morning as part of the price for accommodation ? There is also Lambretta style MOD bar in the hotel too. Service at the hotel was very good, receptionist even gave me a list of restaurants and a map. As a whole it is a case of buyer beware you may get a bargain on the room but if you are having sub-standard breakfast and lack of certain facilities, is it really worth it when there are better alternates out there?

I booked this hotel via Late Rooms, so got a great last-minute deal(single room/1 night for £49). The room was clean and relatively quiet, I had everything I needed, the(shared) showers were clean and well looked-after. The chap on reception was friendly and helpful and the general feel of the place was pretty good. So, getting some sleep-wise, I’d give it a 4 — functional and tidy. Good value for money. The problems start when your well-rested coeliac gets up. ‘Continental Breakfast’ can mean almost anything, and in this case it means toast, toast and more toast. More than a little frustrating if you’re basically allergic to toast. Points off for no breakfast. More points off for describing this breakfast as ‘free’ when it is, in fact, just included in the price of the room and actually represents very poor value. The hotel bar is a big shouty mess of Ben Sherman boys. Not the most relaxing place to head for a nightcap, but fortunately there are several good pubs nearby. I’d stay here again if I had to(and I’d take my own brekkie or plan to head out to The Boston Tea Party), but I’d look elsewhere first.
