I visited The Chippie in Stranmillis for lunch today. It’s a traditional takeaway chip shop with a few tables and chairs at the back if you wish to sit in. The place itself is a bit nondescript — much like any other chippy. Staff were pleasant and I placed my order of a taco cheese chip at the counter, took a table and my food was brought to me when it was ready. Unfortunately the chips were a bit too greasy for my taste — literally soggy and oily. Even with taco sauce and cheddar cheese it all lacked flavour. I asked on my way out what oil they cooked with and was told it was beef dripping — ugh — no wonder it was a grease fest! I just don’t get why people like beef dripping as I think chips cooked in soya or vegetable oils taste so much better and tend to be less greasy. Some people may like The Chippie, unfortunately I was underwhelmed…
