I was a regular before they shut, Now I’m hearing unfavourable news of the new site opening. Hopefully my little tale will let those who missed out, know just what they missed out on. They once did a special called the«bluemin’ cheeky» This is an excerpt of my tribute to it. «The first bite just holds a gun upto your mouth and sprays any preconceived notions you had out the back of your head. It’s too much if I’m honest, but then the sweetness of the onion ring and the creamy brioche bun pull you back to life. The next bite or two are just deliciousness, but then it happens. You take a bite and the crystalline sweet bun gives way and the soft, textured, sinewy fillet hits you. That complex, chewy, medium rare steak flavour, followed by the subtle pang and sweetness of the onion ring, and then the instant mouthful of that juicy beef patty. Everything goes savoury for a moment. Then slowly the sweetness returns, then all the steak textures and flavours. They amalgamate on and around your tongue in just the most overwhelmingly pleasurable way. As you swallow, all that’s left is the silky aftertaste of the brioche bun. That, and a sense that everything will be okay.» Tad heavy on the superlatives? Yes. But I’ve eaten in some great places from LA to Sydney, with some spectacular highlights in Houston, and Paris. This place is right up there.

One last BMB review before they close this Sunday(get in fast people, you don’t want to miss out). Burger Meats Bun is closing on West Regent St and moving to a new location — as yet, unannounced. The West Regent St premises is being rebranded into Bó Kantina, Korean Seoul food and will open on 1 September(you bet I’ll be visiting on that day!). So I decided that Graeme and I needed to pay BMB one last visit before they close! I’ve apparently been to BMB20 times in the past 2ish years(thanks Unilocal check-ins for shaming me). I can honestly say in all those visits there has only been one time where the food has hit a bum note for me and when I gave them feedback about it they handled it brilliantly. Every other time has been exceptional, and last night was no different. I went for the hot chic burger(heaven) and we got Buffalo wings and cheese fries to share. I had never had the Buffalo wings before — they are pretty spicy but come with a delicious blue cheese sauce that balances the spice perfectly. The cheese fries were just how I like them, nice and cheesy, and my burger was perfect. I love that BMB burgers have a good bun to hold it all together and the burger retained its structural integrity while I was eating it — you can even put it down! We decided to get the mini doughnuts for one last dessert — I love these so much that I don’t even really think they need a sauce. As always, service was warm and friendly and they didn’t mind too much when I interrogated the staff about the rebrand — they gave nothing away! I’ll be sad to not have BMB in Glasgow for the next few months while they fit out their new place, but I’m sure Bó Kantina will be just as great!

As if this review update was ever going to be anything but another shiny five stars!!! I love everything about Burger Meats Bun — the food, the staff, the décor, the music, the atmosphere, the food, the food, the food… BMB never fails to make me make strange, involuntary noises while I’m shoving their creations in my face — I have been known to clap(yes, actually) when the food arrives and I also serenaded a Cluckin’ BLT once because I hadn’t had it in a while.(In front of the bf, he was not amused.) Menu-wise, things have changed somewhat since my last review — I still mourn the loss of the beautiful Burger ‘n’ Shake dessert(macaron made to look like a burger with a mini milkshake, so good but I guess it just wasn’t popular enough) but the doughnuts are still present and they are the absolute bomb. BMB now serves up Seasonal and Daily specials, the Seasonal in particular is a great idea as it gives you a bit longer to get it in your belly! The Short Rib special the other month was my very favourite thing I’ve ever eaten in Burger Meats Bun, and, quite possibly, EVER. They always surprise and delight me with their flavour combos and certainly know their stuff, in my opinion anyway! They now do wings which I’ve actually not tried yet, since I usually have my heart set on a particular burger and never usually have room for anything else savoury!(We all know there’s a separate stomach for sweet things…) They’ve added more veggie options, the Nae Sass(but still class) burger, and a Nae Bun option for those who fancy that.(I doubt I ever would cause I loooove their brioche buns, but I can definitely see the appeal!) There are various sides available depending on what they’re doing when you’re in — Rissole Pigs which were like pulled pork croquettes, the Davey Croquettes which are ham hough and cheese croquettes served with pickle mayo and sauerkraut(aw yeah) haggis popcorn and of course the mac nuggets. They make a nice addition to a meal but I do recommend sharing them, especially if you get chips as well, cause the portions are definitely generous! As far as beverages go, they always have some sort of West beer on tap which makes me very happy, and they’re more than willing to give you a sample of their draughts if you’re a bit unsure! Next on my list is to try a boozy milkshake as I think their caramel one would be magical with a bit of rum in it, but I’m always far too full for that! Burger Meats Bun is by no means the cheapest burger you will find in our fair city, but it is without a doubt my favourite place to go and I always think it’s well worth it! They also now have a loyalty card(used to be an app but they were having problems with it, so now it’s a paper version) and as I’ve been 8 times *cringes because that’s not even all the times I’ve been* next time I get a FREEBURGER! Woohoo!

