This pub is in Friargate on the mile stretch which is full of pubs and bars. The pub is actually really nice inside even though it looks so dated from the outside. It is quite spacious inside with a good size beer garden. It is a real ale pub with ale from the nearby Derby Brewery Company. The service was good with not much than a 2 minute wait to be served. They do serve food here but I’ve never eaten here. It is a good place to catch up as there is a chilled out vibe and no loud music that you can’t hear yourself think. Its a good local pub on the mile stretch which I’m sure I will visit again!

One person is really not enough to serve a Sunday evening crowd, especially when that person has no concept of who is next and serves people who arrived more than 5 minutes after you! Only when there was no-one else she could possibly find to serve did we finally get our hands on a beverage and it was a good one, Hop till you drop. A second beer was acquired much quicker but was the not quite so good Triple Hop. I know I prefer their other pub, though this one is quite nice so maybe the dreadful service has just irked me too much.

This place has had a real makeover since the days when it was just another stop on The Mile. Back then it was a dark and dingy pub with a pool table at the back. It has changed beyond recognition. Now it is a real ale pub and very light and modern and the outside seating area is second to none with lots of heating for them cool British evenings.

I was always sad that the old greyhound had closed, it was a place we would meet up before launching into the centre of town and as such holds a lot of fond memories… well, the bits I can remember! So it has now been refurbished and reopened by the derby brewery co., and they have made a pretty good job of it! It still feels like a proper pub, but with a modern edge. It serves great beers and the food is good pub fare, you won’t be drowned by banging music, which makes it a great place to meet with friends, have a laugh and get toasted on great ales. It fits a similar model to quite a few pubs I’ve been in that have been taken over by microbrewery’s, and if these are pubs of the future that’s fine by me. The bonus of the greyhound is its close enough to town to have a great lively feel, whilst it’s not quite a ‘boozer’ it is a pretty fine pub. Edit-could I copyright ‘pubs of the future’.

Sister pub to the Brewery Tap, with similar set up. Ales from the Derby Brewery Co. with other guest ales. Big courtyard area which will be good in the summer. A welcome addition to Derby.
