Seagull Restaurant

really enjoyed my cod and chips here! — Food delicious and a nice atmosphere with cheery staff!!!

Good service, food was a ok not filling and great for people watching.

Seagull Restaurant seems to be one of the few places right down on the sea front that still sells Fish and Chips out of season… Maybe it was just the day I went, but I was seriously hankering for some fishy goodness, and couldn’t seem to find anywhere that was open. So I was doubly pleased to find that Seagull was open, and very pleasant too. There’s a big mirror running around two walls when you walk in, which gives the impression the place is huge, and also knocks you off balance when you see someone out of the corner of your eye that is wearing exactly the same clothes as you, and has the same haircut as you… Other than this fairly immense design choice, the place is pretty traditional, with wooden tables and chairs and good honest food.
I ordered white bait, knowing how tasty it was (and seeing it was surprisingly cheap) but I didn’t realise what it was exactly… I knew the fish were tiny, hence the amount I received (the portions are more than fair and come with a side of salad) but I didn’t realise they were battered whole… It was only after my 15^th fish or so that I realised I could see their little tails. open mouths. and staring eyes… Gulp.
Fortunately, it had been so delicious up until then, that I couldn’t resist eating the rest, despite the fact they were staring at me the whole time. The waitress was friendly and happy, and stood waiting to help whoever needed it, and she also cut a delicious piece of cake for another couple of diners that I wish I could have afforded… All in all, a great little place!
