It is not a posh looking restaurant, so if you expect some kind of special atmosphere go elsewhere — this one is simple. We stopped for a quick bite before the opera and I have to say both Chinese-style dishes were excellent. The chicken with green peppers and black bean sauce and the roast pork curry are very classic Chinese style dishes(they were our«safe» choices), but they are a pretty good indicator of the quality of a restaurant since you can compare them with everywhere else. They might have been mild if you like spicy, but the roast pork was not dry at all, the sauces were perfectly balanced a the cooking just right. The prices are very modest and our server was delightfully cheerful and helpful. If I’m in Birmingham again, I’ll certainly drop by to try something Malaysian.

Small canteen-style restaurant serving various South-East Asian and Chinese style dishes. I had fried udon noodles with seafood, which was nice, and Hong Kong style roast duck, which I would probably not order again. The staff were courteous and attentive. Although the portions were very generous(I didn’t manage to finish it all), I felt it was perhaps a little more expensive than I would have expected.

I quite like this place, I mean you know what to expect because the food is decent and the prices are very reasonable. I love Malaysia and love Asian food from all parts of the world, so it’s great when I can get a chance to visit more authentic restaurants which provide different food instead of eating the same old Nando’s. It’s one of those places which could have better decorations but I guess it’s the food which is the most important thing more than the interior of the place but it always helps for me. Malaysian Delight is located not too far from the town centre, so it’s pretty popular with people within the centre of Birmingham but I do know people who travel from other parts of the West Midlands i.e. West Bromwich, Walsall, Solihull to eat at Malaysian Delight. I love their chicken dishes and they do cook lovely noodles if you are a noodles fan.

Don’t be put off by the insides, the food is good and what you would expect as hawker fair in Malaysia. Price wise is reasonable, for the authentic dishes. Normal roast meats(Hong Kong type cuisine) other outlets may be better. Service no complains either.

This place is not authentic in its layout or decorations but the food is amazing and from what I have been told by people from malaysia it is pretty authentic. Anyway I have been here loads of times and have never had a bad experience with the food. I know what to expect and i always get it. The pricing is good, because its not pretending to be a posh joint. It is a very popular restaurent, established over many years and I hope they keep up the good work. Only bad point would be the seating by the toilets, there is not much to seperate the two cubicles from the main eating area apart from a curtain, but I dont think they can really do much about it.

My friends and I visited Malaysian delight twice in the same night, it was that good! The décor is basic, the staff are attentive and the food is freshly cooked and delicious. The nyonya fired noodles,(chicken, prawns, citrus flavours and fish flakes) were amazing, washed down with a beer. I’d go back!

Pics@Chopstix2Steaknives So I arrived into Birmingham and it was straight onto dinner even though it was way past what is considered to be the usual dinner time. Over the course of the next few days, I’ve been coming back to savour on other Malaysian dishes as well. The restaurant that I’ve been talking about is called Malaysian Delight. This looks like one of your typical local rustic place and is definitely not posh or the like. I wasn’t bothered as most importantly, it is always the food right? Below are some of the dishes that I’ve tried. Kangkong belacan Crunchy stems and silky leaves that have picked up the belacan sauce so that each and every mouthful is a tingling fiery sensation. I can never get enough of kangkong belacan. Now to the one dish that I have been salivating and looking longingly forward for days, the Marmite chicken. It was delicious and I can’t describe how happy I was. Marmite chicken does not taste anything like what you taste straight out of the jar. This is more akin to pork spare ribs where you get this sticky caramelised coating with a sweet tanginess due to the marmite. My only chafe was the sesame seeds sprinkles. Marmite chicken does not have sesame seeds sprinkles and I always forget to mention to them to not add this. The rest of the other rice and noodle based dishes are tasty and satisfying. Malaysian Delight is definitely one of the better Malaysian restaurants that I have come across and this includes those in London.

From the outside Malaysian delight might not look much, but peer beyond the façade and you will likely notice a largely Oriental customer base, which should give you some idea that Malaysian delight offers some pleasantly authentic dishes. The inside is not much to write home about, but the focus here is the food and thankfully it did not disappoint. For £28 we have two starters, two mains, rice and a few beers. The portions were generous and everything was well-cooked, at times eye-wateringly hot(but then that’s part of the fun) and packed with flavour. At this price I can’t help but recommend Malaysian delight, although, I do have to say that the neighbouring Village Café(see my review on here also) just edges it for me. But, it would be churlish of me to let that cloud the fact that we left full, happy and would visit again.
