The best thing about Camelford for me is hands down L’Occitane verbena soap in the bathrooms — makes every loo break so much more enjoyable! It’s a little things that count.

Stayed in Brighton this weekend and went to the Camelford Arms for food. I have drunk many times in there over the years but this was the first time I ate there. Both my best mate and I had the rib-eye steak on Saturday evening. He also had cheesy garlic mushrooms. Neither of us were disappointed. The service was good and pretty friendly. The food was very fresh tasty and the steak was cooked exactly as it should have been. It certainly hit the spot for both of us! With this in mind a second trip for Sunday lunch. It was very busy but they managed to squeeze us in. Must BOOK in future! I can understand why it’s so popular. Everything was pretty damn good, no excellent. Service good for a second time and the food served in plentiful portions and incredibly tasty. My pork was cooked incredibly well and my friends lamb was similarly well prepared. They were also happy to supply a little extra gravy. Service again was good and in view of this I am definitely recommending this place to eat. It’s only my second ever 5* rating and this place deserves it. Keep it up and I will be back.

Came here with a gay friend and was, frankly, blown away(oh, stop it). Friendly staff, good beer selection and the décor is amazing.(Probably should say fabulous, but I hate to be that predictable.) We came on a quiet(ish) Sunday afternoon, so can’t comment on what it’s like on a busy Friday or Saturday, but based on my first visit, I’ll be going back.

Tried to book a table for a meal in this pub during the day with my family and was told that they didn’t have a ‘licence’ for children.

Positve Great food. Great during the day and friendly. Negative Because of the ‘pub unfriendly’ neighbours(why would you buy a house in a small street with a pub?), the windows are sealed, therefore no ventilation, noisy, stuffy and somewhat like a cattle transport truck on the way to the abattoir! This is a real problem on a busy weekend night. Shuts at 23:00 on nights other than Friday and Saturday. you might have your pint snatched from you at 2 minutes past Annoying.

Formerly the White Horse, a major refurbishment last year has transformed it from a dull and dingy(and slightly dodgy) boozer, into one of Brighton’s most popular gay pubs. There’s a single large bar area, decorated in a stripped-back, clean and modern style with exposed brickwork and white-painted wood. There are tables with seating around the walls and stools along the front of the bar. They had 3 real ales on tap on my last visit, including Harvey’s Sussex Best Bitter, Thwaites Original and Adnam’s Broadside, which seemed decently kept. Service was friendly if a little slow, though they were fairly busy. They also serve traditional and hearty-looking pub grub(the specials board consisted almost entirely of beef dishes), though I’ve not eaten here. It gets particularly busy at week-ends(especially after 9pm), with a predominantly gay, male crowd in their 30s and 40s, with some leather types and gay skinheads(though it’s friendlier than that sounds!). The pub also has wifi, daily papers and dogs are welcome.

Situated close to the seafront in a narrow side street off Marine Parade, this is a very friendly and welcoming pub, where one feels immediately at home. The clientele are mostly men in their 30s and upwards, who give a smile to newcomers, and are chatty and talkative. The pub appears to have been quite recently refurbished — looking on Google Street View it was previous named White Horse — but has been re-done in a tasteful and fitting manner. My pint of Harvey’s Best was well poured, tasted as good as I’ve ever had, and was just £2.20 a pint. And a bonus for fans of good beer is that they also serve the best lager from Portugal, Sagres.
