Sandwiched between the semi derelict warehouses and hip venues of Digbeth on the one side and the council tower blocks on the other, Highgate Park is often forgotten about. This is a shame as it’s actually quite a nice park for what it is. A small to medium sized park lightly wooded with old trees, bordered on one side with Victorian buildings(sadly also falling into a derelict state), it’s a good place for a peaceful walk on a sunny afternoon, particularly if you’re staying at the Paragon Hotel next door. In recent years, volunteer efforts have helped to improve the park, though parts of it do feel a little neglected. There is a small playground but there’s not a great deal for children to do so if you’re planning a big day out with the family, Cannon Hill Park a few miles down the road is probably a better bet. But for a place to idle away a few hours during those rare moments of pleasant weather we have in this country, Highgate Park will do just fine.
