My boyfriend took me there as it’s one of his favourite pubs in Clapham. Apparently it has been newly refurbished and it does not look like the photos on here any more(I’m afraid I was a bit drunk so I didn’t take any myself) but the inside is pretty much all black with red tone lighting. The atmosphere reminded me more of Camden if I’m honest. On a Tuesday night it was half empty so there was plenty of room to sit down and have a pint and the man at the bar was quite friendly and polite. I particularly liked the music(another reason reminiscent of Camden) with alternative rock and indie songs(like Kasabian etc) playing while we were there. It reminded me of the kind of bars I would go to as a teenager and uni student. While I would have liked to see what it’s like on a Saturday night, I did enjoy my time there so I would gladly go back. I do think though it might be more fun with a bigger group of friends to go relax, drink and chat.

Always good for both some satisfying comfort fare or a cracking pint after work! The crowd is as diverse as their great selection of drinks. Conveniently located right next to Clapham North and the Overground station.

The Railway serves its purpose: a typical public house where people can gather after a long day and relax together. It’s at a prime location right next to the Overground stop, which makes it all the more enticing. There were actually a lot of taps dedicated to solid American craft brews, which surprised me. But of course you’re going to pay a premium price for them.

Went here for a roast with friends, about 8 or so of us. Friendly staff, helped us get a table together and made us feel at home. It was also quiz night, which made for a good time. They were also helpful with tasters, and as an American visiting, I’m only learning my way around English ales… they were helpful in that aspect as well.

Love this place! It doesn’t try hard, but just delivers a perfect blend between classy and local. Sunday dinners are great. If you want to be part of the true clapham north community, give it a try. Sometimes simplicity is just what you need! Kx

the roasts on a Sunday are the best I’ve had in London for a reasonable price. And the food in general is great here. The staff create a really friendly atmosphere too Always adding to the drinks selection, recently adding Brooklyn on draught

One of the better pubs around Clapham. They have a handful beer on taps and food that is decent but not fantastic. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff.

Cool vibe with dark wooden interiors. Hubby and I both had pints of beer with some interesting hummus dish(sweet potato and coriander). The servers were friendly as well as the bar staff, which hasn’t been super great at other places, so this is a thumbs up for a neighborhood pub to hang out at. PS though watch out for creepy french dudes who sit by themselves and try to talk to you.

This is a lovely place to come on a Sunday. I went for a Sunday roast yesterday. The portion is very substantial and really good value. I had the chicken which was nice and juicy and it had lots of gravy. I like the fact that it’s not really packed so you won’t feel crammed in. The bloody marys are really good too(but not as good as some other places in Clapham). They have friendly bar staff and it’s a very low key environment which I like.

Aah, I also used to live near this pub,(I know, I’ve covered almost all of Clapham — flats wise, except South). Really nice interiors, wooden, nice bar & staff, friendly, lively crowd, great for Friday(or any day) drinks. Alwayd enjoyed it here, I will have to make an effort to return! Recommend!

The nice thing about this bar, is there is plenty of seating, I’ve been here a few times during the week, and it’s always been a pleasent atmosphere. But… I do have to moan, when i’m spending nearly £5 for a glass of wine when i’m sure they only paid £2 for the entire bottle… please don’t measure the quantity. I’m sure it might even work better to my favour as I might get less without the measure. But it’s a peeve of mine when I pay a heap for a glass. Also, the bartender origionally poured me glasses of white when I ordered red. No big deal. But i watched her pour the white wine back into the bottle dripping everywhere, down her arm and back into the bottle. So I won’t be having white wine there. Doesn’t that taint the entire bottle? But then again, i believe in the 3-second rule and eat food from the floor. So who am I to make comment on it?

A very chillout brunch in this place with its huge windows and the sunlight coming right at us The tomato juice is a must try if you like the kind: seasoned with worcestershire sauce, tabasco, pepper, very spicy but excellent! The food is good & housemade, I had the pork sunday roast(£10.50 — not spectacular but special mention to the Yorkshire pudding –i’m a fan– from the oven, yum), my friend took the mushroom & onion tart which was great(£5.25 — LOT of caramelized onion, a winner) and took the homemade cheesecake whose texture looked amazing(didnt ask her if it was good, i had to leave) My friends stayed to play Monopoly, out of the many board games at disposition there…

The Skinny: Lovely place to grab some grub. It was our last two weeks in London and I was disappointed that we found out about this place too late. The Fat: Food is good and there’s some pretty good deals! The neighborhood is a bit quiet and dull but this place is worth the visit if you’re in the area!

