Went for a donut-y breakfast one morning with my partner. I’ve tried these donuts before given by a friend and I just had to get more! Their choice of donuts are amazing. I actually like them better than Krispy Kreme. The staff were super friendly and helpful. We decided to sit in. We ordered 6 donuts to share and a latte each(had to take one home, so filling). Everything was super yummy as expected. They also do more than just donuts which I am yet to try. The menu looked great so I need to go back :)

I like Nic’s, I really do. The variety of donuts, sandwiches and hotdogs they offer is trully amazing and I can’t help myself but want it all. But for me, the food I’ve actually gotten to try there so far didn’t live up to my expectations. On my first visit, I got the cheesy pig dog and a strawberry cheesecake donut. The hot dog looked pretty great with generous amount of bacon and cheese on top of it — but the taste left me kinda disappointed. I like when hot dogs taste at least a bit like actual meat, this one tasted like it’s only heard of it. It had kind of a foamy consistency too, which I wasn’t too fond of either. The cheese and bacon were good, but the whole dog lacked some interesting flavor, I think it could do with a bit seasoning at least. The donut was really good. The only downside I can think of was that the strawberry on top didn’t look very fresh, but otherwise I enjoyed the donut a lot and so I couldn’t wait to come back for more. I popped back in yesterday and got the two donuts that were specials of the week — the club tropicana and a chocolate/mint one. While I can’t say they were bad, they weren’t amazing either. They were both kinda dense and very sugary, which was the main flavor you could taste. I also got the LA club lite sandwich to takeaway, since I’ve heard some good things about their sandwiches and thought I should give it a try. It was pretty good, with lots of bacon and chicken and really yummy avocado. Unfortunatelly, they forgot to put mayo on it, so it was a bit dry, although the big amount of avocado sort of made up for that. But although my experience wasn’t so great so far, I feel kinda drawn to this place. And after reading Briony’s review, I kinda really want to try the vietnamese chicken twerker now. So I think I’ll be back fairly soon, hopefully I’ll be more lucky then!

This is my all-time favourite place to come for lunch. They have so many different things to choose from, ranging from baked potatoes(with a whole host of fillings) to taco bowls and grilled sandwiches. I’ve had all 3 and have always enjoyed my food here. Nic always has great soup on the go(I always go for lentil) and can add it to a sandwich(or baguette etc) only for an extra £1, which makes it worthwhile as it’s great for dipping in! The desserts here are also fantastic. They have the most amazing donuts, with lots of different flavours. They always look really pretty with cool designs and I love the mystery donut that gets revealed every week. I have also tried the Nutella crêpe in here, which was heavenly! Would throughly recommend this place for lunch or dessert. Only thing is that it can be mega busy at lunchtime, so make sure you time it well!

Part of a chain, albeit a small one, this place has a pretty extensive range of things aside from the doughnuts which seem to be its main selling point. The one I chose wasn’t exactly as moresish as expected but the smoothie I had with it was good and it might be worthwhile trying out one of those with a sandwich next time I’m in the area.

mmmm… crepes and baguettes and doughnuts! For all your personalised carby snack needs Nic’s is definately a good place to go in this area of Byres Road. They also do lighter foods like smoothies and sell taco bowls, nachos and bakes potatoes. Posh soft drink alert… they sell all those yummy American Arizona drinks(I tried iced tea/lemonade lower calorie combo, it’s delicious). I had a notion for something sweet but also was hungry for savoury so a crêpe filled this ‘need’ perfectly. A huge choice of fillings awaited, and my savoury crêpe was done to perfection. The décor of Nic’s in Byres Road is quite cool, they have tables with Glasgow murals on, and lots of New York pics on the walls. Never having been to New York I don’t know how authentic it really is, but I will definitely go back as I like their laid back style, and their wall of Nutella ;)

