This is a Fullers House consequently its own ale should surpass other Pubs that guest London Pride. Unfortunately the Bitter is sour sometimes.

The Spread Eagle is another popular destination for workers and locals alike. The pub has a lovely ‘old’ feel to it and the dim lighting makes for a chilled quick drink with the mates. I believe they also cater for parties too so great for Christmas!

Love this pub, film nights, great food and Sunday quiz night make it a fun place to be. Try the pies they taste really good. This pub is great is to relax and catch up with friends in. They have recently added local theatre shows to the entertainment line up which has added a whole new dimension and supports local talent.

This place is like a private club and also kind of backstage of a theatre! I like everything here! There are a lot of historical pictures and documents hang on the wall. You really should try their pork sandwich! It’s delicious!

I love the Spread Eagle! Went several times while in the area, once for dinner. The seafood pie was great, I highly recommend it. FYI they close at 12:30 pm.

We went to the movie night last Monday and were really impressed — I had no idea how big this place is! The tucked away club room upstairs has a huge screen and projector and great sound system. There’s no interference from bar noise or people walking by due to its location(well, we could hear the bells from the clock tower next door, but sort of added to the ambience of our suspense movie). My husband and I were the only movie watchers; I don’t know if it’s always dead or just an unpopular movie(Straw Dogs during their Dustin Hoffman themed month). We had dinner while we watched and again was impressed with the quality, variety and service. Will definitely come back again to watch a flick.

This is a nice enough pub. The pies are good, a nice range of ales and a convenient outside area. Quite a lot of seating is available upstairs.

This is my «Cheers» pub whenever I’m in Croydon. I just take a spot and the best meal off the special gets sent my way by the lovely Janet and Robin. One time I got a steak pie and on another, seafood paella. Everyone is friendly and it’s in such a perfect location I could just walk to La Tasca, or Nando’s, and Tiger Tiger when I get bored of being comfy and being well taken care of at The Spreadeagle. Do they normally have karaōke here or is it exclusive for the staff after closing shop at midnight?

What can I say Having grown up from age 11 going to school in Croydon we were the cru that graduated from Black Sheep, Blue Orchid and Wig & Pen to Casa and Atlantis on the weekends… then Edwards before it got hood, Tiger Tiger wiping out all the competition… Anyway nowadays all I want is a boozer with friendly staff where u can meet for a chat, watch the footy and have a wide selection of dranks — job done, food is decent too(Fullers standard but the specials always have interesting ingredients too) having exclusive use of the members room also makes it a favourite — serious scheming has occured up in here!

This is a nice traditional pub, offering real ales, sports tv and the illusion of log fires. Located on the high street, it is a convenient place. It has some outdoor space in summer, which is ok. There are a wide selction of drinks, but don’t expect fancy cocktails. This is a place for the mature guest than those down the road at tiger-tiger.

The Spreadeagle is housed in what used to be a Natwest and the owners have done quite well in re-furbishing it to give it a classic feel — old wood, several nooks and crannies, panelling, etc. It’s more sedate than other pubs in the nearby area, and tends to attract an older crowd. It’s a bit pricier than other local pubs, but I think you pay for the package — a nicer atmosphere, less noise and crowding(as it’s quite spacious), and no trouble. In the summer, chairs and tables are set up on the street outside(there’s no beer garden), providing an opportunity to watch the world go by over a drink. The Spreadeagle offers a good range of Fullers ales and a pretty impressive menu: their speciality is pie and they have a real variety of pies on offer. The staff are also pleasant and it’s generally quite a comfortable environment. If you have to drink in the centre of Croydon, this would be my recommendation.

Croydon centre can be a bit of desert as far as pubs are concerned, with rather too many loud and laddish bars. The Spread Eagle is an exception: it’s a decent boozer, centrally placed along the High Street. It has the full range of Fuller’s real ales, with a reasonable range of sandwiches and other typical pub grub. Staff are friendly though could be a tad more efficient. Formerly a bank, the 1890’s exterior is a dignified example of ‘banker’s classical’ architecture, and the inside is spacious with wood panelling, high ceilings and an imposing staircase leading to an upstairs function-room. As you’d expect for a town centre pub, it has a wide range of clientele, though is reasonably quiet most lunchtimes. It has sports TV and is probably best avoided during big footie matches, but otherwise is a dependable venue. The ground floor is fully wheel-chair accessible.
