I can only give a partial review as I’ve ever been in here for a few drinks. I like that this places feels a bit hidden away. It feels smaller than what it actually is due to the central bar. As a bar in the Colmore Business District the prices are the same as every other bar but it does feel more comfortable and relaxed and makes a nice compromise from the other bars.

Whilst being part of the lovely Hotel Du Vin, the pub has a separate entrance. It is a cosy, softly lit environment with lots of seating. The bar is in the middle and takes up a lot of the space. A good selection of gins! I wasn’t overly impressed with my burger. It was very dry. They had run out of beef burgers so perhaps they are better. I’d definitely give it another go. The night I was there was for a Cocktail Exchange gin event. The staff from the hotel were hands on with this, making some excellent drinks. I just can’t give it 4 stars because my burger was dry! Hopefully a blip due to a busy evening.

I’d been to Pub Du Vin before for a look around and I was here for a Gin In June event organised by Hotel Du Vin and CocktailxChange. The actual entrance is on Edmund Street although it’s part of the main building on Church Street. The event actually kicked off at 6pm but as usual I was crazy early, I got a lemonade to make sure I didn’t get too smashed on the 4 gin cocktails.(I’m a lightweight these days!) The Bar area is right in the middle of the pub with different seating areas set around it. It’s pretty intimate and probably can get quite crowded I’ll be back for afternoon beers!

I used to come to this ‘pub’ underneath Hotel Du Vin quite frequently until their beer prices drastically increased, so we ventured else where. I have been back since for a rum tasting, but had never considered eating here until Vicky O. mentioned it this week. We walked in at 12.30 and although there were other people seated, we had no problem finding a table. Our upbeat waiter came over promptly and served us quickly. Monday –Friday they do 2 burgers for £15 and although there wasnt a big choice we had quite a time trying to decide which to choose! My bacon and cheese burger on brioche bun with fries was delicious. I definitely think with that offer on it is worth going. The ambianace is smart casual, so best for a work lunch or just wanting to get away from the corwds.

The basement bar of the Hotel du Vin had a lot to live up to after I accidentally tried to look for it in by going into the hotel, which was superbly decorated. After a quick phone call, I was redirected outside and round the corner. Once inside the Pub, which was vastly overcrowded and incredibly loud, it did take a long time to be served. I understand that it was busy, but only to have two wait staff on when there is an obvious queue should be a sign to hire more. The selection on offer was good but there was no price list, which, if you’re ordering top shelf drinks, is needed. As you can expect, the prices are expensive and I ended up turning a drink down because of iit. I didn’t stay here for long and I’m glad I went when I did. Out of all the ‘pubs’ in Birmingham, there are much better ones that are much more reasonably priced.

As you would expect from the bar in Hotel Du Vin, the hotel’s opulent and classy reception lead to an equally opulent and classy bar. It’s warm and comfortable, but I would recommend wearing something nice if you are planning a visit as it’s easy to feel«underdressed». There is a mixture of sofa’s, tables and seats around the bar; so it’s a good place for a small group or for a couple of people. It’s always lovely and warm, so is a nice place to visit in the Winter for a treat. I have only tried the food at an event, but it was fresh, warm and delicious. We had mini fish and chips in little newspaper boats(So cute), beef skewers and a selection of things served in a light, crispy tempura batter. The staff have been friendly and attentive both at the bar and at events. The reason this is a four star venue is the price. I’m no stranger to the idea that«Class Costs,» but it’s quite off putting to pay such an inflated price for cocktails. Having said that, the Espresso Martini is like nothing else. It tastes amazing and is served with roasted coffee beans sitting on the cream on top. Bliss. I would say this is a good place for a meaningful celebration, but not a place to spend a whole night.

A roomy low– lit cellar bar with a separate entrance to Hotel du Vin, meaning it feels like a pub in its own right rather than a hotel bar. It has a nice ambience, but food and drinks are expensive. The menu is mostly the kind you’d expect from a pub– burgers, steaks and sandwiches feature. It’s not cheap though and I’d rather eat at dinner than lunch to justify the price. It’s not a place to visit regularly.