As foreshadowed in my previous review, I was always meaning to come back to Nic’s for a proper dine-in experience as I’d just had some donuts on the fly on my first visit. I visited for lunch this week and I was blown away by three words I’ve never heard in a sentence before: VIETNAMESECHICKENTWERKER. Yeh, it’s a ridiculous name for a sandwich and to be honest, I try to avoid saying the word«twerk» wherever possible. But the combination of peanut butter, roast chicken, avocado, coriander, lime salsa with mango sauce sounded just so. damn. good that I had to put my feelings aside and order it. You can have it as a bagel, panini, ciabatta or sandwich — I just went for plain white bread for mine. It’s £4.75 which I think is pretty reasonable for a sandwich these days. My sandwich arrived pretty quickly and looked pretty standard as a toasted sandwich. STOP! Please don’t judge this sandwich on the look, it is all about the taste. The combination of flavours is weird but it works perfectly. I would rate it up there with my top sandwiches of all time, it was THAT good. I don’t even really think I can go into too much detail about it because I am thisclose to getting in the car and going back to Nic’s for another one already. It’s really good. If you like the separate components that go into the sandwich them you really MUST try this sandwich. I now see lots of twerking in my future which I really didn’t expect to be how my 2016 was going to turn out. Note: they have a loo if you’re eating in at Nic’s. I always assumed they didn’t so I thought I’d mentioned.

I was in earlier today just looking for a coffee to go before I head to the botanic gardens. I was the only person standing at the counter and after fifteen minutes I wasn’t acknowledged by any of the four members of of staff on duty, a woman had just walked in and got served straight away that showed that there was a pecking order of friends and family first. Didn’t see a point in wasting my time any longer for service and took my business else where, this is a place that I would not recommend or probably come back to ever.

Every Friday my office gets donuts to go with the morning coffee. Most Friday’s those donuts come from Greggs. That kind of makes sense, I guess; Greggs serves a purpose, it’s fairly ubiquitous, guaranteeing almost everyone will pass a branch on the way to work and it’s cheap. Thing is, we deserve better than Greggs. In my heart I know this to be true. Greggs is just the lowest common denominator. For the past few months I’ve been walking past a place that looked like it could be better than Greggs. Today it was my turn to get the donuts. My turn, my rules. It was time to try Nic’s. I showed up early in the morning, they were open but still setting up. However, I was reassured that the donuts were ready, they just weren’t in the display cabinet yet. A staff member offered to make me up a couple of mixed cases when I displayed clear bewilderment and the huge range of flavours on offer. I was offered a coffee while I waited. It was smooth, hot and delicious. When I presented the donuts to my hungry co-workers I was hailed as a hero. They were sweet and soft and just perfect with the morning coffee. People went back for seconds. The other team looked over and were jealous of our superior snacks. These donuts made finishing off the week just that little bit easier. Sure, they’re a teeny bit pricier than Greggs, but at £12.99 for a box of 12 they hardly break the bank, and they’re just soooo much better. Judging from my visit to the store the hot dogs Nic’s sell also look pretty exciting. The staff are friendly, the store is nicely laid out and I don’t think you’d struggle for a table at lunch time. I’m a firm fan.

Sometimes you just need a «dog”(not to be confused with a dug) and only a Nic’s one will do. That was the story for me last Friday when I picked Trudie M up from her work and let her know we were going directly to the Nic’s on Byre’s Road. Being a big fan of the St Enoch location already I was confident that the high standard of tasty treats would be on offer again. This venue is much bigger with plenty of tables and chairs if you want to sit in. Décor is the same and fits with the branding that is now synonymous with the name. Service was friendly and quick although annoyingly the card machine was out of action. On offer is a variety of highly indulgent doughnuts, sandwiches and hot dogs all at very competitive prices. For example two huge dogs for around 8 quid. I went with the cheesy pig dog and it was layered with cheese and bacon. This is a massive heavy and tasty option. Well worth trying, but not for the faint hearted in terms of meat and cheese factor. The food here is great. I would pitch it as Glasgow«meats» America, perfect for filling lunches(or dinners) and will take away any hangover you might have in minutes.

Been a few times to Nic’s and each time I’ve left more impressed. First visit a few weeks back was purely a donut run. Picked up 24 for the office and they were bloody fantastic. I don’t think I’ve seen the office buzz so much about food. They not only looked great but were some of the tastiest donuts I’ve had. Next couple of visits were to try the sandwiches and maybe pick up a donut or three. First up was the BBQ pulled pork wrap which was very tasty even though I had to rush eating it. Second was a manwich on ciabatta with Swiss cheese and American mustard. Boy that was good but also very filling. Nic’s doesn’t have many seats so that could be an issue if you want to sit down and the only other niggle is that as the food is made to order it can take a wee while for your food to be ready but it’s well worth the wait. Just have a donut to pass the time!

