Finally signed up for the my John Lewis card and got vouchers for free hot drink and a cake. I received three vouchers but didn’t use one as it came at the end of the month while I was away. You can have any of the hot drinks like capuccino to tea. You can select any of their cakes. Present the cashier with the voucher and the my John Lewis card and it’s free!!! First time I went to the restaurant, no one had cleaned many tables so had to move dirty cups etc ourselves. Second time, it was late had sections were closed off.

I had high hopes for the café at the top of the new John Lewis but I left feeling very underwhelmed. Very much a ‘self service’ café with very few cooked options and a lack of vegetarian choices. Staff however were very friendly, the décor was inviting and the view from the floor to ceiling windows was great. After struggling to find a vegetarian option I opted for the houmous and falafel salad, which I couldn’t fault, though I had been hoping for a cooked meal. They clearly have a few teething issues, hence the low score, but it would be a nice place to meet for coffee with a friend.

Really don’t get the layout of this store. The beauty counters aren’t really visible, anything that isn’t at the front can’t be seen which is a shame. The homeware is also spread over a few floors and it was a bit confusing. Homeware in John Lewis is always good and wish it was altogether. The curtain and mirror section is really nice upstairs and look forward to trying the restaurant. Of course the best bit of John Lewis is the tech section and their price matching. I really liked the camera section, looked like a good selection.

John Lewis coming to Birmingham has been a big deal for some time. People have been talking about it a lot and general excitement levels have been pretty high. I thought I would stop by this week to see what all the fuss is about. As part of the Grand Central development the store is new, shiny and polished but I was expecting some serious wow factor! As much as I think the store is great, as soon as you step foot inside you could be in any John Lewis store in the UK. With all the hype surrounding this opening I was expecting the designers to pull out all the stops and create something truly breathtaking… for that reason i was slightly disappointed. Don’t get me wrong a new department store is never a bad thing. It has created many jobs and also has some amazing things on the shelves, I was just expecting something more unique. In my opinion… good…just not breath taking.

I love the new John Lewis at Grand Central. The homewear department is set out very stylishly and has given me lots of inspiration for the flat. They’ve deliberately gone for a mix of contemporary and classic designs and have highlighted when something is local. I haven’t had much chance to look around the fashion departments but it looks like there’s lots to explore. The kitchen department is massive. We went looking for a frying pan and there are LOTS. There’s a great deal of bakeware and glassware. I’ve become obsessed with glasses since coming across this section. I think John Lewis will be especially helpful at Christmas as they have a massive array of gifts and a decent Christmas department. The restaurant looks stylish and I expect it is help yourself as it is in Solihull. I’m pleased to have a John Lewis near me and I’m sure to use it many times.

Massive John Lewis located in the centre of Birmingham, in the middle of the new shopping centre where Birminginham New Street comes into. This is apparently now the biggest store they have, it definitely is big and you will definitely find something that you like here. The problem is finding it amongst all the many concessions inside.

I first experienced a John Lewis store whilst at university in Leicester. Back then I don’t think I could fully appreciate it like I do now(having said that I did spend a lot of time there). I haven’t even been around the whole store. I spent an hour looking around the ground floor and found a rather fetching olive wood spatula that I’m so taken with I might actually buy. I witnessed a gentlemen looking at several different woks and getting some fairly in depth advise from a sales assistant on what he’d be using it for, what kind of job etc. It was interesting to witness that level of product knowledge and advise on something like a wok — John Lewis employees really know there stuff. I got up to the third floor today — I’m more interested in furniture than clothes. Having a good look around all of the wonderfully presented objects it’s like an up market ikea. Of course it’s expensive, but that’s expected before you even go in. Your paying for that quality and the customer service after all.
