Delivery only — we paid a ton of money for 2 rolls that would cost about half the price at Wasabi(and better taste). I’m quite sad as I love sushi and I was excited to have a nearby location. Pass.

Been here twice now, will be going back again! Great food, nice atmosphere and really good location. Little bit pricey but well worth it!

What a great place! We came here for some sushi and were not disappointed. The place looks nice, and was quite busy. The sushi was nice and fresh, as were the gyoza. The staff were also really friendly. They have a great outdoor area by the street which also allows you to enjoy the busy streets. Definitely recommended.

I really, really wanted to love this. I had read a fair few positive reviews, granted not recent ones, and was really looking forward to our evening here. We booked for a Friday evening for a celebratory dinner. The evening started out with so much promise. The décor was lovely, with a lot of natural light in the room. At around 7pm the restaurant is fairly busy, with a great, buzzy atmosphere. For some reason on this evening the majority of the clientele were women. I’d read somewhere this is a good first date place, and a few couples were dotted in amongst the tables of groups of ladies. The cocktail menu has plenty of options to choose from, we ordered a couple which were served very creatively. It is always nice to see some unusual combinations on the non alcoholic cocktail list. For starters we had the soft shell crab tempura and agadashi tofu. Both were beautifully plated, and really flavoursome. This is about where the good part of the evening ended. The mains were a mixed seafood stew in a clay pot from the specials menu, and the sizzling teriyaki chicken from the main menu. If a dish is called sizzling I would generally expect a little bit of a sizzle when it comes out. Instead, what did appear was a dry chicken breast, on top of some wilted green veg, all surrounded by some extremely sweet, watery, oily teriyaki sauce. The stew, at first glance, looked like frozen seafood that had been thawed to nestle in a tasteless, watery soup. To make matters worse, the broccoli was wrapped in someone else’s hair. When we brought this to the waiters attention he took the dish away and arranged to have something new bought out. I had no choice but to finish the ever drying chicken while we waited for the other dish to arrive, once it did I spent the rest of the meal watching my partner eat. Service was ok, not amazing, just ok. The manager gave us the other dish on the house, which was a nice gesture, but didn’t really salvage what turned out to be a rather disastrous evening. For its reputation and price I expected far more from the food and the service. I do want to give them another chance, based purely on what I’ve read elsewhere, but only for the sushi. All in all, less Tsunami and more drizzle.

Sauces in grilled scallops, black cod and truffle rib-eye are just beautiful. Atmosphere is low lit so good choice for a date. Staff a bit unexperienced when being asked about dishes in the menu.

I’m torn as to how to write this review. The meal we had here improved substantially with each plate of food that arrived, but it started so poorly I was left a little disappointed. Good things: the sushi. Fresh as anything and delicious. In particular the smoked eel nigiri was a revelation, and looked beautiful. Spicy tuna maki was the best spicy tuna maki I’ve ever had — and I’ve had a lot(it’s practically obligatory to order it in the US). Tempura was good too, very light, although some vegetables work better than others. Cocktails were strong, maybe a little lacking in finesse. Then the bad. The ceviche. It was on the specials menu and we had it as a starter. The portion was tiny — I counted maybe 6 tiny pieces of what was probably octopus, but you wouldn’t know because the whole thing just tasted of burning hot chilli. And before anyone says anything about writing an unfair review — I brought our dissatisfaction to the waiter’s attention; he said he’d tell the chef. We heard nothing further from him, apart from to, bizarrely, try and sell us a dish of oysters for £15. I hate hard sell; I particularly hate it from someone we’d just told we were dissatisfied and did nothing about it. Service was otherwise good and attentive, and you can’t fault the surroundings — a telltale sign was that we were surrounded by people obviously on dates, it’s a place to impress someone for sure. But they charged us(£8.50!) for a terrible dish we had complained about, and the bill was pretty high. I’d come back for sushi, reluctantly!