This is the place to go for mega American deli style sandwiches that Joey Tribiani would be proud of and donuts to rival Krispy Kreme. They’ve had a branch on St Enoch Square for ages but I only found out about it recently when this branch opened. I decided to check it out and see why the original was so popular. I had a Snickers donut which was tasty, super sweet and had a good flavour of roasted peanuts. I’m not a huge fan of these crazy flavoured type of donuts(my favourite is a hot freshly fried sugar ring!) but I’ll be back to try their classic cinnamon which I think it would be perfect with coffee. I also had a Smokin’ Cuban sandwich minus the cranberrry and plus lettuce. It was the best sandwich I’ve had in a while! It comes with a huge amount of smoked ham, turkey, Swiss cheese, pickles and dijon mustard. This sandwich will definitely keep you full until dinner. The place itself has been done up with some Nic’s NYC Deli branding but is much the same as it was when it was Crêpe A Croissant. There are three tables for two, two tables for four and a bar that seats six. If you’re in a group it could be hard to get a seat and a wee bit cramped. It would be good to have some booths in here. I got my food to go and the girls behind the counter were super fast and friendly too even though they were pretty busy. I was almost put off going here by the titles of the sandwiches(Triple Bypass, Heart Stopper) but there are healthy options available if you can resist such temptations as donuts with Kinder hippos in the middle! The menu is really adaptable so you can order things the way you like and it’s great to be able to get a freshly made sandwich on Byres Road.

Mmmmmmm… Donuts! Couldn’t resist popping into Nic’s to sample some of the amazing donuts I’ve been hearing so much about. The selection is amazing! Was browsing through all the flavours on the board outside, thought I’d made my decisions then seen them, in all their glory, in the cabinet. Almost bought a box but settled on two individual donuts instead(£1.49 each). Whilst I was waiting to be served, I saw one of the girls in there make up an incredible looking sandwich. Will be back in to try one of these beauties. Noticed Tabasco, bacon, chicken, cheese and some salad. Who knows what else was in there, but I need it in my life. I went for the chocolate orange and snickers and took them away in some cute little bags with Nic’s Deli stickers on them. They were so tasty, we halved them and shared them. Nice and moist inside with generous toppings and amazing flavour. So glad Nic’s is open in the West End now, bring on the donut belly!

I stopped in here on a rainy afternoon looking to get a quick bite, and was excited to see that although they replaced Crêpe and Croissant they were still offering savory crepes to go. I ordered a marvellous mushroom, which took the indifferent staff three separate tries to make. Normally this wouldn’t have bothered me; I wasn’t in a rush and I know what it’s like to work somewhere that’s just opened up. However when I finally got the crêpe, it was totally inedible. A soggy pile of dough covered two barely melted slices of plasticky cheese and some off-tasting mushrooms from a tin. This might have been a one-off, but for £5.50 I won’t take the risk again!

I really want to love this shop, I’m American for crying out loud, but based on donuts alone, I’m not entirely impressed. I don’t really have much to base my love of donuts on here in the UK– I’ve only managed to score Krispie Kreme in London and there are no Dunkn’ Donuts around, so eating at Nic’s is a fairly new re-discovery of my love for donuts. I’ve been to the St. Enoch’s location before and bought a sandwich and a strawberry crème donut which was tasty enough. This trip to the newly opened Byres road, my friends and I bought 6 donuts(2 a piece) and sat in to stuff our faces with them. I am a sucker for anything with Nerds on them, so when I saw that one of the donuts had Nerds, I was all over it. What I failed to realise was that there were also millions(?) on them, which I’ve never had or heard of, so instead of there being loads of crunchy little nerds to offset the doughy donut, there were what tasted like stale millions ruining the Nerds flavour. The donut itself was ok. A bit dense for my liking, but it went down easy enough. For my second donut, I got the oreo cookie and peanut butter donut, which was a donut with chocolate icing(ganache I believe they called it) and a piece of oreo and peanut butter drizzled over it. Again, it was pretty dense, and the topping was just alright. Nothing to write home about and nothing to run back for, given they’re a bit steep when it comes to prices. Maybe it’s a good thing I don’t love these donuts as much as KK or DD, helps with not ruining my workouts and helps with not spending so much on something that doesn’t last long. Their food, from what I’ve tasted at St. Enoch is pretty tasty, my next trip though, I’m drying to try a hot dog. Me and hot dogs… I have no idea. I just always want one, but never give in.

