Cake Clothing has been on Dumbarton Road in the West End for as long as I can remember, and must be the most laid back clothes shop in the city. Great for funky tees, jeans hoodies, and the like. The staff are relaxed and chatty too, definitely a plus. There’s often a sale on, so I like to pop in to expand my teeshirt collection particularly when they’re on two-for-one. But even the regular prices are okay, particularly my latest hoodie purchase. Not much else to add really, there’s usually good tunes playing, and some of the slogan tees will make you actual lol.(the Westlife one did for me anyway!) A great local business, check them out.

Packed with obscure t-shirts — guaranteed to attract a second glance — this little shop has long been kitten’ out the cool cats of Partick. «Styling the jilted generation since 1997», you can always rely on Cake to have an intriguing window display, showcasing a variety of designs. There’s just one problem. The price. I don’t claim to be a big connoisseur of fashion. Right now, for example, I’m wearing an old football top, some beat up jeans, and socks that appear to have scraped through the nuclear holocaust. Regardless, Protest Alaska boardpants were £110, while a Volcom ‘cheese hat’ came to 20 bangers. I do remember one top really catching my eye.. . but, lo and behold, I later found it in a charity for a couple of quid. Catriona makes another good point. Although the staff are friendly, the tiny floorplan means you’re never more than a metre or two apart. What was it Blind Melon said? Threeeee, is the magic number!

A cool shop for cool people, Cake Clothing is a proprietor of t-shirts I’m afraid I’m just not cool enough to pull off. That said, there’s no denying the products are well-made and well-designed, although you certainly pay for that. As Chris D says, Cakevery much appears to aim for the young professionals or overdraft-maxing student market. Not for me, but definitely brings something a bit different to this stretch of Dumbarton Road.

If there’s one thing I don’t need, it’s more t-shirts. If I see a funky band t-shirt or something. I just have to buy it. Started shopping online more, which involves more effort by removing my bank card from my wallet etc. Shops like this make impulse purchases difficult, with cool funky clothes for both guys and gals. If the goods were a wee bit cheaper, I would shop here more often. Alas, it is fairly expensive and so I can avoid it quite easily. A funky shop, with funky prices.

Although i always have a wee pop inside this place whenever i am passing i have to say i’ve never once bought anything and unless there is a generous sale on offer its fair to say i probably wont. With tons of cool gear, in particular a excellent range of alternative t shirt prints, this place will have its market but i’m jut not sure who it is. Priced outwith the regular student budget you feel that this place is aiming more at the trendy young professional, the ones who still have a disposable income(baby free) and haven’t started shopping at ASDA for comfortable combats and neutral coloured t shirts… kill me if you see me admiring a nice turtle neck which is reasonably priced… OK, what else, well the gals gear is pretty cool, but alas the same issues still stand… yes its cool, yes you would wear it and it would look cool, but… is it really worth the dosh? I like the resounding answer as of now would have to be no. sorry guys, great gear but just a little pricey for my liking.

Cake Clothing is a very trendy clothes boutique which would perhaps be more at home on Byres Road rather than Dumbarton Road. Although they have a nice selection of well made clothes — they’re a little too expensive for the student crowd that I assume that they’re aiming at. They have smaller little known labels in stock, which consists mainly of mini dresses/tunics plus knitwear for girls and skate-inspired gear for guys. They have loads of posters up for music gigs and local bands which creates a nice look. Overall, a cool shop, but overpriced. Look out for their sale!

I’ve been in here once, and it never really enticed me back. The atmosphere was quite uncomfortable, with the layout and the size that I was acutely aware of being the only person in the shop… and that I had been for a while. The clothes were nice — just not to my taste; the dresses a bit too cutesy and the rest a bit too skatery, and I left very soon after I arrived. Which also was a very uncomfortable experience — feeling like the shop owner’s eyes were following me sadly… Still, they do student discount, and the clothes looked well made, so I wouldn’t rule it out!