I cannot recommend Tsunami highly enough. The food here is amazing. The cocktails are fantastic and the service is wonderful. I do think this is the best Japanese food in London. I haven’t been to Nobu but I have heard Tsunami compared very favourably to it and it is a lot cheaper as well. That said this will not be a cheap night out but you don’t get food like this on a budget. If you want cheap and cheerful then find somewhere else but if you are looking for something really special then you cannot go wrong. No matter where I move to in London I keep coming back here. This is where I come to celebrate birthdays, reunions and life. Tsunami is truly special. I’m not even sure where to start with the food but I don’t think I have ever had anything here I haven’t loved, from the Blackened Cod with Miso sauce(a personal favourite) to the seared beef salad, the sushi and tempura. Whatever you like, hot or cold, cooked or raw you will not be disappointed. The service is impeccable as well. The staff go out of their way to ensure you are having the most wonderful experience. I cannot praise them enough. As I have said Tsunami is a little pricey but it is the perfect venue for a special occasion and as I am writing this I am dreaming of my next visit!

I have been wanting to give this place a try for a long time due to the reviews. It is tucked away of a side street. Really nice food but pricey. I felt the value for money was not there as the plates are very very small for £7−11 each … Mains will run you £12−28. £4 for edamame is a bit pushing it for me. That 6USD for a small tiny bowl of green beans! I can make them at home for 50 cents. Anyways food was good can’t fault them on that.

Great spot! I actually tried the foie gras and unagi nigiri sushi and believe me — it’s to die for. so tasty! Also tried the quail egg shooters. I had once tried it before at a different restaurant and very much disliked it. This time, I rather enjoyed it! The sashimi had great sheen and flavour to it, which is much appreciated by the picky foodie. ;) Overall: The food is a bargain for the quality of food they serve and it’s very comfortable! I’d suggest making a reservation if you plan on visiting during the weekend, which is totally possible via Open Table with the Unilocal app. What are you waiting for? GO!

Dinner I liked an atmosphere. The service could have been better but it wasn’t bad as there are people who knows how to correct their mistake. There lots japanese stuffs in as a starter, but just only one plate — unagihira in main, which was disappointing. I had Agedashi tofu(deep fried tofu) and fried soft shell as main costed around £15 and unagihira. One thing I must mention is that they have non alcohol cocktail called Ryukyu sunset, the one from where I come from :) I thought I give 2, but the last one made me add another star, hence three stars.

This was our second visit to Tsunami — and our second time using a Living Social voucher there — £40 of food and drink for £20 — which is an amazing bargain, and gives me huge guilt about giving Tsunami a 4 star review. Because to get this quality of food for half price is a serious bargain. Going yesterday for a second time makes me angry with myself for not visiting more often. The only reason they are missing a star is that the dish we ordered as a main had run out by the time we ordered it. So we ordered a similar replacement. Unfortunately by the time they’d taken our replacement order that too had run out. Which meant that we spent a while waiting for our mains — but our waiter was very sweet and apologetic about it. The snow crab dumplings, exotic seaweed salad and our sashimi were all beautiful(especially the wasabi that came with the dumplings) but the real revelation on this visit was the unagi and foie gras nigir. BLISS. the foiegras had been grille on top of the unagi so was caramalising and melt in the mouth. The combination of flavours was beautiful and the texture was amazing. It was so good that we had to order another plate of it. I can’t recommend that dish highly enough — and Tsunami is a real treasure in Clapham.

Great Japanese food and not only is it high quality, but there’s some serious creativity that has gone into the menu. There are many interesting combinations of flavours, all presented wonderfully when they arrive at the table. Only gripe? Its slightly expensive if it was about 20−30% cheaper, that would be about the right price. But otherwise, can’t fault the food, drinks, the décor, or the service.

