Whilst it’s been awhile since I’ve been here, and if I’m honest every time I’ve been there it’s been exceptionally quiet. Like we are the only ones in there quiet. I’d put it down to them doing more sales via delivery. But judging by the reviews of this place it’s not a well kept secret. I was brought her as a ‘proper curry virgin’ by experiences prior had been out of a jar and pub curries. According to a friend this was unacceptable, so off we went. I can’t remember what I ordered. I know it was vegetarian and not spicy — I can’t do spicy as much as I try. You get a lot for your money, going for an Indian can be an expensive affair but this was reasonable by the amount of food received. The service as well is excellent, always smiling and helpful. I really must go again, I whole heartedly suggest the rest of you do too.

I think I am going to say it… This is my favourite Indian restaurant in Birmingham City Centre! Manzil’s is situated about a minutes walk from the Bull Ring and people in the know who know about curry know what I am talking about with this place. When you walk in, you are met with a homely and friendly atmosphere which makes it a delight to eat in. It’s an old school curry house which I love. I really like the wallpaper! I have got to know the waiters as I have visited so many times, who are really chatty and are always happy to see you. If you see Hakeem, he loves his Football! The music they play is so random and unexpected. The last visit I made, they were playing Britpop hits of the 1990’s haha On this visit, I was with 4 friends from down south who were visiting me for the day, who are tough critics I may add! I had the Chicken Pakora which was a great starter and just the right size to begin the meal. For the main course I had a lovely Dhansak which was really filling with Pilau rice. Manzil’s speciality is their sizzling dishes which provides a good alternative if you are not in the mood for a hearty curry. The biggest surprise came when the bill arrived and we split it. One of my friends said«That price wouldn’t even get you a starter which isn’t half as good as that in London.» Says it all really!

I was first introduced to this Birmingham institution when studying for a degree at Aston University in the early 1980s. In those days Manzil’s was unlicensed for liquor, but if you asked discreetly, lager would be served in a china teapot with cups and saucers on a tray; the subterfuge was required because Digbeth nick is bang next door. The food is consistently of a high quality. Also highly commended are the relaxed ambience and the genuinely warm friendliness of the staff. Mr Manzil died a few years ago but his son has taken over the mantle. Highly recommended.

Me and my Husband went to Manzils after a gig on friday(8/3/13)and I have to say the food was out of this world!!! One of the best curries I have had and we have a curry nearly once a week from various restaurants:) What put the cherry on top was the staff, very attentive and friendly they couldn’t do enough for us:) We’re from South Wales and I wish we lived nearer but when we’re in that neck of the woods we will definitely be visiting Manzils:)

As I have a studio on Fazeley Street I spend a lot of time in the Eastside/Digbeth area so there has been many a late night visit to Manzil’s. Situated on the Digbeth High street and open until late, you are most likely to end up there after a session in one of the local boozers or a night on the tiles. It’s a large restaurant with plenty of seating for large groups or smaller tucked away tables if there is just a couple of you. The menu has no surprises, it is a standard Indian menu, but the food is consistently good and very reasonable considering the restaurant is based in the heart of the city. They deliver locally(free!) and will cater to any special dietary requirements, always happy to change things to suit vegans and vegetarians. The best thing about Manzil’s might just be the staff. They are incredibly friendly and helpful(without being pushy) and upon a return visit with my band we were made to feel like we had all been best friends for years! Even when we hadn’t been there for over 6 months, the next time we went in they seemed genuinely pleased to see us, asked after everyone, it was like visiting family! Definitely recommend Manzil’s if you are out on the town and in desperate need of a curry.

Now before a good old drinking session down Digbeth way I like to line my stomach with a big meal. Where better to go for such a purpose than Manzils Curry house which is a short walking distance from great Digbeth pubs such as The Kerryman and The Dubliner. I’ve been here numerous times, normally for friend’s birthdays or other similar occasions which require a celebration. On every occasion I have visited they have found space for large groups and been some of the most attentive, friendly people I have had the pleasure of meeting. For that reason alone I would recommend Manzils and as their website attests they offer services for private events and also business functions. However, on top of great service they also provide great food and are certainly a match for any restaurant in the Digbeth area. In addition to all that they even offer a ten percent discount for students and nurses! So if you’re a smelly student in need of an alternative to beans on toast then Manzils can help you out. If you’re planning a birthday meal in Birmingham and you are a fan of Indian cuisine then look no further than this excellent restaurant.

According to the staff at Scruffy Murphy’s Manzil’s is ‘the best Indian in the area’ I’ve only been to one Indian restaurant in Birmingham, so I can’t judge it against the local competition, but I’m willing to wager that Manzil’s is right up there among the top ones. It may look a little plastic and takeaway-y from the outside, but once you’re in, it’s a fairly traditional looking Indian, perhaps a little dark, but hey, I think it’s supposed to be. The staff were efficient, no sooner had we sat down than we were offered popadoms and drinks. However, rather than feeling rushed, the staff seemed attentive and genuinely pleasant. We went for a quick mixed starter, perfectly sized portions, hot and tasty. And because when going for a hot curry, I can’t help but feel that ordering expensive wine is a bit of a waste(you can’t really savor it, can you?) we plumped for the house white. It was cheap. It was cheerful. It wen’t down well. Perfect! We ordered a couple of biryanis for our mains, along with some naan bread. Portions were huge, delicious and colorful. Not too spicy, but I’m sure they have plenty on the menu that can take your head off. I can’t say it was the very best Indian food I’ve had, but it was damn nice. By this time, the place had filled up with other metal fans probably directed from Scruffy’s. Everyone seemed to be having an ace time, joking with the staff and gorging on brightly colored food. Manzil’s is warm, fun, friendly and tasty. Great stuff.