Despite its association with Hotel Du Vin, one of the best hotels in the Birmingham area, Pub Du Vin fails to live up to the same expectations. Obviously, the hotel is an extremely hard act to follow. In my opinion, hotels are able to charge a set amount, after all, you are paying for a variety of services which compared to that of a pub are relatively important. In comparison, when a pub charges large amounts for what, at the end of the day, is food and drink, it tends to not appeal to me. Obviously part of the same company, the excessive prices stay true with the pint i ordered costing me £3.80, extremely disappointing. Granted, I’ve paid more, It failed to cheer me up. Despite this, the décor inside impressed me, with the low-lit ambiance promoting a relaxed atmosphere that was welcomed after my expensive purchase. After having the one drink, I left having a brief look at the menu but refused to even entertain the notion of paying a fiver for a sandwich, maybe another time. Overall, my student mentality probably puts me at a disadvantage here but Pub Du Vin just wasn’t my cup of tea. I’m sure for those of a more mature disposition, Pub Du Vin could be extremely entertaining, maybe when I say more mature I mean, those with more finances available!

Pub Du Vin is the cellar bar of Birmingham’s decadent Hotel Du Vin, located on Church Street. Having been to the upstairs wine bar before, I thought I would check out the pub and use it as a base for an hour to write a few reviews. We entered through a side door on Edmund Street, which had tables outside and looked pretty welcoming. On entering we were greeted politely but it was not apparent where to stand at the bar and we kind of stood around awkwardly for a minute or so. The door we had entered through was actually a fire escape at the back of the bar but because it looked like a main entrance with the tables outside you would expect the bar to be facing you as you walk in. I looked at the bar tarrif and decided that I wanted half a pint of Hogan’s cider; reasonable at £2. I quickly noticed that there was no cider on draught and enquired about the price of the bottled Hogan’s and Bulmers which I could see in the fridge. The lady at the bar didn’t know the prices off the top of her head and had to scan through a list on the computer. On finding that the bottled Hogan’s was £6, I decided that I’d settle for a Diet Coke instead but she continued to scroll through the list for the other prices. What a nightmare she must have when it’s actually busy! They only had 2 beers on tap as well, which were priced just over average at £3.30 and £3.80 per pint. We didn’t opt for food but the bar menu was pretty good with mains available as well as sandwiches and snacks such as scotch eggs and sausage rolls. All food was moderately priced(sandwiches are about £5 — £6 and come with a salad garnish but no chips) but I imagine it is pretty good. The ambience of the pub is similar to that of the bar and hotel upstairs. Décor is rustic Mediterranean with comfy leather chairs, low lighting and chilled house music playing in the background. It’s nice, but would be nicer if they had a full bar with reasonably priced bottles.

Pub Du Vin is attached to the Hotel and Bistro Du Vin. Thing is, hotel bars are a strange one I think; I can’t shake the feeling if I’m not staying at the hotel I’m sort of trespassing in the bar but I didn’t feel that at all here. Upon entering I was greeted by some pastry on the bar. I wonder, is this free? Is this a new wave bakery bar I misses the memo for? Well the bar was behind the food; but what a clever way of making me hungry. Very clever. The bar had a few ales on top and a host of over priced bottles in the coolers but the day I pay 6 pound for a cider is the day I’ve obviously made my mom proud and robbed a bank, but until that day I can’t drop coin like that. The bar lady nice but slow and listed the price of all the ciders off her computer even when I didn’t want one(over and over again) but being ignored is fine. After I had the price of all the ciders drilled into me the next step was to check the menu, a nice range of grills and stakes, on the pricey side but judging by the quality of the Bistro upstairs I’m sure it’d be worth the money. The décor is nice and the chairs were amazing. The whole place had a warm sandy feel to everything and sitting in there was pleasant enough.