I’m always skeptical about going to other branches of the same restaurant. I really liked the one on Charlotte st. and dunno why I thought the Clapham one wouldn’t be as good but I was wrong. I first came here for a sushi making class. It was a lot of fun and really easy because they do all the prep for you. Highly recommend purchasing a class as a gift. Generally, all of the sushi is really good. I really enjoyed the lamb chops as a starter. I nearly picked up the bone to knaw on afterwards! Service was really attentive without it being too annoying.

LOVE this place! I’ve dined here on several occasions and the food is consistently good. Never had an issue with service here either. So far I’d say this has been the best sushi experience in London however I’m open to suggestions should you find otherwise. :) One of our favorite items is the grilled scallops. This gets 5 stars alone for it’s flaming presentation. I took a small video however I don’t think I can post that so visit the restaurant for yourself to experience it. We’ve tried several rolls on the menu and all have been quite good. Other than scallops in case those aren’t your thing go for the Chicken Gyoza or Spicy Edamame. I can also recommend the Sizzling Teriyaki and Wasabi Chicken mains. The dining room is warm and comfortable. I found the bar area very nice as we waited for a table. This is great for a date, dinner with friends or just a casual night our for dinner. Visit their website which is lovely by the way to see for yourself. There are two locations, Clapham which this review is based upon and West End where I’ve dined once and did not care for at all… but that’s for another review. This American Southerner in London gives Tsunami a graceful bow and says, y’all!

The décor was great, the service was really good but the food was just ok. The spicy edamame was good. Solid. The miso soup was super delicious. The sushi rolls on the other hand were bland, boring, and large pieces. I hate going to a place and having to cover my mouth while I eat. The normal rolls were present, like spicy crab, California roll, and dragon roll. They tasted fine, but there was nothing new or exciting about the food. The crab and salmon shu mai tasted mostly like salmon which makes me think they’re just trying to cut down on cost by adding the overpowering salmon. Made me feel like I got gipped. over all,… meh.

Delicious cocktails, tasty food and great value if you get there early enough! I looked up Tsunami after reading about it in TimeOut Magazine and a recommendation from a friend. Once I saw on their web-site that they have 20% off food before 7pm and 2 for 1 cocktails before 7:30pm I was sold! We were looking for a place to head to immediately after work so it was perfect. My friend arrived around 6:40 and I didn’t show up until about 5 minutes until 7, however the staff was friendly and told us we could take our time ordering. We started with the cocktails and they have a wonderful cocktail menu full of new and interesting combinations. If you ready my review on the W Hotel Leicester Square you’ll see I’m very particular about my cocktails! My friend had a lychee mojito which was delicious and sweet. I started with a drink called Umami, a delicious combination of gin, grapefruit, passion fruit and cardamom, it was strong but not overpowering. These are the types of cocktails that get your drunk without you even realizing it, FANTASTIC! As for food we decided to go for several different things. The seaweed salad was simple but had a delicious soy based sauce, the star of the starters was definitely the Salt & Chili Pepper Squid(aka calamari), it was perfectly cooked and came with a delicious wasabi mayonnaise. For a main we had various sushi rolls, sashimi and nigiri. The standout here was the lobster maki roll, definitely not traditional but delicious. Everything tasted very fresh and was very well presented. For our second round of cocktails my friend had the Umami since it had been so delicious and I moved on to a Sakura Sour, I was drawn in by the cherries scattered all through the description. This drink is probably one of the best drinks I’ve ever tried, THAT is a huge statement! It was a delicious blend of cherry flavors and a hennessy that is apparently also cherry flavored. The absolute best part was the fresh cherries muddled in the drink that were infused with the liquor. I want one right now … For dessert we had a Dark chocolate ginger pot served with green tea ice cream(picture attached). The chocolate was rich with the ginger giving a lovely spice. The green tea ice cream was the perfect accompaniment to mellow it all out. I don’t give a 5 star review lightly but overall I was extremely impressed with the drinks, food, atmosphere and service. The waiter was informative, responsive and friendly and the bartender so good I personally went up to him and told him so as we were leaving! All this for less than $ 60 including gratuity and after our 20% discount and 2 for 1 cocktails? I am DEFINITELY heading back and you should absolutely give it a try!

