You go in looking a normal sandwich and come out with a big ass sandwich!!! They are all about huge big feeds and you won’t be disappointed. I never am anytime I call in. Service is friendly and fast which is what your looking for if it’s your lunch break and your in a hurry.

I have stopped in here for lunch a few times over the past couple of months. Mostly when my colleagues go to a coffee shop and pay about 10 quid for a piece of bread which seems crazy to me… But I digress, back to Doorsteps… On the occasions that I have called in here, I have left happy. The service is quick and friendly plus there is a decent selection of hot and cold food. I generally go for a simple sandwich but the hot food looks good and I plan to try something from that menu next time. It’s a bit of a walk from my work so the seating area(while not too big) definitely comes in handy and I will be going back again.

The worst sandwich place ever! First of all, the kitchen is so filthy, it is disgusting. The floor, the walls… And we waited 20 minutes to get two bad sandwiches and awful chips(soggy, undercooked…). We will never eat at this place again!

Since my last review Doorsteps has had a makeover it has gone through a ‘red’ rebrand. It almost looks like a completely different business. I popped in yesterday for a coffee just to see if anything had changed inside but sadly it hadn’t. It still has plenty of seating and good selection of sandwiches and salads. The food in Doorsteps isn’t going to blow you away and it faces stiff competition from the rapidly increasing number of lunchtime alternatives popping up in Belfast City Centre. The service is still as good as ever, I was greeted with a beaming smile from the young female attendant who seemed to be running the place single handedly, although it was after the lunchtime rush. I noticed a few people in Doorsteps sitting quietly reading the newspaper and perhaps this sums up Doorsteps — nothing flashy, just somewhere to go and get an honest lunch and relax on your break without all the hustle, bustle and quirkiness.

If you go in here expecting the epic standards of their Lisburn Road branch you will be disappointed, but if you just need a good hearty sandwich for lunch at your desk, Doorsteps will do the trick. At peak times you will find a queue, but it moves pretty fast. The bread is fresh, the salads crispy and they have a surprisingly large selection of fillings despite their restricted size. A sandwich is never going to rock your world unless you are Joey from Friends, but these guys will keep you full until dinner at a reasonable price.

I absolutely love Doorsteps, which is a shame in this case as this branch really lets the side down a bit. The branch on the Lisburn road makes the most truly epic sandwiches known to man, whereas here they miss the mark a Little! Maybe the other place has spoilt us but there’s no reason this place can’t be just as good! They still have the big selection and some hot foods such as soup or stew but the place lacks a certain kind of atmosphere which just oozes from the other place, mainly I think due to the staff! I’ve had bread, that, on more than one occasion has been a bit stale which is unheard of in the other place. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had good food here too, but the errors here put me off slightly as I like consistency and hate going into a place wondering if my meal is going to be good!

Good fresh big tasty sandwiches! I’ve know Doorsteps from a few years ago from my work where we used to get them to deliver a couple of times a month as a special treat. We all felt they ruled because they were on really delicious bread, the fillings were generous(no poking around trying to find the meat) and they had a big selection of fillings. Not having had one for a few years I was delighted to see the«Doorsteps» logo over this corner shop located across from the Victoria Centre. For old times sakes it would have been rude not to pass so I ventured in to see if they still had ‘the old magic’. It was good to see the huge selection of sandwiches hand written up on the board so I went for my old favourite chicken tikka with lettuce and a bit of tomato. Unfortunately, unlike the good old days the bread was a tad stale, but the portion was thankfully more than adequate and the price was good. I opted to walk and eat as they were just about to close but the nice lady behind the counter said there was no rush if we wanted to sit in and take our time Pros: Pretty good Cons: The seat area is a bit basic.

Isn’t it weird how two branches of the same sandwich shop can be so different? The Doorsteps on the Lisburn Road is known all over the city for making some of the best sandwiches EVER, but this one in the city centre just doesn’t cut it I’m afraid. I actually feel really bad giving these guys a bad review because the last time I was there, the food was barely touched, but someone came over and asked explicitly if something was wrong with it. When we replied no(as you do instictively), she then asked if we were sure because she would rather know the truth so they would be able to improve the service. Being in too deep at that point, we shook our heads once more, mumbled something about just being too full and waited for her to go away. This suggests to me that they are aware that something is missing from this branch. For me, the sandwich just wasn’t right. The bread wasn’t the freshest, the chicken was very processed and there was an obscene amount of mayo on there. In retrospect, I really should have been honest, but we’re too polite in Northern Ireland for our own good sometimes!

