Victoria Inn

How have I never written a review for The Victoria? It’s our favourite place to go for a bit of a celebratory meal. I’ve been a fair few times in the evening when it’s quite busy but have recently been twice for lunch when it’s been a quieter, more bistro like experience.
At lunch you can have the same menu as in the evening (the belly pork main is to die for) or you can choose from a fixed price menu. We were celebrating our anniversary and decided not to be restricted to the fixed price menu. We had the sticky meat platter to start off with which was delicious — the incredibly healthy deep fried belly pork was melt in the mouth and tasted gorgeous with the onion chutney. My partner then had the line caught cod which came with mushy peas (always a win in my book — I’m a Northern lass!) and beautiful fat crisp chips. I had a burger topped with pulled pork — both meals were delicious. Drinks wise they have a very large range — I had a Rhubarb Fizz non alcoholic cocktail and my partner had an Ubu.
The other important thing to say about the Victoria is that the service is excellent and the staff make you feel very welcome.
There is a car park and outside dining and the interior decoration is very pleasing. I can’t recommend this place highly enough — we love it.
Oh and I haven’t talked about the desserts on this review but OMG try them!

Tues 16 aprl 2013 nice quiet lunch on a sunny afternoon got a quiet cosy corner of the bar the 2 members of staff gem and laura were very informative had a look at the menu had a large glass of chenin sprizter and chose corned beef hash strter very nice with a fried egg on top and then duck for main nice dauphonoise potatoe with carrots and crushed peas jus was tasty loads of duck think it was a bout 7 slices nicely cooked I would recommend here but I haven’t been when it has been busy as others have I loved it would cme again possibly on a satur the village drive though looks interesting for a mooch

A few years ago this was a pretty grotty, dodgy pub in a posh area. Now it’s a high-​quality pubstaurant. It’s a bit more expensive than your average pub grub, but the quality and service is of a high standard. Combine good food with good beer, and you have a winner in my book. Six of us had a number of different mains and puddings, and all were tasty, well presented, and generally of good proportions. Maybe not the best value for money, but it’s a really nice place to come for a treat if you’re feeling flush. Booking recommended as it can get busy.
Four stars because it was a bit nippy in there, and my portion of mushy peas was a little disappointing.

we went to this pub on 1÷12÷12 for a staff Christmas dinner and had the worst time with the worst food I have ever had in my life!!!
Not a thing on the table to mark the fact that it was Christmas, the staff didnt know what food came with what, very little veg and sauces, and if you asked them for anything they just grunted and walked away.
The drinks where very over priced and the bar area crowded, and they all stand watching you eat.
If you have booked this pub dont bother !!!

nice relaxing restaurant which has a modern feel about it. Good selection of meals which are reasonably priced. Would defo come back again

This is a great little pub, well actually not that little — it feels quite spacious and open inside and with a nice outside /​garden area too for smokers or to enjoy those summer months. Theres a really good choice of both real ales and lagers on tap, and its not just the usual limited range of pub snacks such as crisps here — the food is excellent and very reasonably priced. Theres no loud juke box, and its definitely one of those places that you can come to, chat with your mates and just enjoy the whole beer thing. Ahh, beer. The owners are friendly and helpful, and all in all its a nice proper kind of pub. One place that id definately recommend you try out. Its easy to find and has parking nearby. Give it a try next time youre in the area.