I’ve tried hard to like Burger Meats Bun, and have visited 3 – 4 times, but it’s just not for me. The food is mostly excellent, but the service and too-small tables are just not appealing. Being served drinks in the same used bean cans that they store cutlery in was pretty gross. Also the donuts for dessert on this visit were clearly recycled — so stale and tasted faintly of chicken. We might have brought this to the attention of staff if they hadn’t been so keen to get us out of there. I won’t return in a hurry — there are better places to get a good burger in Glasgow. Disappointing.

One of the great things about Glasgow is the variety of restaurants that offer up takeaway options as well as sitting in dining. As a mum of a toddler, it’s not always practical to eat out in the evening and so, not wanting to miss out, we often bring the party to ours in carry out form. Having heard so many«out of this world» things about this burger joint, when the fridge was deemed empty last night, on the phone to them we got. We were duly told we were to order in person on-site, which was a bit more involved than we’d like in the parking up stakes given the idea was to swing by in the car, nip in, collect ready food & race home. But no matter — they’re worth it right? Right!!! The first thing that struck me about the menu was that it’s super basic(3 burger options plus one seasonal special) in comparison to other Glasgow independents. Fair enough I thought, perhaps it’s because what they do, they do AMAZINGLY well. With this in mind we ordered one«Smokin’ bacon» and«fiery» burger each plus a side of chips & cheese and another of thai spiced chips & cheese. Total cost £25, which is fairly typical of a gourmet burger experience in Glasgow. Off husband trotted to collect. Contrary to indications about waiting times on the phone, our order was turned around in 10 mins, which was good… But I can only assume this is why everything was such a horrid squelchy mess when we opened it at home. Surprisingly, this food did NOT travel well — and we’re talking a ten minute car journey home at most. I didn’t even take pictures as the chips were brown and cheese totally congealed like it had been sitting about for ages stodgifying. Horrid! The Thai spiced chips had interesting flavour and were prepared with freshly chopped chillies & spring onion, but again were soggy and past their best upon opening. The burgers themselves were alright, nice crunchy lettuce etc, but nothing particularly special. It took me a while to work out if there was infact bacon in my burger atall, which kinda sums it up. I’m really sad to have to say this about such a lauded Glasgow burger joint but this was a really disappointing outcome. I guess too much hype isn’t always a good thing when managing customer expectations. Either that or they need to look at takeaway output quality a little more closely. I doubt I will return to try the sit in experience(please don’t lynch me!)

Amazing delicious! I have been hearing about this place from a bunch of people. Finally made it there! And it was all I heard it to be! I got the portabella mushroom burger with a spicy bean patty on a brioche bun! So yummy! Love their BMB sauce which was on it. They also had special chips which were with Korean BBQ sauce and cheese and kimchi on them! My friend got them and really enjoyed it. I love me some kimchi but since I can eat the cheese i ordered a «dip» of kimchi to go with my normal salted chips… which were also yummy! Sounds like a super weird mix but it was super tasty! My friend had a banana flavoured milk shake that came in a cute milk bottle and I had a red beer that was on tap. Both delicious! Digged the décor, the industrial chairs and tables mixed with the cute fake grass with cute plastic animals lining the ledges =) . Great menu, something for anyone, and some adventurous choices! P. s. the deserts sounded great but was too full by the time I got there! I’ll share my chips next time so I can share a dessert too ;) Also lots of great missed drinks too!

