This is a review of a takeaway delivered by Deliveroo( ), for Unilocal’s Big Night In( ). Pushkar are well regarded in Birmingham foodie circles, despite being located amongst some of the worst food in the city, only worth serving to those too drunk to notice, Pushkar regularly feature as one of the top Indian restaurants in the city. It was then met with great anticipation when they opened a sister venue on the Hagley Road earlier this year. The restaurant occupies a grade II large Victorian building and doubles up as a cocktail bar — something I doubt they would do on Broad St through fear of attracting hen/stag nights or student pub-crawls. I been fortunate to visit yet, but I certainly intend too. Luckily for me I live within 2 km of the restaurant so Deliveroo bring their scrummy food right to my door. So order I did! I went for their Paunjabi Chicken Masala, which had enough heat to make my nose run, but not enough to numb my tongue. The chillies, and spices were perfectly balanced so as one could taste the more subtle flavours too. The dish itself was £10.95. I ate it with a garlic & coriander naan(which was also awesome!), which was £2.95. It was the first time that I have had this dish and I thoroughly enjoyed it. So much so that I’m going to hunt out a recipe and try it myself sometime. Although I know I’ll never be able to recreate it anywhere near as good. The food was delicious; I can’t fault it. I knock a point off as I thought £3.50 for poppadums’ and dips was a tad expensive, I know many Indian takeaways give these out for free with an order. Had I been sat down for a meal the service could have earned that point back(or lost more, who knows).