Ahhh The Railway. This place has been a favourite of mine since I made the big move from Uni up to the big smoke. Unlike other establishments which, at the time, I would gush ‘I LOVETHISPLACE’ in an unknowing just-barely-graduated Unilocal, this one has stood the test of time and remains on my visiting list.(the victims inclue Infernos, Revolutions and The White House… I know I know…) The beer is good, the sailor jerrys is an ever-remaining ally and the upstairs space means you can get a big group of you together. I had leaving drinks here upon moving to warmer climes and upon my return to Clapham I made sure The Railway was the place I had some ‘welcome home’ drinks. Enough said.

Yea its mediocre — but I think a 2 star average is a bit harsh for the Railway. It serves beer, its warm, plays ok music, isn’t full of lunatics, sells passable food, and doesn’t smell. That for me is a solid 3 star. Compared to your average Wetherspoons this is heaven and its 72 virgins. They even have Tiger on tap, even if it was off when I went in last. I can think of much worse places to get a pint, but then again I am easily pleased. Definitely avoid if you are an ale drinker though.

This was a favourite of mine when I lived in the area, but I had no concept of real ale at the time. These days I would be unlikely to frequent the place, but a swift pint of lager for old time’s sake does no harm. They did have some cider in barrels behind the bar as part of some kind of festival mind you, so that is good! The pub’s name is obvious from the railway bridge next door. The layout is simple. There is a TV, but I’ve not seen it showing a match, just the scores(it’s not in the best position for watching a match anyway to be honest). I do like the random big metal fish on the wall outside. There are some tables outside too for people watching or for some sun.

The Railway in Clapham North is akin to the coffee shop in Friends, it is the perfect place to casually meet up with pals, grab a drink and catch up. Being Brits we do this over alcohol and not coffee beans, unless the beans are floating in a shot of sambuca… The Railway is a great little venue. It’s a bit too far away from the scummier pubs of Clapham Common to be bothered with idiots, the atmosphere is welcoming and the clientele is a mix of trendy locals and relaxed after work media types who’ve probably just escape the northern line. Great on a Sunday afternoon and during the week whilst evening can get busy but never irritating, unlike some other places nearby.

The Railway is a great local pub! The atmosphere and comfy couches create the perfect vibe for a few drinks on a Friday or Saturday night. Okay it’s pretty cool on other nights as well. I have to admit, I have wandered into the pub on a week day and curled up on a couch and enjoyed a glass of wine unwinding after a long day. I do like going to the Railway on a night out. There is a cool downstairs area but I always grab a table upstairs because it can get really crowded. This is the perfect pub if you want a bit of local Clapham North flavour! Plus the location is a great jumping off point for venturing out into Clapham or down to Brixton!

The Railway is a Clapham North locals’ favourite. Ask someone who likes it and lives near it where they live and they will certainly say Clapham North not simply Clapham. It’s a prideful community thing that North likes to disassociate itself from its Common neighbour, whilst keeping a safe distance from Stockwell too. It veers slightly more towards Brixton in its feel, which the Railway is an example of. Much more casual than your average Clapham haunt, the pub has a community charm that is evident instantly. Downstairs gets really busy at the weekends so try and nab yourself a seat upstairs. The staff are lovely too.

I’ve had many great experiences at The Railway. I used to be quite close to this cool little bar on Clapham High Street but even though I’ve now moved away, whenever I’m around Clapham, I always try and make an excuse to have a drink here. The best night I had here was a few years ago… A friend of mine was having a little birthday party upstairs and the room was really cool. I loved the big old couches and the atmosphere. Lots of windows looking out onto the twinkling, vibing streets of Clapham in this little cosy room in winter was so comforting — I would definitely recommend you try and get this little room if you’re having some sort of celebration. Downstairs is always really busy on the weekend. In the summer, there are benches dotted around the pub so you can enjoy a beer outside, albeit you’re right on the street but that doesn’t seem to matter. I’m all in favor of visiting this great little pub if you’re around Clapham. It’s not so much right in the centre of Clapham and more near Clapham North but still bustling and full of energy and good vibes…
