I had a friend come to visit with four small energetic children. We wanted to take them somewhere where they would be happily occupied whilst we had a chat. I had found Hengrove Park on the internet, and thought we would try it out. When you drive in off the road it looks like a major commercial centre and you think you have made a mistake, but tucked away behind the Gala Bingo is a large city council run playpark. There is a huge range of climbing frames, sandpits, swings and slides, as well as grassy areas. It is all clean, well run and safely enclosed by fencing and there is a café and toilets on site too. It was a cheap day out as there are no entry fees and we didnt have to pay for parking either. The kids absolutely loved it and were happily entertained for hours there both on the kids play area and watching the skating and BMX event on the neighbouring track whilst we treated ourselves to a picnic and some chips from the café. I would highly recommend this as a children’s play area, the only reason I didnt give it five stars was because the toilets were not as pleasant as they could have been!

What a place — this little beauty has something for everyone! Indeed, I have a theory that such is the range of entertainment and amenities on offer that you could easily spend a whole weekend here without having to leave the confines of this, essentially, pimped up car park(especially if you’re a lonely businessman or 14 year old chav). Off the top of my head it holds a Harvester-style pub(no hoodies or caps), a travel tavern, an eat as much as you can Chinese buffet, a Frank and Benny’s, a bingo hall, a multiplex cinema, a McDonald’s, and a newly-built KFC. What more could any sane ‘urbanite’ want?!
