No. It has a nice garden when the weather’s good, but the service, food, and ale selection are terrible. I’m sure if you only went for drinks you might be OK, but we waited for nearly an hour for our burgers. They apparently went to the wrong table. It was ridiculous. We won’t be back.

Great pub, not really that expensive. Went there yesterday(27÷4÷14) found the food to be quite cheap £9 — £15 depending on what you are eating. Food arrived incredibly quick which did make me wonder how much of it is being cooked properly. But when eating it really does seem to be freshly cooked and of a good standard. It’s also a very good pub but drinks are on the steep side. Also has a nice selection of ales(if that’s your thing) but does not have the all important drink Fosters!

This is a Greene King pub — so you know what you’re getting(standard menu, good ales, and a selection of guests). It’s on Midsummer Common, and overlooks the Cam — a really pretty setting. This can make for it being a very popular venue at times. There’s a sign in the pub which says that it was once situated on an island! We weren’t sure if the pub had been moved, or if Cambridge’s topography had altered significantly! The pub’s attractive — it’s an old wattle and daub building with lots of little rooms. We sat next to a lovely log fire — all very cosy! The bar staff were very polite and attentive, the atmosphere was convivial, and the food was good. So, definitely worth a visit!

The recent refurb pulled out most of the character and did nothing for the food service wait times, which can get epic on weekend lunchtimes. Still, the location’s unparalleled: go during term time and watch boat crews gearing up to race.

Truth be known, I prefered this quaint, historic pub when it was dark, dingy, full of regulars and had loads of character — not to mention characters! Its recent reincarnation as a ‘posh’ pub was a bit of a disappointment. Too bright, slightly impersonal — and where have all the regulars gone? Saying that it’s still one of the nicest pubs in Cambridge, especially on a glorious summer’s day, when you can sit along the river and sip a cool pint. Even in the winter you can cuddle up by the fireplace and feel cosy and warm.

This is a great pub in one of the best parts of Cambridge, very quiet and peaceful location right by the riverside, you can watch the world go by, and rowers too for that matter. Excellent bar with a very wide range of beers and wines and also for the now colder season some delicious hot drinks as well. My wife and I tried to have Sunday roast there the other weekend but as the pub is so popular we could not find any seats and there was a rather long queue to wait in as well, but make no mistake the wait is well worth the fresh cooked carvery. Never had any troubles with bringing children in and they also have a very large outside heated patio for us smokers too.

Probably the most expensive pub in Cambridge, but it’s easy to understand why given the location. It’s right on the river. You can even see into the men’s changing rooms in the rowing club opposite! Ha ha! It’s just had a refurb but they’ve kept the authenticity of the place pretty much, and the outdoor space is particularly nice given the riverside location. The sunday roast there is excellent with plenty of meat choices! But their standard menu is also pretty good — especially the cous cous salad. In the summer they adorn the outside with bunting and have Pimms on tap, which is great.

Sunday carvery at the Fort St. George belongs to our favourite treats. For £9 you get so much food you can hardly eat it and it is absolutely lovely as well. At least three different types of meat(pork, gammon, beef), Yorkshire pudding, gravy, roast potatoes AND mash, ratatouille, parsnips, … the list is neverending and a lot of people struggle to eat is all. If the weather is nice, perfect, because they have a superb outdoor seating area with view over Midsummer common. So dont bother with breakfast on a Sunday and book or be there before 12:30 or it might be sold out!!!

It’s a fun place for a great night out with your friends or just for recovering after shopping or sightseeing in Cambridge. Enjoy a drink and good food.

I’ve never failed to have a good time at the Fort. Its always got something to offer. Its cosy in winter(always have mulled wine!), and has a great garden, front and back for when its a bit warmer. In the summer, they have live bands, and comedians, and the event of the year on St George’s day itself. There’s a bouncy castle, inflatable pugle wars and a big fat BBQ. The burgers here are top.

A perfect pub to have a pint in after a hard outing on the river, or to watch those who are having their hard outings on the river! Good food mixed with a lively atmosphere and varied beer make this one of the most popular watering holes in cambridge. It is a bit of a walk from the center of town so more suited to those who want a relaxed lunch. The outdoor area is heated so is perfect to enjoy the summer or winter evening