Amazing. This place was so, so good and I’ll definitely be back. On a busy weekend afternoon we were seated promptly at a bar, which was fine. We ordered buffalo wings, which had the perfect amount of sauce, and Thai chilli cheese fries, which were probably the best part of the whole meal. I would return for these alone. Spicy and cheesey and definitely fresh cut fries(or chips, whatever you call them!). In terms of burgers, we had a veggie burger(which was not the best I’ve had, but this place is definitely about the meat), and the Burns supper burger which had a venison party and was topped with haggis and pickled turnip and sweet potato. I had a bite of this and it was fantastic! The interior was laid back and servers were very friendly. Another thing that I liked was that it was printed clearly where all of the meat and poultry being served came from. Sustainable sourcing is a big plus for me! Glasgow has(in my opinions) way too many burger places charging a lot for creative burgers. Burger Meats Bun is definitely doing it best, and is the one everyone should visit!

The daddy of Glasgow indie burger joints, Burger Meats Bun excels at what it does. The basement restaurant is compact and cool. I particularly love the astroturf fields which sit atop the bench seats at the windows, complete with cattle, pigs, tractor and«no petting» signs! On arrival, we were greeted by a smiling waitress who showed us to a table and told us the specials and the bar’s beer list. We were keen to try the short-rib special burger and a bunch of sides to share. The short-rib didn’t disappoint — super-tasty and pink inside, perfect. We also ordered the Big Cheese burger, Firey burger, haggis popcorn(breaded haggis balls), mac-nuggets(breaded mac n cheese parcels), Chilli Cheese fries and a tub of ‘slaw. To wash it down, Cromarty Happy Chappy all round, served in proper chunky dimply half-pint glasses. The USP which sets BMB apart is it’s awesome specials. The food arrived quite quickly and was every bit as awesome as we’d hoped. The bun remained intact throughout, and the proportion of ingredients struck the right balance. The highlight had to be the haggis popcorn — wonderfully peppery haggis from The Aberfoyle Butcher, where they also source their meat. If you’re having a Burns supper, I strongly recommend getting your haggis from here, it was just perfect. Silence descended as we tackled our table full of food. Only interrupted by oohs and aahs and other noises of pleasure and approval! My small gripe was that my Firey burger wasn’t noticeably firey, in fact, I couldn’t tell it apart from the Big Cheese, not sure what I paid extra for. Also the patties aren’t overly generous in size — quality over quantity is the rule here I guess. I’d also like the option of how well cooked my burger is done, perhaps food safety regulations are the reason this isn’t offered(although the short-rib burger was served medium, pink inside) Regardless, every last morsel was consumed and we left content and satisfied, and I imagine with a satisfied glow, ready to face the chilly evening. Great food, great service.

I’ve been planning on writing a review about Burger Meats Bun for a long time, having first visited months ago, but it always got put off for one reason or another. I went for the second time just last week and figured it was time to put pen to paper and get my review out there! When it first opened, Burger Meats Bun did extremely well and had a wave of positive reviews. Since then, a number of other burger chains and restaurants have been popping up across the city, all boasting some of the best burgers in the city, so it’s fair to say BMB has had to deal with a lot of competition. Despite this, Burger Meats Bun is flourishing and has even opened a second restaurant in Edinburgh. It seems to have a loyal following and customers that just keep coming back! My first impressions of the place were that the décor was nice and the place had a good feel to it. I was slightly surprised by how limited the menu was — there are really only 6 burgers to choose from, plus a couple of vegetarian options. On my first visit, I went for the special burger, which was a pulled pork in an Asian sauce. We also ordered a portion of the«Thai Chilli Cheese» fries because I had heard such good things about them. I loved the fact that the burgers came in paper bags — no plates or cutlery required! When I opened the paper up I had to admit my burger looked fantastic. The sauce was glossy and golden brown, but there were fresh, green vegetables that added a burst of colour. The taste overall was good, the pulled pork was great and the sauce had good Asian flavours but there was one particular flavour that was over-riding everything else. I’m still not sure what it was, maybe bamboo shoot, whatever it was, it was strong and a little overpowering. The fries were a little bit of a disappointment after having them hyped up so much. To me, they just seemed like chips covered in cheese and sweet chilli sauce, which may be a bit harsh, and people obviously like them, they just weren’t to my taste and not what I was expecting and I am not a fan of sweet chili sauce. On my most recent visit I decided to go for the Smokin’ Bacon burger; a beef patty topped with smoked bacon, Barwheys(??), spiced ketchup, BMB burger sauce and braised onions. Again it came wrapped in paper, which I still love, along with a side of Mac Nuggets. These are, in the plainest of terms, one of the unhealthiest sides I’ve ever come across — but nobody goes to a burger joint to eat healthy, do they? The Mac Nuggets are cubes of macaroni cheese which has been coated in breadcrumbs and fried, basically the things that heart attacks are made of. I was looking forward to tasting the burger as I wanted to compare it with other beef I’ve had from burger joints in the city. Unfortunately, on this occasion, service seemed quite slow and we ended up waiting quite a while for our burgers to arrive. When I opened it up I couldn’t believe the size of it — it was huge, and I wasn’t really sure how to go about eating it! I soldiered on, but only managed to get about half way through before admitting defeat. I’m sorry to say that in comparison to other burgers I’ve had, this really didn’t stand out all that much to me. The bacon was good, the sauce was good, but the meat didn’t have much of a wow factor. The Mac Nuggets were tasty morsels but they were hard to eat more than one or two of as they are quite heavy and I was glad that my dining partner was able to help me with them. I don’t feel like I would rush back to Burger Meats Bun, and I also don’t feel too guilty about saying so. Everyone has a different opinion when it comes to food, and the place already has a strong following and will continue to do well regardless of my personal views.