OK, I’ll get this out of the way. Hotdogs are overrated. There I’ve said it. I don’t mind them, but they have to be about the worst designed food in the world when it comes to toppings, and even the best dogs still fall short on taste. In my opinion. Don’t hate me. Having visited the St. Enoch Square branch of NYC Deli, and having tried one of their hotdogs I will admit it was good but still, it was just a hotdog. Thankfully there is more, a LOT more, to this deli than just hotdogs, so when I heard they were opening up in Byres Road I knew one thing for certain; I’ll really need to get back to the gym! That said, there is another problem that Nic’s has, the menu all sounds so damn delicious it’s really hard to choose! Clare S and I popped in for a bite of dinner and I was so torn I ended up ordering two sandwiches and taking one home with me for the next day(and some doughnuts, more on them later). My dinner sandwich was the Heart Stopper, ordered on ciabatta, a wonderful pressed sandwich of BBQ pulled pork, coleslaw, sweet chilli and a potato scone wedged in there too. The pork was perfectly sticky and moreish and it soon vanished! My lunch sandwich I’m blaming on Debbie B, spotted as she walked past with a friend, she popped in and sung the virtues of the doughnuts(honestly, more on them soon!) and the Vietnamese Chicken Twerker. Reheated for my lunch the next day it was so tasty! The peanut butter and mashed avocado providing a lovely gooey paste for the tender roast chicken and a nice heat from the coriander and lime salsa. So, of the 17 pressed sandwich options I’ve had 2, only 15 to go! And yes, I will be trying the XXL which may well be my last ever review on Unilocal as it looks deliciously deadly! I mentioned doughnuts before and it’s only fair I finish this review by confirming that they are amazing. Better than those stodgy«crispy cream» ones I think, they manage to be both wonderfully decadent and light and fluffy at the same time. I’ve no idea how they do it but you have to try one(or three). Not sure on the bacon doughnut that was on special but hey, I’ll try anything with bacon on it! It’s a small place, but we managed to get a seat and the staff were friendly and not in any way enablers of the doughnut eating variety(we got one of the doughnuts on the house!). I think I will be back, especially as it’s on my route into Byres Road… I mean it’d be rude not to plan a few lunch sandwiches there, right?

I managed to go twice in one day. My first visit was purely on the spur of the moment. Sara was feeling poorly so i decided to stop in and buy her a donut as a wee treat. Opting for the snicker-nut with out reading any of the prior reviews was serendipitous as it went down a treat with Sara(i did manage to steal a bite and was very impressed). Given that Krispy Kreme are all the rage at the moment i am unsure as to why there aren’t more places like this and i can see myself working my way through the check list(yes, there is a check list) However my second visit didnt lead to as satisfying results. After salivating over the menu that i had took home earlier i decided to treat Sara and I to hot-dogs for dinner. Sara opted for the Pig-dog(Bacon and cheese) were as I went for the Bbq-dog(BBq sauce with sweet onions and dill pickle) Sara definitely got the better deal as the PD Tasted great but lacked a bit on construction(plus the buns split on both dogs during eating). Unfortunately i felt a bit disappointed in my choice as although it completely lived up to its name it was just a hot-dog with the above ingredients but what pained me most was the dill pickle, it was just that one whole dill pickle skewered on top on the dog, like luggage on a car. It just felt a bit lazy as you didn’t get to eat it as part of the dog. you kinda had to take a bit of the pickle then the dog to get the perfect bite. Will i go back? Yes, most definitely as apart from the massive range of donuts they also have a wide selection of sandwiches that i would like to try. I just don’t think i will be back quite as quick as i was today.

