Happened across BBC by accident. Wanted a particular bike and there were only two dealers that stocked it: one a large chain and the other this independent.
I prefer to support local independent businesses if the option exists.
Did I end up getting the bike I wanted? No.
DId I end up getting the bike I didn’t know I wanted? Yes.
Am I happy? Ecstatic.
These guys are enthusiasts and they’re not in the market to sell you bikes.
Well, they are, but it’s more important to them that you get the right bike.
That means a lot of chat, a few test rides and then some more chat before you make your decision.
Zero pressure. Maximum involvement. Seriously different from a big name chain that opened up in Glasgow city centre recently.
The first year’s servicing is free and if you buy a serious top-​end bike, it’s free forever. Can’t say better than that.
All price ranges and lifestyles catered for, no problem.
It’s a teensy shop and very popular. If you’re going on a weekend, be prepared to wait. There’s plenty to look at while you do though.

I have lived as a cyclist in a number of (bicycle loving) countries and without exaggeration this is by far the best bicycle repair/​bicycle shop I have encountered. The staff is incredibly helpful, knowledgeable and entirely made up of bicycle enthusiasts. They always give great, prudent advice and always suggest the best/​most inexpensive way to repair/​upgrade a bike even if they could easily sell you way more expensive part. This is the kind of professional honesty that’s hard to come by these days. Also, repairs are always completed incredibly quickly. Additionally, they always keep a great supply of (used) spare parts which come way cheaper than needing to order the official parts. In my case my saddle was stolen and even though it was a rare size they dove into their (used) spare parts and found an excellent (used) saddle my size that was less than half the size of the official spare saddle I would have needed to order otherwise. They truly deserve being voted one of the top bicycle/​repair shops in the UK. Without any doubt, next time I buy a new bicycle I would buy it here.