Still going really strong, and can easily compete with the(over) growing competition. I think the thing that wins it for me is the fact that the menu is so small, which means they can concentrate on getting the basics near perfect. The specials are fantastic and they make a real effort with them — there are some that go on rotation but they are all really good. I’ve also been there for one of the new three course events with the matching drinks, and although it looks pretty expensive at £37.50 for three courses it’s actually really good value: we had 5 different drinks as well as brilliant food — big slab of beef to start, a really good chicken burger and a lovely chocolate dessert. It’s definitely worth a try at least once. With all of the burger competition out there BMB is still making an effort and standing out. When the inevitable burger cull happens I’m sure this will survive!

I can’t explain enough how much I love this place. I thought I’d reviewed it before but apparently not. Although I’ve been a couple of times, when tonight the workmates(all hefty carnivores) and I decided a payday dinner was in store, I recommended BMB… and we were not let down. There’s been a recent influx of burger joints in Glasgow — and I can’t lie, as not a massive meat eater, I’m not the biggest fan of all this burger-ness. However. BMB is the one place which consistently proves to me why I’m wrong. I opted for the ever delicious Big Cheese done slightly well done — I can’t handle any pink — while my colleagues went for combos of bacon burgers or chicken burgers. Topped with some cheese chips and salted chips and we were happy campers. The guys I were with are loud by nature and the staff were so well accommodating of some giggly tipsy folk, while making us feel so very welcome as always. And as unofficial ‘Admin Manager’ — being the only girl sucks! — of the team, BMB helped me do good by them. I will definitely be back ASAP. Because awesome. Well done guys.

My favourite burger place in Glasgow without a doubt! The burgers are delicious– the meat is of excellent quality which really makes a difference. The cheese, the bacon– oh my! I cannot describe how good the toppings are. Drool. I would highly recommend the Thai Cheese Chilli chips– I usually just share a portion and they are fantastic! When I am feeling particularly hungry, I grab a portion of the wings– they are lovely! They usually have 3 standard flavours and often have a special too! To really make it a special visit, I recommend a dark & stormy cocktail– braw!

I went to Burger Meats Bun 3 times last year so I was due a return visit. Sadly, it was not as good as I remembered it. We arrived at about 2pm on a Wednesday lunchtime so it was quiet but that’s to be expected. We were sat right next to the door which was a bit annoying because there were only two other tables in — why use your coldest tables? The draft beer was not on for some reason. We ordered a chicken blt burger and a cheese burger. The chicken one had a few fatty, grissly bits but the beef one was nice. I just wasn’t overwhelmed.

