Old school pub full with cheap cheap beer. Pints were about £2! It’s been around since the 1600’s apparently and the building has lovely exposed beams. Nice staff as well.

I have been coming here for years… its one of those sneaky puss dens where you go away to hide from the bustling streets of Chester. I used to come here every dinner time while I did some archaeological dig in the park and it was fab. The dark beams and furniture give its unique sense of character. and it being Joseph Holt, the beer is dirt cheap… Expect to pay £1.82 for a pint of lager. BUT £5.10 for a large glass of red wine… so if you are a wine drinker… go somewhere else! If I had written a review of this place a couple of years ago I would have given it five stars… visiting this place recently I was a little disappointed… the beer and cider did not taste as good… even a little vinegary for the cider… hopefully it was just the barrel? The staff have all changed too. so I guess its strange losing the familiarity . Overall this place is a must… find it above Café Nero on the rows.

‘The Boot’ is a lovely quaint pub situated on the rows of Chesters main high street, like something from ‘Lord of the Rings’ entering the boot has a timeless feel to it. It also can be easy to relax, sit by the fire and forget time exists! Most of the drinks(probably all) are produced by Samuel Smiths brewery and are of very high quality at a reasonable price. The staff are welcoming, friendly and warm as are most of the patrons. Highly recommend visiting every time you are in Chester.

The Boot and the brewery tap are by far the best pubs in the city centre. Full of character and offering great ale they are are must see. It is like being transported Back in time. The staff are great and the beer is locally brewed

oh i do so like visiting the quient old bumpkin pub, it serves john willie lees, which always raises my special friends cecils eyebrow. it is so much better now that there is no smoke, even though i do enjoy a good chuff of cecils churchwarden from time to time, i never swallow, just exhale his dirty residue, but i digress. lovely bitter avaliable at sub £2 for a pint of broth, it is frequented by none other than chhristopher biggins on race days. A bit of news though it is an ideal pub to ohave liasons in, i spyed a few people leaving with other peoples partners. it is the type of pub which requires a straw hat to be worn on race days, just a tip for you there otherwise admittance cannot be guaranteed

The boot is great for a early evening pint or 2. Its a Samuel smith pub so you can only their beer there, which is ok and very cheap. Its a good place to be and full of character.

I have to visit the Boot every time I’m in Chester. A friendly atmosphere, always nice and cozy feel because of the warmth. The staff are always so polite and friendly. And best of all, a very good pint :)

It’s an old Sam Smiths boozer in the middle of Chester where you can get cheap pre race or pre dinner or pre lunchtime alcohol. This place is so authentically old that you really do feel a Blackadder esqe ghost is going to be behind you in the mirror when you go to the toilets. There is not much seating so be prepared to stand but it really is a lovely old tiny pub. I

Established in 1643, the year Newton was born, Ye Olde Boot Inn is an ancient drawer of a pub, slotted into the timber-framed buildings surrounding it. At some point or another it has been a Royalist meeting place, a Victorian brothel and a 1920’s gambling club. Not bad for such a small tavern. With its complete lack of music, quiz machines, fruit machines or drinks you’ve ever heard of, the pub really is a step back in time. You expect to see buccaneers clustered round the tables muttering darkly or a Navy official to be dropping the King’s shilling into flagons. Definitely worth a visit if you look for time travel in a pub, which I do.

Good Old little pub my husband and I call in here for a drink every time we go to Chester apparantely my husband tells me it is the cheapest pint in Chester, that must be worth a visit. We always take any visitors we have from abroad into this pub at it goes along way back in history and are visitors like anything like this and the added enjoyement of having a drink at the same time. They do do food have seen meals coming out of the kitchen all looks ok but cannot comment as never eaten here myself, it seems to be the pub all the locals decend on, probably as they know how cheap the beer is!

great little pub always busy with locals and it has a great range of different real ales. Well recommended. this pub is situated on the rows and can get quite busy from time to timme. however dont let this pub you off as the beer and food are fantastic. there is a huge choice of both and the food and the beer is very reasonably priced. worth a look if you have never been in before

This is a small traditional pub which derves great Samuel Smith’s bitter and beer at cheap prices. There is always a friendly atmosphere and the service is excellent.
