This bar/restaurant is situated in the financial district of Birmingham, just off Colmore Row. Really it is geared up toward the Friday night after work crowd — good for work do events, drinking, food and DJ. However I popped in one weekend day lunchtime to try their new food menu. I had the rare beef salad and my friend had the chicken salad and we both found them delicious! They were £11 –not cheap, but then salads never seem to ever be! I would pay for that again:) Service was attentive — but then we were the only two out of four people in there! Décor is comfortable but quite dark in colours and lighting; so as I said more of an evening place, but nice to go there every now and again for a change:)

This venue is best known for its hosted party ‘IF… U want it’ which takes place on a Saturday night /Sunday morning which is a firm favourite for the cities more discerning socialities and defintitely worth checking out. However, Bushwackers also offers a great destination for those wanting to enjoy food or drinks during the day or evening time. Set in a city centre location, when you first walk into the venue you will go down the stairs and through the doors to which you will find a long bar, several tabled seating areas and a dance floor towards the back of the main room. Keep walking round to the left and you’ll find a private VIP area which is opposite the venues main attraction, the outside terrace! You will often find a crowd of business professionals enjoying after work drinks and food here as there are regular offers such as 2 meals for £10 available. There are also seating options outside the front of the bar which means you can catch some evening sun!

Back in the day when House Music and Techno were the sounds we danced to and Drum N Bass was new and cutting edge a little after club existed called The West End Bar. Its doors opened at 6am and everyone was thrown out at 2pm. After clubs are for people that don’t want to go home after a nightclub and want to keep on partying. The West End Bar was a dirty dive of a place, full of very undesirable types and worn out paranoid clubbers that had been up all night. The walls were filthy and the seats were made in the 1950’s in some strange brown faux leather alcove style. The music policy was strictly underground House and Garage, nothing else. Alcoholic drinks were served at 10am so everyone had to wait for five hours for a drink. I often wondered how they managed to stay awake for so long. Most people that went to The West End bar left when it closed at 2pm and it was never a pretty sight. The West End bar was closed by the police in 2000 and nowhere has really taken its place. Bushwackers is open from 1am to 7am and is one of the closest things you can get to an after party venue. They play a more contemporary variant of the House we used to listen to and I personally do not like it. The entrance is very opulent and they have a very strict policy on the door. The time I went I was behind a group of lads that were turned away because the bouncers said they didn’t want too many ‘Indians’ in the club. I remember one of the chaps saying they were born in the UK. I thought it was racist and an utter disgrace, but bouncers have never really been known for their intellect. I stayed around for a bit and danced for a while. The décor inside is spotless and they have a very nice outdoor patio area. Bushwackers didn’t have the same grimey feel that The West End bar had, and when I’m up at 6am with no sleep I like to feel grimey. The other patrons in Bushwackers were well dressed and unapproachable. Everyone there seemed obsessed by this one man at the club. His name was being dropped constantly, especially in the toilets. I never saw or met him; all I know is that he goes by the name of Charlie.

Bushwackers is often known for its late, late night opening times, usually staying open till 7Am on a Saturday evening, being renowned for its after-party. The bar/club is also a worth a visit in the daytime, offering an array of food that is all reasonably priced. Considered to be a slightly more mature environment or even a more grown up ‘club scene’, Bushwackers attracts the older generation both in the day and at night. I am yet to man up and stay out until 7Am, but all I have heard is good things from a mix of people who describe the experience as something different whilst thoroughly enjoyable. Throughout the day Bushwackers is home to all kind of inhabitants thanks to its affordable food and relaxed environment. During the night, Bushwackers becomes a fair more mature scene, with raised prices and a slightly different feel to the place. Overall, Bushwackers is a fairly cool hangout for the day but attracts a different, more mature and potentially ‘richer’ clientele during the evening. I’ll leave it up to you to decide which time to visit.

Ive always loved this place either as a place to go for a quiet drink during the day and a nice meal but more for the after party vibes. This used to be a regular club to go to after most people were going home at 3am me and my friends would come here. Honestly our first few visits were always akward at the door but once they got familiar with us and knew we were not the kind to cause trouble they were welcoming. The reason why this place is great is because it was one of the original after clubs, it has kept true to its customers and the music has always been superb. The crowd does not wear boat shoes or button up their shirt to the top for no reason. Infact it is the crowd that makes this place so fun to party with until 6am! Its a fantastic mix of europeans and locals and when the music gets pumping everyone gets jumping.

Bushwackers is a curious hybrid. It’s a restaurant and bar that metamorphoses into an all-night club after hours. I’d been there prior to witnessing one of the enormous queues that tends to form outside late on a weekend evening, and assumed that it had closed and re-opened as a completely different venue. While in the area one afternoon recently, I was passing Bushwackers again and noticed they were open for lunch. Remembering fondly my previous dining experiences there, I decided to drop in. The interior is quite slick and stylish with a huge, well-stocked bar. They have a huge selection of light snacks and full meals, and offer a lunchtime deal where you get free drinks when spending over a certain amount. The service was prompt and the food was both plentiful and delicious. I ordered no more than usual, but the portion sizes had me wishing I’d picked something smaller. I was in no hurry, though, and polished off my meal at a leisurely pace, enjoying the comfort and atmosphere of the bar itself. Not cheap, but definitely worth a visit.

Bushwackers is a club that is located away from the more mainstream places in Birmingham. It is open from 1am to 7am and they are quite strict about the dress code so make sure that you are dressed appropriately. Also, the age limit is 21 and entry is £10. Once inside, the atmosphere is relaxed and sophisticated and the music is house/electro. There are a few different areas in Bushwackers that play different types of music, including the outside area. The dancefloor can get quite crowded but it’s a different sort of people from the other Birmingham crowds and so it doesn’t feel unsafe or rowdy. The crowd there ranges from young professionals, to a slightly older upmarket crowd. Bushwackers is definitely a club to go to if you’re after a different sort of night out that you won’t forget for a while.
