I thank the social networking gods for connecting me to this lovely doughnut vendor! Been following Good Luck Kid for a while now through Instagram & am always drooling over their delicious photos of doughnuts… unfortunately I never had the chance to grab one since they don’t have a home location & are a pop up business. Luckily they were having a pop up at the newly opened Stan’s Café right down the street from my place, so I defo needed to try one(or two) doughnuts I’ve been dreaming of since the first time I saw Good Luck Kid’s page. Pop up started at 12 so naturally I strolled in with my bf at 12:05 and was greeted by the very nice creator of these scrumptious treats, Stacey Walton. I decided to get two kinds of doughnuts: the vanilla custard & a sea salt buttercream with dark chocolate. Both were delicious! I really enjoyed the vanilla custard and the doughnut pastry tasted freshly homemade but have to say the sea salt doughnut was the best doughnut I have ever eaten. The buttercream was a perfect combo with the dark chocolate! I will for sure dream about these amazing homemade creations until the next popup! Props to you Good Luck Kid… you’ve taken the doughnut to a whole new level.

Good Luck Kid still don’t have a permanent shop, so I’m so glad I made it along to Bread Meats Bread for their latest pop up. Stacey is lovely and her doughnuts are delish! Genuinely cannot decide whether I prefer the Peanut Butter custard(perfect sweet /savoury hit) or the morish Mixed Berry Jam. It doesn’t really bother me that I love them both :)

Firstly: Good Luck Kid at the moment are just a pop-up vendor, they don’t have a permanent location. But you can order doughnuts from them via their website, so check that out if you need a doughy fix! I swung past The Squid & the Whale on Sunday to get some doughnuts at their pop up. They selection was: mini raspberry jam, mini custard bites, full sized peanut butter and full sized vanilla custard. Prices are very reasonable for a handmade doughnut coming in at £1.50 for a large or £1.50 for two mini doughnuts. So, the taste test. The raspberry jam was my favourite — actually proper jam inside which was lovely, and you could even taste the wee seedy bits(in a good way). Delicious. Peanut butter was my next favourite, an interesting taste combination which was a little unusual but very tasty. It isn’t just peanut butter as a filling, it is mixed with something(possibly custard) to make it a smoother and more runny than peanut butter normally is. Finally, the mini custard was lovely and tasty and reminded me of a cream puff/profiterole. While I’ve ranked them in order of preference, that’s not to say they weren’t all really tasty and delicious. It’s awesome to see something new coming to Glasgow and it being executed so well — so I can’t wait to see where Good Luck Kid pop up next — and what flavours will feature!
