For me, Goldstrike Casino is one of East Street’s defining features. With its garish coloured front and neon lit interior, it possesses a brazen quality which typifies said street. What’s more, like the many cafes dotted along East street, this is every inch a working man’s joint. I can’t say I’ve frequented the place much, but on the few occasions I have(hard day at the office etc) I’ve been briefly acknowledged by a scant number of tradesmen otherwise engrossed in their gambling business. All I can say is that in the unlikely event that you do strike gold, there a several banks at hand in the area. So don’t be a mug — run run run to the bank!

Not somewhere i can admit to frequently visiting, but when i fancy a little bit of a flutter i do enjoy going to the Goldstrike and shoving a few pound coins into the red flashing slots in the hope of it coughing up more shiny golden coins than i squeezed in. This place is full of neon lights and flashing machines, it reminds me a little bit of the holdiays we used to spend in Devon as a kid but without all the fresh sea air, the gorgeous golden sand and the scrumptious Hockings Ice Cream — all you can see out of these windows is the dank setting of Bedminster’s East Street, not quite paradise.

A popular place for the working men of Bristol, you immediatley feel more ‘manley’ upon entrance, even if an eirie silence echos around a room full of flashing machines and falling coins. Be carefull when entering, set yourself a limit or you could fastley see your weeks work money slipping away from you! I, at the moment, seem to be able to quit on a high, but I have to make sure I don’t let my success get the better of me. Mainley because I still really don’t know what I am doing on all the machines!