Two words: Snicker-Nut. Trust me, the snicker-nut doughnut. It will change your life. I was torn, I had read the amazing Debs M. review, and so when I walked past, drenched to the bone, I decided to let temptation get the better of me. The staff inside weren’t the friendliest of folk, but then she did recommend the Snicker-nut, and what a fantastic recommendation(if you like peanut butter). I wouldn’t mind trying the other ones, to be honest, and so I promise I will be back. I was a little rushed so I missed the opportunity to have a look at the food menu. When I was walking back to my flat, aware that the doughnut in my backpack would probably end up being squashed with the caramel drizzle all over the little bag, I began wondering whether I had made the right decision to spend £1.49 on a temptation. Afterall, it was only a doughnut. So, by the time I had fought my way through the rain and the wind, I had reduced my expectations for this doughnut completely. What a wonderful surprise it was therefore, to take a bite of the doughnut and ending up completely overwhelmed with its amazingness. So all I can say, Snicker-nut. Go.

I had visited the location at St. Enoch once before but hadn’t been impressed enough to go again. Despite this, so many people I know were so excited when the new one opened on my side of the city that I had to give this location a go. My first impression that it was much busier than I expected but I saw that as a good thing. As my friend and I stared at the menu, the person behind the counter asked us if we were sitting in. When we said yes we were given menus and told we could sit and come up to the counter to order. The menu has so many just delicious looking sandwiches. There are too many to list but they all looked delicious. I ended up getting a triple bypass, which is pulled BBQ pork, potato scone, black pudding, cole slaw, and chipotle sauce(or sweet chilli). My friend, being really into simple foods, was glad to be able to get a basic turkey sandwich with cheese. We grabbed our drinks(they have many nice nonstandard soda options) and sat down. It didn’t take long for our sandwiches to arrive and it was well worth it. The sandwiches came toasted on the bread we requested. The combination on my sandwich worked better than I had even hoped and it was large enough to feel like a meal. And at around £14 for the two of us, it was a really good bargain. We skipped out on the donuts this time, and we also skipped out on the warm drinks. The donuts looked good though and they had a peanut butter hot chocolate on the menu. I’m certainly looking forward to trying it though, as they are open until 11pm every night. The wide open hours are what takes this from what could have only been a 4 star review to 5 star. I look forward to trying more of the menu.

YEAH! This is the Nic’s I’ve been dreaming of! …well, technically the Nic’s I’ve been dreaming of would be across from/in my house, but this will definitely do for now! I’m a massive fan(see previous review of their St Enoch Square branch) but the only day I can make it to Nic’s is a Saturday due to their opening hours and me working relatively far away. So when I heard their new establishment would be open til 11pm, 7 days a week, I was pretty excited to say the least! It’s so great that the Nic’s concept has really taken off, especially since most new places in Glasgow seem to be massive chain burger joints these days!!! For those who might not be aware, Nic’s NYC Deli is just that. They serve glorious pressed sandwiches with delicious flavour combos, hot dogs, taco bowls and pancakes among other tasty offerings — like their amaaaazing doughnuts and American goodies such as Twinkies(which I definitely want to try at some point, just because!) This branch also has the extra addition of crepes(sweet and savoury!) so those who frequented this place as a Crêpe à Croissant can still get their fix. There’s always the worry that another branch won’t quite have the same feel as the one you’re used to, but I’m happy to report that this definitely isn’t the case with this one. I absolutely adore the décor, it’s really cool without looking like it’s trying too hard and the whole place looks fab! As for the food, it is as delicious as ever! The bf opted for a chili dog last night as he hadn’t tried their hot dogs at all yet, and he absolutely scarfed it down, totally loved it. I got their LA Club Lite(chicken, bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomatoes and either chipotle or dijon mayo) since I hadn’t had that one yet and I flipping love avocado and bacon together. It was brilliant, the bacon was done extremely well which I love, and their ciabatta bread is very tasty indeed. We were gonna get some doughnuts to take away, but our server offered us a free one each since they’ve just opened! Result! I’ve got a Snickernut sitting in its wee bag under my desk right now, but since it’s lunchtime I have a feeling it might disappear fairly soon… What more can I say? The staff are great, the food is great, the prices are great too — I think all in we paid about £12 for our food and a drink each which, for the quality and size of everything is pretty darn good! It’s extremely reassuring to know that if I feel the need for a Nic’s I can just pop along and get one… the downside being this might happen far too frequently from now on!!!
