There’s little I can add to previous reviews except if your in titanic quarter visit this place and experience this very unusual café with its random mix of furniture and decorations, its quirky feel and local heritage and its peaceful relaxing space, a seat by the windows if you can get one too. The«arc» in Belfast has a bit more life in it because of the dock café.

The Dock Café is a saint! I wouldn’t be surprised if it had a Halo hovering above it as it is quite simply one of the nicest, most charming little places this side of the Lagan. The reason for this saintliness is because The Dock Café is an ‘Honesty’ café. What does this mean, I hear you ask? Well, the concept is quite simple; you can choose a coffee, tea or tasty treat, have a wee look round at all the local art and Titanic memorabilia and then make a donation in the Honesty Box at the end of the counter. The amount is totally up to you! I initially thought that there would be people really taking advantage of this generosity but there wasn’t! The Dock seems to harbor a relaxed atmosphere, there’s almost a peaceful vibe to the place. One set of local students were playing board games while on the table right next to them there was a business meeting taking place. How The Dock Café isn’t packed to the rafters every day of the week is beyond me. I would have suspected that this would be the perfect place for a wind down after Visiting The Titanic Museum! There’s an onsite prayer room and this eludes to the fact that the Café has a Christian origin and community management feel — Every member of staff is a volunteer although you would think they were all top earners by the way they behave. Every one of them that I came in to contact with exuded warmth.

It’s a bit of a strange area this, down towards the Titanic Museum and behind the Odyssey. It has undergone a lot of development in recent years with lots of flats and students yet it is still quiet. After a pretty nippy cycle along the river we popped in here for a warmer, and were pleasantly surprised. I’ve never been in an honesty café before, so assumed it would be filled with people taking advantage. Wrong! I think people were actually paying more than they might have normally because the place has such a nice feel about it. They have a reasonable selection of coffees and teas and buns(a vital part) and while they don’t have much food on offer, what they do have is nice. Good concept which they don’t ram down your throat, but don’t forget to pay!
