I went here for Sunday lunch whilst with friends and ordered soup to start and chicken as a main. The soup of country vegetable was horrible — practically cold, a meagre portion and the bread wasn’t all that fresh. The main was a lot better. The half chicken portion was pretty generous and lovingly dressed with lashings of gravy — which may have been Bisto — but was tasty nonetheless. The roast potatoes were just ok — not really crispy and a little oily. The vegetables were nice but the parsnips were revolting — why undercook parsnips, they need to be crispy golden and thin. It was a pretty average Sunday lunch but I was with great company which made up for the cold soup!

Food wasn’t worth the price, service was very slow and staff were to pre occupied to look after us, were told we had 2hrs at our table on arrival but between ordering our starters and mains was more than an hour gone and then took ages to order deserts and receive them very poor wouldn’t go again

used to visit a lot, but went for Sunday lunch this week and for some reason they have gone small on the portions. prawn cocktail @ £4.50 = 13 small prawns and 2 bits of lettuce. Upon questioning, was advised that it was the standard side! rip off! sunday lunch itself was nice, but again, small portions. go to the priory at portbury instead, miles better!

The Dovecote is one of my favourite places to go for a pint or a nice informal dinner. Situated at the bottom of Ashton Court, the Dovecote is ideally placed for you to drop in after a nice long walk in the court. The pub has recently been revamped, and I have to say it looks smashing. The tables are lovely old wood, while the lighter-coloured walls give an airy modern feel. The large windows also help to keep the interior bright and dispel that dark and dingy pub vibe. Food orders are made at the bar, but delivered to your table by waiting staff, and your tab is kept track of by means of large, brightly painted wooden spoons, which I think are a really quaint touch. The food is freshly cooked to order and really excellent. The gammon deserves a special mention, and the chips that come with it are always crunchy golden beauties. As for desserts, well, prepare to ruin your diet. The selection is nothing out of the ordinary — crumble, profiteroles, everything you’d expect, but the taste is absolutely wonderful!

The open chicken pie is amazing. Really, go there just for that, it’s so worth it. The prices are great, the food plentiful and tasty. It’s owned by the same people as the priory, if youi’ve been to one, they are pretty much the same. this is good as they are both really nice.

This is a really bland, chain pub located on a really busy road between Long Ashton and Bristol. Although there is a beer garden, located next to the road it isn’t the most pleasant place to sit with your glass of wine and have a chat. The food is reasonable, pretty much what you’d expect from any chain pub really. The staff are really nice though, and they’re always very cheery and friendly. There is quite a big car park so you’ll have no trouble parking and located near Ashton Court Estate, perhaps it makes a reasonable place to stop off after a Sunday morning walk?

A lovely pub situated near to the entrance of Ashton Court estate. The pub itself can be a bit tricky to find but is definitely worth a bit of driving around. It looks really quaint from outside and the interior is really nice and cosy with spacious rooms and a big open fire. It seems to operate more as a restaurant and would seem to be part of a chain but don’t let that put you off as the food is excellent. The apple and toffee ‘granny’ pudding is definitely recommended. The staff are great and really friendly and helpful. They are also very welcoming towards young children. A great place to go for Sunday lunch.

This quaint little pub is at times confused as to what it should be. It is unfortunately owned by a rather large national company and therefore it suffers from a lack of individuality. However, the benefit is it can offer drinks at reasonable prices and decent quality food that won’t damage your wallet. The best thing about this little gem though is its location. On the very edge of the Ashton Court Estate means it is a perfect place to visit whilst walking and the lack of surrounding buildings makes it a haven for plants and wildlife. The clientele is predictably low key. You have to drive to get here so there aren’t any annoying drunkards spoiling the atmosphere just many like minded people enjoying a quiet drink and meal.