Visited here today for a quick bite before a cinema trip. It’s surprisingly light for a pretty small, basement location. Staff were really friendly and service was fast. It pretty much filled right up within 10mins of our arrival, so yay us! I went for the cheese burger and salted fries. The burger was good, juicy and properly cooked. But I’ve had better. The fries however, were the best I’ve had in ages. I quite liked the no plates thing they have going on here — you’re given a roll of kitchen roll to sort out the inevitable mess. I’d prob give this a decent 3 stars, but the staff were great! I’ll def be back — chilli cheese chips are in my future…

Quick trip into Glasgow and looking for a quick meal before heading to my event. The BMB sign lit up the basement location, there seems to general trend for these Burger places to go underground. Maybe natural lighting is not a prerequisite for a decent burger. Quick service and the guy was taking me to the Bar location. I had no problem with this. The alternative of waiting and burning one of their two-tops for my solo self was not something I would impose on them. I was also impressed by the crowd in the place for a Tuesday night. I am not a fan of bar stools but these were reasonably comfortable. I was next tot he bar so getting my Happy Chappy from Cromarty quickly was not a surprise but I was pleased I was not abandoned which can happen when you are not sitting at a table. The burger and chips came and they were in a wrapper and a little bucket respectively. It just reflects the fast food nature of the place. I have not seen a burger of this quality wrapped in a grease-proof paper since I was travelling across the States and stopped at a really good drive through. Having a it served this way inside was fine but it was out of the ordinary. It reinforces that the BMB mission is Good Fast Food. I tried to load up Unilocal while after finishing but there was no wi-fi and the basement location meant no signal either. The bill did take a while and I surprised that this would not drop quicker, considering the fast nature of this place. If you are looking for someplace that can provide a quick burger for you or a group. I would check this out. If they are busy and cannot seat you right away, I would hit the numerous others in this Gourmet Burger category within easy walking distance.

Well, this update is long overdue. At BMB you’ll be greeted like an old friend, served up the most chin-drippingly juicy burgers and most likely leave converted to the BMB way, no sooner planning your next visit. The smokin’ bacon’s my thing. The yin to my yang. The peanut butter to my jelly. The burger to my bun, of course! This is what usually happens when I BMB. — I gaze longingly at the special; the other burgers too. Perhaps I should go for the special because it’s the special, and it’s special after all. But the smokin’ bacon forever held the key to my burger noms. — I could not tear myself away and regardless of my teetering with other options, I always wound up back with SB. And happily, of course! Olde Smokin’ B never lets me down. Today, I laid eyes on the board to see La Tortuga; beef patty, chorizo, mojo picon, toma raschera, chipotle mayo, spinach and tomato. Holy moly. My eyes lit up with glee. — If there’s a burger to steal my heart, it’s this one. Presented with the burger and promptly ripping the paper off to demolish it and… I AMINHEAVEN! So much flavour, so much juicy goodness. The quality is consistent across the board with these guys, it really is. Now I want to try all the burgers; I fear I’ve been missing out!

Can’t fault it and with the addition of West Breweries wonderful Munich Red this place just gets better and better. The specials board changes everyday, but I stuck with a Smokin Bacon this time around. A perfectly cooked burger, succulent and a hint of pink inside, crispy bacon and braised onions and their own special spiced ketchup, in a delicious brioche bun, it’s all so tasty! The rest of the food disappeared quickly too(there were four of us), with the confit chicken leg not quite to my partners tastebuds(texture rather than flavour) but didn’t stop her eating it all! Quite simply, get there!!!

To sit in or not to sit in? 5 stars all around for this basement burger joint! This was my second time I visited BMB and again it did not disappoint. On the first visit it was the first weekend it opened so I kinda expected that it would change. We were seated very quickly, staff chatted away giving recommendations and telling us how the first weekend was going. Our table setting was basic then out came a whole roll of kitchen towel! I started to think why on earth do I need a whole roll! The burgers arrived in good time I had the fiery. EPIC! Half way through I started to understand why I had a whole roll, very messy! But there is nothing worse than a dry burger is there? I left relatively happy with the new burger joint. As time has now past and with many places you would expect the standards to have slipped! Not a chance! The big cheese with a side of Seoul wings! Just too good! I’m not normally a fan of chicken wings so this is rare for me to rave about them! Although my last visit was take-out! It was just as awesome!

I’ve come here on several occasions now, I can see the hard work and pride these guys have put in when you see the end product. Burger meats bun is not a fancy place, burgers in a Macdonald’s style wrapper, with a roll of kitchen paper served on the side to clean any mess. The food here is good with the drinks on the little expensive side. Glasgow’s been behind the times with the precooked frozen burger for years I do wonder who originally thought of selling a half descent burger in Glasgow it seems as if there too many of these type of speciality burger bars popping up every week I’m surprised the market isn’t saturated. Overall I have enjoyed my experience coming here but why you ask a 3 star, this is not an original idea, no one here invented anything new its just burgers.
