Terrible experience. Not only was the food stone cold, inedible and WRONG, the attitude of the person I had to deal with was vile. I rang to inform them of the issues to see if anything could be done and within seconds I found myself asking him to stop shouting at me. My manner was polite but his was of a pig! Very rude and upsetting and the food was disgusting and inedible. Worst £40 spent EVER! Unfortunately they were too incompetent to include the dips we ordered as that would have helped mask the taste of the food. Not recommended at all!

Lamb kebab had freshly grilled lamb that was only cooked when I ordered it– how it should be. The lamb was tender and tasty but could have marinaded in a better/more flavourful sauce I think, but satisfied overall. Not as greasy and more flavourful than most.

Somewhat unimpressed. Ordered food at :12:09 and told to expect 12:55 delivery. Had to go home an hour and a half later and was told the delivery I had paid for turned up at my mates house 2 hours after I ordered!!! An hour I could accept but 2 hours to cook a bit of meat and throw it in a bag and deliver in central Cardiff is awfully poor. I shall not be using Chicago Bulls, or Just Eat, again! And I better get a refund!

This is one of my favourite take-away places in Cathays, not least because of the very wide range of food that you can get here. This is very impressive considering Chicago’s is one of the smallest kebab places in the area, but unlike other places there’s little to no seating in the shop itself so you’ll have to grab your order and leave. It’s also slightly round the corner and away from Salisbury Road proper so you may not notice it at first, but it’s definitely worth going to look for. Food-wise there’s all the usual stuff like chips and donner kebabs but you can also get more unusual stuff like shish kebabs and wraps. It’s also one of the few places that serves everything: good kebabs, good pizzas and good chicken meals as well as pies, battered sausages, cheesy chips and onion rings. Lots of Cathays places do several of these things but I’m pretty sure it’s only Chicago’s that does the whole lot. My personal recommendation is the cheesy chips, which unlike other places come with non-melted cheese so you can mix it in with the chips and make it last, rather than have it melted for you only to solidify all over the top layer of chips and never reach the ones on the bottom. The décor, as the name suggests, is all about basketball so it’s nice and colourful, and the back wall is covered with mirrored shards of glass set into the wall which looks really cool. The staff are great too and are generous with portions and quick to take your order even if it’s busy. All in all a cracking take-away so if you haven’t tried it yet then you definitely should.

Chicago Bulls takeaway is that trusty takeaway that you can always rely on to be open until the early hours. I remember leaving a club at 4am once, only to find Chicago Bulls actually open, now imagine how happy this made me. The cheesy chips were the best thing in the world — at that moment. i’m pretty sure from what I remember that they were really good, I’m sure even by the light of day. It does your greasy array of kebabs, burgers and chips — standard. It’s never too busy as there is so much competition for your trade in Cathays, due to it being the student homeland. It has no seating, so is very small and you may find yourself like I did, trying to sit all ladylike on the kerb outside. If I can hold out on losing my dignity until that moment, then I’m a happy lady.

Takeaway gluttons in Cathays are spoilt for choice along Wyeverne Road and Salisbury Road, but this is one of the long-time champs, with a side order of basketball obsession. It would be lying to say you’ll be eating your dinner every night from here, but it’s perfect for splurging those last few coins left as you stagger home from a night on the town. And a few coins are all you will require for a hearty burger. They really should be re-branded as Chicago Bulls 365, too, as it’s probably easier to list when it’s shut than open. Hazy memories from Cardiff years past include passing on December 25 only to see the lights on. A kebab at Christmas, anyone?

It seems a little bit odd to try suggest that there could be any variation in the quality of kebabs, chips and burgers. But there’s a lot of competiton for business in the ‘student ghetto’, as I’ve heard it called, of Cathays. Every night between 1am and 5am the streets are alive with drunken students trying desperately to make it home. Well, one such night we decided to try out Chicago Bulls. The result was wonderful stodge(exactly what we needed to soak up all that alcohol). The prices are standard — about £1.50 for a generous portion of chips plus extra for beans and cheese. The sauces are all free, something that we were extremely pleased about! The shop itself is quite small and you have to be careful leaning exhaustedly against the walls because there’s an… artistic… broken mirror and you WILL leave with sratched up arms. Other than that, the basketball team decorations provide interest to a distracted mind. Worth a visit, then, for a late night snack but not for a lunch.
