I’ve been to this place few years ago but haven’t been back since in a long time. From what I remembered its ok. There are obviously way much better buffet resturants in Birmingham and whilst you will pay a little more you will get crispy duck, shredded beef and proper sushi to name but a few, Its cheap and chearful if you looking to eat out on a budget price.

I came here to eat with some friends the other day and was very disappointed — I used to love this restaurant before it changed around and the food used to taste so good, I didn’t know that the restaurant had changed until I got there and I thought maybe it would have improved — but no. It’s just got worse. The food tasted awful and cheap and I found that the attitude of the staff was appalling, one of the staff members(looked like manager not sure?) was extremely rude to my friends– they were asked to move so they were about to but she got really angry and her voice was even starting to change from a normal talking volume to a sharp yelling tone. She still looked angry and was quite rude when we went to pay after. I wasn’t really happy paying the £7 or however much it was as I didn’t feel it was good value for money as I didn’t enjoy the food at all. Also it is so busy that you can hardly move around. Awful.

Fabulous food. Try to arrive at opening time as the food is that fresh it’s amazing to see. Maximum price for this buffet style service is £6.95 for all you can eat. Believe me, you want go home hungry.

I went here last weekend. If I’m honest me and my boyfriend were heading to Ming Moon but it was absolutely rammed. With an insatiable urge for a chinese buffet we ventured into China Town and queue Big Wok. It’s hidden down a side street and when we walked in I almost walked straight out. It’s decorated not unlike an old working men’s club. Red chairs and canteen tables. However I’m glad we stayed. It is what it says on the tin and the food is as you’d except for a chinese buffet. But actually there was quite a lot of choice. The food was good, nothing was cold and you could see the food was being refreshed. There was the usual rice and black bean, plus sushi station, fresh grilled chicken, soups, sauces and salad. Dessert is fruit, cakes and ice cream. All went down a real treat. It’s pretty decently priced although keep your receipt as they wont let you leave without evidence of purchase. Overall it’s not one for the special occasion but for a good buffet I’d definitely visit again.

Great value asian buffet when I was a student. I remember coming here with a bunch of friends and eating tons of food. Their peking duck was good.

I find that Birmingham’s China town’s Big Wok was a very respectable and popular place for authentic dining location for both families and casual friendly meetings. However, I think the service has gone down hill since presentable and modern Ming Moon was established around the corner not too long ago. Big Wok’s restaurant is very spacious with an open view of their upstairs balcony seating area. Nonetheless, this restaurant venue is always jam packed with customers and could take up to fifteen minutes to wait for a table in which if this does happen, there is no waiting room and you’re expected to stand and wait in their entrance. I find that they could change this aspect of their service and would recommend Big Wok to anyone looking for a cheap dining location. However, if you’re looking for more of a modern and classier buffet to dine at I would recommend visiting Ming Moon which is around the corner.

If your high and youve just been discharged from the can and your missing that ‘prison dinner room’ scene then this is your 1st spot! All you can eat crap. I know a dude who comes here regularly cause its cheap, then throws up 30 seconds after leaving cause the food makes him barf!(dont ask why he does it, he is odd) but if the food makes anyone puke(every time) that should tell you something

You can’t beat this Chinese restaurant for value for money. Last time I went was in the day. Buffet style as much as you like to eat for about a fiver. And the food is pretty spot on too. Don’t know how they do it for the money. The only con is when you’re leaving you get the impression you’re locked in until you show your receipt. God knows what would happen if you lost it Tomo :)

MMMM hard one this at £5.99 stuff as much food down your obese throat as you like you can hardly knock it can you? The last time i went i had 15 portions of cake the lemon gateu is very nice and god know how many plates of various oriental cuisine not too mention about 5 icecreams . The food varies in quality not all dishes are all that, the toilets are dark and dingy, and the staff are almost paranoid on anyone leaving, so much that popping out for a cigarette or too throw up any excess food requires various security checks and too leave at the end requires one to produce a valid receipt of payment … indeed for a laugh its worth leaving a member of your party behind when they go to the loo and then watch from outside as they get put through the mill trying to get out without a receipt(very funny) bit like a scene from Tenko lol So yes i recommend this place as a good place to get very fat and full for very little money you really can eat as much as you like literally till your stomach explodes, the big wok is a five star must for the hungry on a budget . However be warned going to the toilet after eating huge amounts of chop suey egg fried rice and pork ball with sweet and sour sauce can be somewhat alarming you have been warned

Buffet quality food, it’s pretty standard but for the price, it’s all you can eat and so it fills the tummy :) Do try the steamed chicken with ginger oil. The icing on the cake is of course, the whipped ice cream, mix it with the red bean soup, tops the meal off perfectly. And yes, you’ll be very stuffed on the way out.

Although it’s more akin to a school kitchen than traditional oriental, for what you pay you’re unlikely to find better value noodles, stir fry and spring rolls in town. With an all you can eat buffet that includes main staple Chinese favourites, as well as a selection of sushi dishes(including several vegetarian options), there’s no way you can walk away from The Big Wok feeling unfulfilled. There’s also freshly-prepared Japanese teppanyaki available, which I’m told by those who’ve dined with me is very good. In case you aren’t full to bursting from the main buffet, there are also a number of dessert options on offer, including the ubiquitous chocolate fondue fountain. It’s far from fine dining, but if you’re in the mood for some solid buffet food, The Big Wok is hard to fault.

I was a big fan of this place whilst at uni. It’s open later than other local Chinese buffets which is really helpful. It’s quite hidden away but the food has been consistently good over a number of years and there’s a fantastic selection of dishes. For the amount of food you could potentially put away, I think it’s fantastic value for money. Particularly good for large groups, if you want to just pile in, gorge yourselves and then leave this is the place to go!

This place is in the Chinese Quarter. I’ve only been once and it was very busy and had to queue, though not for long as the place is huge. I wasn’t impressed as it is fast food for students really. Not real/authentic Chinese food but the price for all you can eat sort of does give it away. Better value places such as Café Soya or some other small eateries in the Arcadian Centre. However, if you do like to eat different things and try new things it’s not a bad place to start. As it is so busy you can be at least sure that the food hasn’t been sitting around for ages.

The legendary Big Wok is cheap and cheerful, although it can seem like a school canteen! The help-yourself buffet is excellent value for money and has a great selection of 60+ dishes. Here it’s all about quantity rather than quality — the food’s mass-produced as you’d expect. It’s not suitable for a romantic meal but is ideal if you just want an MSG overload and to stuff yourself silly!

The food is always tasty and the selection on offer is quite impressive. The atmosphere is somewhat depressing. the chinese-style happy Birthday messages every 5 mins is initially amusing then quickly annoying. I’m convinced they play dance music to make people eat fasterthe turnaround of people makes the whole place feel like a conveyor belt! Still, for some good Chinese food in a hurry at a cheapish price, you cant go wrong.
