Horfield was my home for a year or two when I first moved to Bristol and it’s still a nice little community outside the main centre. There are two main themes replete with this neck of the woods: not very nice to look at, but it does the job. This chippy is a fine example. In what looks like the glorified extension of a garage under a house in matching weathered terracotta and beige — is a pretty darn good fish and chips. The Cod is as expensive as anywhere in the UK now we’ve chased all the little blighters away from our coast, but some things are a great deal cheaper. The Beef and Ale pie for example or the Scampi are both excellent quality if you’re after something a little cheaper. My advice however is to have a fish(even if it’s a Haddock) with some chunky chips with vinegar. Do the place justice — do it properly.
