Like reviewer Anna T, I too thought Café Caribe was going to be serving up Caribbean food, but no: it’s basically a breakfast, snack and lunch place selling fairly predictable café style food and drinks. Even the warm yellow and and orange décor suggests something more exotic than you get. All a bit disappointing, really, when you were aiming for a place you thought might be serving Jerk chicken and Jamaican Ackee with Saltfish… If, however, you go here knowing what to expect, the food isn’t bad at all. Expect sandwiches, jacket potatoes and the other usual suspects. It’s not expensive, and the portions are generous. You’ll also usually get a seat, even at lunchtime — now that St David’s 2 has opened at the other end of town, many shoppers have shifted away and Capitol Centre is a lot quieter — good news for you if you need a quick lunch, but not such good news for the café owners, who are probably seeing lower takings.

For some reason I was expecting this café to sell Caribbean food. The name and the colourful décor was defiantly making me think that but actually its just an average café. They do all the lunch time bits you expect, sandwiches, burgers, jacket potatoes ect In fairness I did served my food pretty quick which is useful if your on a lunch break is good. Personally though I don’t really like the atmosphere. It kinda makes me feel like i’m eating in a functional canteen but its pretty good value and the food was nice. My jacket potato was crispy and fully loaded with a good size side salad.

They serve incredibly good milkshakes, and have a great lunch menu(closed in the evenings). Unfortunately with the new St Davids 2 store, the capitol centre has become rather dead, which has meant business in Café Carib has gone downhill– a real shame

The day I visited Café Caribe I thought the whole world ended. It was so quiet in the Capitol building and was the only one about to enjoy Caribes waitered café services. Luckily it wasn’t and I was served by a lovely lady. Being the morning I pushed the boat out and got a full English Breakfast and a cup of Rosie lea(‘tea’ for non Londoners). I can’t remember the exact cost, but it faired about £6−8. Expecting a heart attack inducing mound of sausages, bacon, hash browns, beans, toast etc I was left rather disappointed. Ok so I may live a couple of more days thanks to it not being any bigger, but for the money I felt I wasn’t getting much value. I can’t complain too much though as mentioned the service was good and once I found out I wasn’t the last human being on earth I saw the waitress talking to an elderly couple for along time, that always pleases little old sentimental me.