One of many Doorsteps sandwich bars open across the country. This one has been here for quite some time. It really does make some awesome sandwiches. But anytime I go to this Doorsteps I pray for their stew. It’s one of the nicest stews I think I’ve ever had. To sit and enjoy a bowl whilst sitting at the window seats, looking out at the shoppers on a, more than often wet, windy Belfast street is quite comforting. The prices can be a bit insane for sandwiches and quite a few times they are ‘out’ of the ingredients for their huge selection of sandwiches. The staff are polite and friendly, although it is a small shop and they are ok with hollering at each other over your head, which can get a little irritating.

I was under the impression that this place was very very good and it would replace my obsession with Subway and occassionally Starbucks once and for all. And it turned out to be the complete opposite. Instead of making me want to come back, it made me want to run away and hide, then secretly sneek onto Unilocal and complain about it. I was aware of the Lisburn Road branch and having been in there once, I thought«hmm theres one in town so I might try that»… I did and the comparison is non-existant! The staff in town could not give a twinkle if I got the nicest sandwich in the world or if I opened my sandwich and a Men In Black style alien jumped out and we had to fight to the death right outside the shop. It’s dreadful. The one on the Lisburn Road is much better. This one is a joke

This place really isn’t as good as its sister shop up on the Lisburn Road which I think is maybe the best sandwich place in the entire of Belfast. Its so good that my girlfriend, who lives in Dublin, makes me take her there everytime she is up in Belfast. This shop, howevere, just doesn’t cut it. Maybe I’m just so used to the excellent service and food at the other store but this place seems like a poorly ran, staffed and appointed shop with no real heart, soul or effort put in. The portions aren’t as big as the ones you get up on the Lisburn Road and the staff are nowhere near as helpful or friendly. This store is right in the middle of town and I would honestly consider heading up to the Lisburn Road shop instead of going here.

Doorsteps is a chain of gourmet sandwich shops open across Northern Ireland. It’s said the food is so good that local model and actor Jamie Dornan(ex bf of actress Keira Knightley) named his record label after it(true story). And it’s true-the food is good. But standards have slipped and I am not happy. I have a confession to make: I am a Doorsteps fanatic. Their staff in the Ann St outlet used to joke that they needed to start paying me for all the free advertising I was giving them because every time I turned up I had a crowd of about 10 or 12 people with me. I was your typical customer evangelist: Doorsteps has the nickname«God’s Sandwich Shop» thanks to me. And it deserved it. The food was cheap and gorgeous and the staff were lovely. It was a huge treat to be able to go down and get a near 12 inch bacon, lettuce and tomato baguette with creamy mayo and onions plus Cocoa Cola for £3-a deal which would have cost £6 or £7 quid in any other sandwich shop around the City Centre. I went to D-Steps for the first time in a few months last week, having been based out of the City Centre for a while with work. New staff, new management. On the 3rd day of visiting, after 5 years of being a loyal customer, I vowed never to return. Firstly, my beloved BLT with creamy mayo and onions and coke now costs me a whopping £4.50. I’d been charged the normal price I was used to up until the 3rd day when a very aggressive member of staff informed me that I’d been«mischarged» previously. After 5 years, I don’t think so. So ordering two sandwiches(one for a colleague and one for myself) plus cokes cost me £9. WTF? What I really couldn’t abide was the nastiness and aggression of staff towards customers while a manager stood by and watched. And I mean, I have never seen a staff member be so nasty to a customer. Whatever happened to customer service? By the time I left, I was so stressed out and angry that I vowed never to return again. I was so infuriated that I considered phoning the store and making a complaint, but having saw how the manager let staff away with treating customers, I decided it wouldn’t be worth the bother. I really, really hope someone from the«top» management in Doorsteps is reading this as i really want my favourite sandwich shop back. Doorsteps in Ann St used to have the most amazing manager, Tricia, who everyone just loved and got along with; since she’s left for a job managing a shopping centre chainstore, so have all the previous staff who were amazing too. Note to the owner of Doorsteps: offer her a pay rise and bring her back. Your business is failing without her.

Oooh, you just can’t beat a Doorsteps! Amazing sandwiches and don’t forget they do salads too — huge big bowls and a great selection of food means you can go all out with coleslaw and pasta salads, or stick to veg and have a really healthy and filling lunch.
