Came in here a few weekends ago for Sunday lunch and have to say I was left quite impressed. This place has had a few owners over the years, and I’ve not been for quite a few years. Was a sunny Sunday and the outdoor area was very busy with people having drinks. Inside was a bit quieter(understandable with the rare sunshine). There’s a nice glass terrace area for seating and an indoor restaurant. On a Sunday they do a set menu, 2 courses at £10.95 which is great value. To start, I had the bruscetta, which was great. Tomatoes were fresh and the bread tasted freshly baked. For main, I had fish and chips which was superb. The batter on the fish was great, crispy and tasted lovely. Special mention to the chips which were twice cooked, and amazing! The service was attentive and friendly. Special menton to the house lager too, very tasty! Though you’re spoiled for choice for good restaurants in Bothwell, I’d highly reccomend paying a visit here. Great quality food and well priced.

This great Italian has opened, changed hands, changed names and re-opened over the last 10 years or so. I visited here on a whim one evening during the week to get a quick dinner and drink before heading to the theatre. The place was empty and this worried me as I wondered why a lovely restaurant like this had very free customers. The staff seated us in the conservatory area which was lovely and meant we could eat while having the sunshine on our faces. The staff were attentive and served my house white wine in a chilled glass– delicious! I started with a delicious duck and ham terrine, served with salad and a garlic bread– this was rich, melt in the mouth meat with a buttery garlic bread. Yum yum. I then had the chicken supreme served on chorizo risotto in a garlic and cream sauce. I was barely able to hold a conversation as the food was so tasty. The chorizo risotto was soft and salty with a tender piece of chicken resting on top. If I could have eaten it all over again I would have. I finished with the meringue and lemon curd shortbread. As you will see from my photos, this was beautifully decorated and one of the prettiest(and tastiest) desserts I have ever had the pleasure of eating. Now, you might you ask, how big a fortune did you have to spend on such a delicious 3 course meal? And I would answer, a mere £13.95! Yes, under £15 for one of the tastiest meals I have had outside of Glasgow. Grab yer coat and get a table here soon!

Strolling along Main Street in Bothwell on Sunday afternoon, we decided to try one of the restaurants that we hadn’t tried yet. Da Luciano’s was order of the day. It was really busy at the outside seating, people in groups and couples sipping wine in the sunshine. It really does look lovely, with full glass windows at the front, letting you have a peek at the simple and stylish décor inside before stepping foot in the door. Restaurants in Bothwell set a pretty high gauge for themselves as it is, simply by adorning this street so praised for its fantastic selection of culinary delights. I did not expect to be disappointed in the slightest. We were shown to our seats, a booth with windows overlooking the outside terrace. The menus are large, not too big to overwhelm but big enough to allow you the privilege of choice. We opted for the paper menu inside, comprised of two courses for £10.95. We ordered drinks, and after quite a long wait, they came. The waiters were in a real fluster, and seemed stressed and anxious, making us think that Sunday afternoons were usually a little quieter than this. My starter of bruschetta topped with tomato and corgette was lovely, although the bruschetta itself was over toasted and very difficult to cut into. I enjoyed something a little different though, as I usually go for prawns or deep fried mozzarella as a small plate. I then ordered the pasta amatriciana, a tomato based sauce with chilli, garlic and pancetta, something which is pretty staple in most Italian restaurants. My boyfriend went for the salmon. The wait for the mains was absolutely fine, but we had a problem. My boyfriends salmon, was actually seabass. When he informed the waiter of this, he simply said that the person taking our order should have said that the fish had changed. We were not offered a replacement, a sorry, or a change of dish. Luckily, he likes seabass(probably more than salmon!). However if I had known this dish was on the menu, I’d have ordered it too! Summing up my pasta dish in one word is easy; HOT! My eyes were watering and my chest was blotchy as I made my way through this large bowl of pasta absolutely heaving with chilli! I can’t even say if I enjoyed it because my taste-buds were obliterated by the end. The other flavours never stood a fighting chance. We decided that we’d leave it at that, asked for the bill, and left, without leaving a tip. I wasn’t that impressed. However, I believe that they can do better so I am willing to go back and try again, but it will take a lot for them to live up to the high standards set by their neighbours.
