As sad as it sounds I came on my own for a curry as I was up in Birmingham for a training course and saw that Shimla Pinks was 2 minutes from my hotel. Fortunately for myself, there were some people on their own having curry so I didn’t feel so out of place! The food was delicious. The poppadoms are arranged in a unique fashion with tasty mango chutney and mint raita. The main courses were well presented in their individual bowls. The chicken Karahi was fantastic, spicier than I have had in the past and that’s not a bad thing. I would have liked to have seen more dishes that I normally have such as Sherpas or Dhansaks but it’s no bother. Im back in Birmingham tomorrow, maybe I’ll come back and be more adventurous!

Generally good food served in a darker lit room. The menu has a nice selection. The atmosphere is a little in the modern and upscale, but not overdone. The service is usually OK.

I am a picky vegetarian who has been away from India for close to 6 years. The result — Indian restaurants abroad bear the brunt of my over objective appraisals! Shimla Pinks was a so-so. The restaurant is nice .it’s on Broad St and the prices reflect the location ;) We ordered a vegetarian banquet… the food was quite good… now even though it filled us up, I would have trouble calling it a value for money meal. It is expensive and to be honest… not really worth it. We enjoyed the dal and subzis… absolutely delish. the aloo tikki starter was yum too. But hey, they seem to be doing funny things with the quantity of wine they serve. You can barely notice any difference in the quantity of wine between the 125ml and the 175ml: P Not sure who are they trying to fool ?! Go here if you want to splurge for an average meal. You have very limited choice of restaurants anyway in Brum!

Every time that I am in Birmingham, I leave a night for dinner here. favorites are lamb roganjosh and butter chicken. MY only problem is that when I taste something new here, I go elsewhere and ask for the same and it it isn’t as good as pinks. best to go with someone so you can get one one the banquets starting at 24.95 gbp per person. You get a selection of 4 appetizers /starters + 4 main dishes(small but ok portions of each! — but you can ask for seconds too). naan included. had the xmas dinner special last week and enjoyed very much Taste, and quality are excellent, good value. nice atmosphere. Service is usually very good, but this last time waiter got lost.

Shimla Pinks is one of the oldest fine-dining Indian restaurants in Birmingham. At one point it peaked as amongst the best but now given the competition of nearby restaurants like Pushkar, I don’t think Shimla Pinks offers value for money. The food is nice, but not amazing, yet the prices are dear. However, the service is incomparable. The waiting staff have always been polite and astute. You only have to look their way to get their immediate attention. The ambience is pleasant. It’s not the kind of place I would recommend to take children. The décor is elegant and minimalist. I like their attention to detail. When I booked in advance, I was asked what the occasion was. I said it was an anniversary dinner and they had decorated our table with yellow flowers — I’m not sure whether this was coincidence or they knew this was the colour of a first anniversary!

I think this is probably one of my favourite Indian restaurants in Birmingham. I recently celebrated my birthday here and the service we received was fantastic. From the moment I called up to make a reservation the girl on the phone was pleasent and helped me decide on a suitable time for my booking. There were 10 of us in total and we were set up on a long rectangular table which had been decorated with flowers. The waiter was always on hand to make sure our drinks were topped up and he joined us in a little banter which always makes my night. The food was delicious and served to us quickly considering how many meals and sides we ordered. Top restaurant from start to finish.

I had Shimla Pinks on two nights ago for dinner. My manager had been speaking of this restaurant since she arrived(only a couple days after me) in Birmingham. We finally visited Shimla Pinks. We had to, right? Otherwise, she’d be disappointed she didn’t get to have it again. Service — Tip-top! 5 out of 5 stars. Everyone was extremely friendly and provided us top service. Food — 3 out of 5. It was fine — nothing out of the ordinary or amazing. It was fine. Ambiance — 4.5 out of 5. It was nicely decorated. Price — 3 out of 5. It was expensive(for me as an American), but isn’t all of UK expensive? I was surprised that we had to pay for the pappadums, which at other restaurants are typically free. 1GBP for each pappadum. :-( Value — 2.5 out of 5. Because it was expensive, had to pay for pappadum, food was«A-OK», I’ll give it a 2.5 out of 5. If the quality of the food were better for the price or the price was a bit more affordable, I’d give it a higher value. Please don’t get me wrong, the food was fine. I just didn’t think the value was there… Again, not sure if this has anything to do with me being an American. I’ll be very thankful when I return to the States. I will appreciate how CHEAP our food is… =) Also, with Indian restaurants, I wonder if it’d be better to have tons of people there… as it would probably give more options. I want to have lots of Indian foods — not just what I ordered. Otherwise, I can’t get out of my zone. BTW, I got Chicken Tikka Masala. I’m a fan of Chicken Tikka Masala and want to find the best.

I visited on a sunday evening. We were greeted pleasently by the manager(the only way I could tell this was he was the only one wearing a shirt and tie!). After opening the door for us(plus score) he then proceeded to stand by the door watching two street cleaniers jet wash Broad Street!!!(ninus score!!!) …for over 4 mins! Add to this there were no staff on the bar!!! So we stood and waited(for his concentration to shift back to the fact that he had just lead two diners through to a staffless aybss) and were relieved when he scooted round the bar and asked us to take a seat. Drinks are not cheap but this is one of the top Indian restaurants in the City so you are getting what you pay for. We decided on our dishes and were shown through to our table. The restaurant was quiet(2000hrs). The décor is very nice, contemporary but you still feel like your in a curry house — a very swanky one at that!) The food was superb in parts and poor in others. My Lamb main course and our Keema naan were excellent — as good as I have had. Other than the«manager» who was totally clueless — to the question«is this a very saucy dish?» he replied«Its like ketchup… oh no sorry, sorry its not like ketchup!!!» I think he ment the consistency was similar to ketchup — a perfectly good analergy but he struggled and after that we asked only of his staff and they were all perfectly efficeint and friendly. We had a very good experience. Shimilas has a long way to go if it wishes to attain the culinary levels of Raj Dout or Asha’s — this is however a nice alternative if your over near Broad St — be carefull x
