Not the biggest fan of all of the products in Tesco– in terms of quality I do not think it is the best. Especially the meat, mind I don’t eat meat anymore! However, this store is very convenient. It feels like it’s always open which is what you need when you need to top up on things like milk or basic groceries. The opening hours are from 7am till 117days… although Sunday they shut earlier. This is perfect again for me… plenty of times I’ve come home drunk in the morning, got a cheeky croissant or cheese twist, tried to challenge myself to drunkenly use the self service to avoid the cashier from realising that I’m absolutely steaming and haven’t gone to bed. I always fail miserably using those self service machines whether I’m drunk or sober! And, closing at 11 is also perfect if you fancy some chocolate or ice cream when your hungover and you’ve not moved out of bed all day… I’M NOT A ALCOHOLIC ! The staff are friendly mostly, if your a regular they will obviously recognise you and have a bit of bants! The shelves are always stocked up and they do reduce stuff which is amazing because you can get items for real cheap! I’ve learnt that it’s as specific times — I ain’t going to share this for y’all to know! Anyway — overall I’m happy with Tesco, although they do seem to be taking over the world. I think they have actually started opening stores in India as well as Dubai! What a load of s!

This store is small but perfectly formed. The selection of products is just about large enough for those convenience shops when your regular supermarket is closed. Downsides, there are always beggars sitting on the floor outside(probably because there is a cash machine outside too). The queueing area can get a little cramped(this is where the alcohol is too). On the plus side, it’s in a nice location(opposite the library). In fact I often come here in preference to the Tesco Express when I fancy a little walk. Of course there are the amazing low prices and offers on various offers that you can get at any Tesco Express.

As you may have probably seen from my other review, I am not a fan of Tesco at all. I rarely use this one as it isn’t close to where I live, but is near to my friends house so it’s handy for picking a couple of Kopparberg’s or something on my way round there. It’s a Tesco Express, so not exactly huge. Guaranteed on a Friday night it is always busy in there with people stocking up on a few cold bottles to start their weekend. They have a cashpoint outside too, however there always ends up being massive queues, and it’s a slow machine — Probably quicker to queue inside Tesco and get cashback.

It is sad to see Tesco branches swallowing up our city centre, but this particular store occupies a part of Brighton awash with chain restaurants and businesses already sadly. Think Pizza Express, Yo! Sushi, Head Masters, Las Iguanas etcetc. At least it remains in this area, slightly separate from the cluster of nice pubs down by Jubilee Square(The Fitzherbert’s, Mash Tun and Wagon and Horses), and at least you can’t see it when you’re browsing the independent stores of the parallel North Laine streets. I have to agree with Sarah-Jane on this — I can think of few reasons to enter this shop — I did once when I had the sugar-shakes when rushing around town all day, and I found that the fresh cakes they sell are pretty yum(blueberry muffin). Overall A-Ok.

Brighton Council have made some baaaad mistakes over the years. Letting the West Pier rot. Allowing the Bandstand to disintegrate. And giving Tesco permission to open an Express store in the North Laines. The area has been home to hundreds of cool and quirky independent shops for decades and as we all know, one of Tesco’s trademarks is elbowing and crushing small businesses out of the way. If it was an emergency I’d go in this branch for Nurofen or wine but I’d never buy my groceries or store-room goodies from here. It’s cheap but soul-less.

All Tesco Express’ are pretty much the same in style but it’s useful to know about this one because it lies in the very heartland of the North Laines and so provides an easy resource for cheap groceries. It’s right opposite the library so if you are studying in there you can run across and grab some water, some sushi(drier and less tasty than nearby Yo Sushi but inevitably cheaper.) or a sandwich(I have never had a nice sandwich from Tesco’s– they are all too heavy on the mayonnaise, but they do sell them). for a breakfast on the run they have a selection of freshly baked rolls, patisserie and doughnuts– all quite good actually. They sell ice-creams in the summer. All very useful really. The best part is that they installed an ATM when they opened– filling a gaping hole in the North Laines where ATM are non-existent. No more traipsing to one end or another of the Laines for cash! There are often queues though so go early or late during lunch break hours.
