I am really a fan of The Poachers. I have been here several times with friends and it just has a cozy and relaxed atmosphere that is everything I want in a pub.
Everything I have eaten here has been spot on. You definitely arent sacrificing quality food for the pub atmosphere. Interestingly, they have a pretty large array of food choices outside the normal pub fare and their lunch specials are usually a steal compared to the quantity and quality you get. Also, if you can manage to save room, the sticky toffee pudding with custard is heavenly.
One of my favorite things about The Poachers is that it is far enough away from the center of Durham to avoid and of the university crowd. Every time I have been it seems to just be locals or others who have heard about the great food.
Cant wait to go back.