We have been fans of Tsunami for some time, but hadn’t dropped by the Clapham North location for quite a while. Knowing there is a 20% discount for pre 7pm arrivals we rushed to the door at 6:54pm, and while we bagged a table and some 2 for 1 cocktails(pre 7:30pm) our food order was post 7pm and as such no discount was offered, disappointing. The Umami Cocktails we tried were super, a fusion of Gin, Pineapple, Passion Fruit and Cardamom, a wonderful mix of east meets west, superb.(£7.50 for 2 in happy hour) We tried our favourite Snow Crab Shu Mai(£6.00) and were not disappointed. Equally impressive was the seafood salad and house special Albacore Tuna Sashimi Salad, although the portion size for the latter was questionable given its cost(£10.75). Seafood Tempura was good, but nothing special, and the Edamame occupied us between courses. We also tried the Salmon Skin Rolls, a snap at £4.10, and a more substantial dish compared to others. Finally we ended on the Gyoza dumpling dessert, a mix of banana nutella dumplings, pear & nuts, and green tea mousse, a great end to a faultless meal.

This place is seriously amazing, like proper super duper AMAZING! The sushi is ridiculously fresh, tasty and quality. The cocktails are lush. And the service was fabulous. The price therefore reflects the above! If you like Japanese food in the slightly, please check this place out. Go on, treat yourself Top Tips Cocktails — choose one which has ingredients you’ve never heard of Sushi Tempura — to die for Sashimi platter — it’s not cheap but go for the luxury option, it’s well worth it

My sister kindly took me here for my birthday on Saturday. I had been eyeing Tsunami as somewhere did innovative Japanese dishes. The restaurant is located a short stroll from Clapham North Tube station. The interior is definitely modern rather than traditional Japanese. We decided to forego our normal favourites and order dishes you wouldn’t normally find in other Japanese restaurants. I introduced my sister to grilled aubergine with sesame paste — this dish really elevates the humble aubergine to new heights. From the starter section, we also had scallops in spicy sauce, which arrived in its shell and on fire! After the flames subsided, the scallop was still sweet and soft and not overpowered by the mildly tangy sauce. Having had black cod with sweet miso at other Japanese places, I wanted to try the cod here. It was nice but perhaps I’m getting used to eating this now. From the sushi section, we had the Tsunami roll, which had good components but perhaps there were too many types of fish in the roll and it was hard to distinguish them. The unagi and foie nigiri were wonderful though — rich, unctuous and packed with umami punch. I had a nice virgin lychee mojito. Overall a lovely evening though the prices are at the high end.

I’m a big fan of Japanese food. It’s good for vegetarians and good for your heart. Also, tasty and wholesome. My favourite Japanese restaurant is Roka in Charlotte Street but I wanted to try Tsunami(also in Charlotte Street) having read good reviews. I went there yesterday for a business lunch. We were the first to arrive but the place filled up quickly and got quite buzzy but not so loud that you couldn’t follow the conversation. The service was pretty efficient although the whole place seemed sort of cramped and the service area was very small. The décor is impressive and makes the most of a long, narrow space. It was a very cold day and so I wanted something hot rather than sushi. I ordered tempura vegetables(nice but not special), another tempura thing(I forget which but very nice), a Salmon teriyaki(good) and a vegetable hotpot type of thing which really wasn’t pretty awful — tepid, flavourless, limp vegetables in a watery sauce. With rice, water, two coffees and service, this came to £40. I expect I would have spent more in Roka but the Robata grill there is excellent and the choice of warm and veggie dishes is much better. Also the space is brighter and more open. For what I got, I think it was a bit too much. Wagamama would have been better and a third of the price. Having said all that, the sushi plates that appeared on other tables looked very good and perhaps we would have had a better experience if we’d stuck to the speciality of the house.
