I have spent the last two years of my adolescence hanging out in this bar, it is the end of an evening occassion where everyone is overly friendly and happy. The weak and weepy sit outside on North Hill whilst the joyous gaiety continues inside. The alcohol flows deliciously without any of the vile drinking that you find elsewhere in Colchester, a glass is accidently smashed a cheerful banter arrises with cheerful «waheys». Toss the boss saves your pockets from emptying and the outside marquee allows conversation and the merging of people from all ages and groups. I cannot wait to return to Colchester for the atmosphere of that bar.

Twisters is without a doubt the best bar in Colchester. It has a mixture of customers from young indie scenesters to older folk. It always plays brilliant music, and has a dj on weekends playing all the alternative classics, from the cure to dizzee rascals. It’s open from 8 til usually about 3am so is a great place to go when the other bars have shut. Twisters has real character and you’re guaranteed to have a good time, whether you’re raving it up to the pixies or relaxing with a pint in the heated (lovely) smoking area.
Particularly recommended for thursday nights with the Toss the boss promotion (ooh, cheeky), where your drinks are half price depending on a coin flip.
