This is a no brainer as this is is quite simply one of the best and I’ve been to loads. Great service and the food is awesome.

If someone suggests going for a ‘curry’, the automatic response is to walk down to Sylhet Spice Cuisine. As we were in The Station and nearer to Poplar road, Stu suggested that we go to Pangaea. It being a Tuesday the place was empty when we walked in. My first impressions were that the décor was of a typical standard and that the room was quite small. The menu was pretty standard when I went in there with the usual Jalfezi, Madras, and Bhuna baltis, though looking at other reviews of this restaurant, I see they have since got some interesting sounding specials on the menu too. When my prawn madras arrived, a quick look revealed that the chef had made the error of scrimping on the prawns. I don’t mind a balti sauce that is thin like the one here, as I like to mop it up with nan bread, but there must be prawns in abundance, so that you aren’t literally fishing around in your dish for them when you are halfway through eating. The heat was good though, the chillies dilating my taste buds to let flavours flood in. For this price, you might not get the best food, but it served well as an en route post-pub filler that’s far more preferable to chip shop fare.

Shock horror I’m about to review another Birmingham curry house and once again I’m about to say good things about it. Birmingham is such a hot bed of quality curry that it would be easier for me to list Indian restaurants I don’t like rather than vice versa, but where’s the fun in that. Pangaea is on Poplar Road Kings Heath and ever since I visited there a few years back for a friend’s birthday meal I have been a firm fan. It’s a great place to relax and enjoy a meal because the décor allows you to relax, you feel at home and able to really let go and just enjoy some great food in lovely surroundings. They do a mean Lamb Pasanda and the prices are more than reasonable, so you can fill your gut without breaking the bank. The people here are very accommodating and they even cater for private parties! Sometimes a trip to Moseley just seems too much of an effort and on those occasions I choose to sample the mouth watering delights of Pangaea.

Birmingham is the second-city hub of Indian restaurants. And of all of the Indian restaurants I’ve been to Pangaea is the nicest. The ambience is lively but relaxed, you can enjoy the feeling of a busy restaurant without it impinging on your table’s privacy. The décor is slick and meticulously arranged. From my experience I have always been greeted warmly by the staff, escorted to a table swiftly, supplied with a heap of addictive poppadoms and dips whilst deciding what to select from the menu. They have a large variety of dishes to cater for the carnivore or vegetarian. Main dishes are between £6-£7, and you can easily have a very hearty meal for around £20 per head — if not less. The food is of a very good standard, the staff friendly and attentive, the restaurant dim-lit and laid-back — Pangaea delivers a very pleasant eating experience.

Pangaea has modern and chic décor in its restaurant. The outside of the restaurant has a contemporary design also, one that will surely entice customers strolling down Poplar Road. Pangaea have all of the regular dishes you would expect from a curry house. Madras is 6.25, Bhuna is also 6.25. Rice is a side at 2.20 or 2.50 for the fried variety. The great thing about this restaurant are the Chefs’ specials and the vegetarian menu. The Chef’s specials sit on the menu like the curry hall of fame. I had the butter chicken, which wasn’t very exciting sounding, but a party in my mouth commenced after the first bite. My friend had the not very Indian sounding Ocean Spice, which was a hearty fish curry containing cod, Haddock and lots and lots of prawns. That is a dish I would highly recommend. My girlfriend was very happy to see a wide vegetarian menu at Pangaea. She had the Vegetable Karai at 6.25 with a Nan at 1.65. The dish was very fresh, aromatic and tangy. She cleared her plate, as I did mine. We left satisfied and will come again. However I’m going to give the establishment 3 stars because the bar is set sop high being in the Balti capital of the World, Birmingham.
