Somewhat a bi-modal place : + in a way is the best spot in cb center to take someone for coffee(splendid space) or work quietly(no music, tons of space, welcoming and won’t ask you to leave after one hour). Especially with its great opening hours. Early morning on weekdays or weekends it is a sanctuary(somewhat literally). — Then comes weekend day/afternoon and the place turns into the busiest thing north of kings cross station. Crowds of noisy groups from out of town makes it difficult to think our even appreciate a good cup. Drinks fairly price(good regular illy, satisfying but you won’t write home about), food is a bit pricey and nice, anyway you support a good place! Oh and don’t get buried in this church or your tomb stone might end up decorating a restroom.

I don’t live in Cambridge anymore, and I thoroughly miss this space. It was my local weekend haunt. Good coffee. Yummy scones and salads. A good mix of locals and tourists.

Good, well seasoned and filling food with a lot of greens. A good place for lunch. There wasn’t much fresh about the«fresh orange juice» though.

Michael House is an overpriced, overcrowded restaurant in the City Centre that caters to Cambridge’s hordes of tourists. I don’t think the food is worth the cost(or waiting in the typically long-lines), but the lattes are very good. For students who come here at off-hours, it can be a decent place for a group study session. However, during peak times, tables can be difficult to find, and you will be surrounded by loud tourist families with children, making studying difficult.

A seriously good place. The food is always fresh, cooked on site, and with very good choice from traditional to inventive — but, more importantly, it always tastes fantastic. The prices aren’t high either, specially given the quantity put on your plate. Service is normally fast and cheerful, although the place is sometimes a victim of its own success: have a look before queueing, as it may be full during high season. You can normally find at least two seats upstairs, in the hidden, quieter section.

Beautiful café in a converted church; in fact part of it is still a working religious foundation, and there’s a beautiful chapel which you can see through modern class doors. The food is hearty and locally-produced and the setting is fantastic, with seating on two levels in a medieval hall. Quiches and cakes are an especial strong point, as is the ample supply of seating. Students take note: they have a special ‘Hungry Student’ offer from 2.30−3.00pm, where you are allowed any remaining lunch food for £2.95. Bargain!

Fantastic place! Right in the center of Cambridge but quite tucked away from the crowds, bikes, buses, and prams. They have a hungry student special for an hour, starting at 2.30pm ~ you get a plate of delicious and fresh(!) food for 4 quid. The atmosphere is nice and social downstairs; it can be more studious and quiet upstairs. Early closing time at 5pm or so. Highly recommend the coffee and the scones are as big as your head.

I love this place. Great coffee, tea and freshly made local food. And yes! Healthy food. I even bring my visitors here to eat. Now, that Bill took over this place. The food is still heavenly. They have a variety of menu that pleases anyone. Right across Trinity College, where St. Michael Church is. Michael House is also a community center. They have art work, poetry reading, and performances. You can book a place at Michael House. The café is nicely designed and church like. I only wish the chairs were more comfortable.

One of my favorite hide-outs in Cambridge, this hidden café is found inside the Church on Trinity Street. A stunning interior makes a lovely setting in which to enjoy a cup of tea and cake, or even a light lunch. The staff are very friendly and the food delicious — although a little bit pricey if you go for a meal. You can chose to sit downstairs, or make your way up the spiral staircase(which can be quite tricky if you are carrying a tray) and sit on the balcony, from where you can enjoy the architecture of the church from up high. The setting of this café in a Church is breathtaking. It is a fantastic place to enjoy a drink, and being so close to the centre of town there is no excuse not to go. Make sure you keep your eyes peeled for the sign, as it can be quite easy to miss.

Tucked away on Trinity Street, just off the central market square, Michaelhouse used to be(and in some ways still is) a parish church. A small gothic stone building completely dwarfed by college premises, it has recently been completely transformed: while the chancel still functions as a chapel with regular services taking place(for instance short prayers in the morning and at lunchtime), the main part of the double height building now serves as a café and community centre. The café is a quiet place, a real haven in which to escape from the hustle and bustle of shoppers outside, and the food and hot drinks served by friendly staff are of fantastic quality, but not necessarily cheaper than at other establishments in the vicinity. Michaelhouse also has a lively programme of cultural events such as concerts and talks, as well as rooms for hire, and you can even arrange your wedding there!

A beautiful café in the town centre, the standards of food, drink and service are generally much better than the majority of places nearby. The food is largely veggy food but not exclusively so. It’s a working and active church and cultural venue, and occasionally has concerts and talks.
