This branch of Beefeater is situated in a small area opposite the Royal Derby Hospital that also features an Aldi and a Premier Inn. A sizeable car park that contrary to the signs, as long as you are dining at the Beefeater you can have two free hours parking, more than long enough. Accessed by large double doors, passed a large Hello sign that looks like it is growing out of the wall, the restaurant itself is large and spacious with a central bar, an impressive fireplace, and various cow related products adorning the walls, including a Bulls head made out of straw. The central column next to our booth type table was full of herbs like Thyme and Rosemary, a nice touch. Other circular tables for groups and smaller ones for couples were available too. The menu itself was fairly vast, with a wide range of steaks, burgers, and other dishes like Piri-piri chicken, Caesar Salad and Quorn burger stacks, to name but a few. This was really a quick lunch prior to visiting hours at the hospital, so we just went for three mains. Between us we had the double chicken Sunday roast special, a portion of homemade tomato soup and the double burger stack with mushroom. The soup was perfect for a light snack, tasty and accompanied by a roll. The roast was large, coming with two generous chicken legs, mashed swede/potato, a Yorkshire Pudding and green beans. The burger was elegantly presented on a wooden board, coming with a small pot of infinite refill paprika dusted fries, and Kilner jar of coleslaw. Looked lovely, but slightly impractical to eat, so I de-constructed the burger to eat it: a tasty double burger with caramelised onions, a large meaty mushroom and cheese sauce, very nice. The fries did their best to escape the board though! A filling meal in spacious comfortable surroundings, just what we needed; the accompanying Lemon Sherbet drink, was very refreshing too.

Eaten here a couple of times and the food is excellent. The rump steaks are very tasty. I was not too impressed with the chicken burger but then chicken burger is not usually my dish. The chips are nice. The salads are the best I have tasted in any restaurant. Nice as a compliment to the dishes. They are usually served as part of most of the main dishes. Bottomless chips which is good(just keep asking for more) and drinks are reasonable. Friendly waitresses. Good service.

The Mallard(Beefeater) opposite Derby city hospital is great! A great restaurant — stylish and cosy with modern décor and offers nice leather booth seating, which I love! The staff are very friendly and always offer good service which is prompt and professional. The food is very tasty too — obviously Beefeater is all about the grill so the menu reflects this. The menu has special offers on too with 2, 3 courses for a certain amount! I would definately reccomend The Mallard!
