Myself and Andrew G. had a voucher for here — we’d never been and it was his birthday so we thought we’d give it a try. Firstly it was mid-week and early, about 7pm so there was hardly anyone else in the bar and only one other group who were eating. the décor is nice and the staff were friendly and helpful when i said that we had a voucher. At first all started well, the voucher was for two courses and a cocktail and as i was driving i wanted a non-alcoholic cocktail but there werent any on the menu however the bar staff said that wouldnt be a problem — they asked me what flavours i liked and made me a cocktail — it was really yummy. Our starters arrived after a wait of about 25 minutes and we enjoyed them — i had chorizo, ed onion and pepper skewers and Andy had deep fried salmon bites with tartare sauce. Very nice. However everything then took a turn for the worse. The main course took almost an hour to come out — we both had burgers which were described as c oming with fries(we chose sweet potato fries), homemade coleslaw and lashings of fried onions. We also ordered a side of onion rings. When the burgers finally arrived(at which point we were very tetchy as the bar was still incredibly quiet so they were hardly rushed) the sweet potato fries were ordinary potato, indeed the fries were actually oven chips. Oven chips! The ‘lashings of fried onions’ were paltry and there was no sign of the homemade coleslaw. There was also no sign of the side order of onion rings — described on the menu as ‘large beer battered onion rings’. We asked the waitress/bar staff whereabouts the onion rings were and she said they would be a minute. About 10 minutes later we were told that she had accidentally dropped them on the floor so some were being cooked fresh. When they finally arrived, after we had finished our burgers(which were, at least homemade but had no seasoning in them whatsoever), the ‘large beer battered onion rings’ were a slimy pile of onion rings in no batter but had obviously been cooked in sugar or something to try and caramalise them so they all stuck together in a big gloopy mess. Now i LOVE onion rings and am more than happy to even eat mediocre ones but even i couldnt stomach these. I will never, ever go to this place again and, bearing in mind that there are some awesome eating establishments in Moseley i would recommend thaqt others give this place a wide berth.

New décor, it’s had a major revamp. Looks great. Nice burgers. I looks like they have a new healthy menu.

We waited in an empty bar at a prime time in the evening at the cut price décor and cheap renovation. When I finally got served my wine was terribly corked. The staff were pleasant, but the trouble came with the food.order. The food was cold and the quality was dreadful. I can’t imagine any Spanish cook calling this Tapas. I complained to a very arrogant Manager called Barrington, that simply looked over my shoulder rather than listen to my concerns. The food was sent back and had clearly been microwaved. My wife had the fish option and had to have a day off work as a result of food poisoning. I am unaware of the food hygiene score that received, but I know bad quality Spanish tapas because I have traveled the Balearic Islands and Madrid. I would rather go to McDonals than eat in this Mickey Mouse establishment again.

With it’s bare brickwork, tiled and wooden floors, Tiffany style lampshades and some Motown tunes spinning, this newly re-furbished bar is welcoming enough. As are the staff, who greet me with a smile. After sitting here for a few minutes wondering why they aren’t attracting crowds from the Farmer’s Market, a couple and a family filter in. This is clearly their desired daytime weekend demographic: people seeking a bite to eat. The lunchtime menu offers a burger and soft drink for £6, which is reasonable enough. The beer is bloody pricey though. Charging £4.35 for a pint of Estrella, they maybe aren’t going to stay in the competition beyond their opening honeymoon period, given the choice of bars and pubs nearby, all who have their own very strong unique selling point.
