Love the prawn toast and I always used to get the chicken chow mein which I is my favourite and we both loved the spicy chilli & salt ribs but Nik’s mains were never that good(he doesn’t like chow mein) so we tend to use another place now although it’s rare for us to have chinese anyway.

We had a takeaway from Ho Wah tonight. I thought we’d try something new to start, so ordered the Yuk Sung. I googled it since I had no idea what to expect, and it should be shredded pork or chicken with vegetables served in lettuce. The photos online look appetising. What I received was poor quality pre-cooked cheap chicken pieces and carrot swimming in a generic gloopy sauce. Disgusting. The sliced fillet steak with black pepper sauce caused further disappointment — chewy meat and further gloopy sauce. We had a chicken chow mein which as usual was very tasty indeed — the reason for returning to Ho Wah. Overall we were exceedingly disappointed.

Overly salty, not particularly tasty and chicken like sponge. Just moved to the area and will continue searching for a decent Chinese take-away.

Ho Wah has been the only Chinese restaurant in the South Side that I have ever bought take away from. It was my local 6 years ago and tho I’ve been outside of Shawlands for 5 years I’ve never found the need to call anywhere else. I am even willing to pay the little extra on delivery for the extra mileage knowing that the product will always satisfy. The service always seems busy whenever I call, so Ho Wah must have plenty of other fans too. That said, the call is always taken politely, even if the majority of the time it requires a brief hold before placing the order. The food is never delivered cold, whatever the waiting time. All in all, my loyalty is rewarded every time by reliably dependable tucker at a competitive price. Can’t really ask for more if you are going to be lazy enough to get someone bring you dinner!

Really nice place in an easy to find location. The staff are always very friendly and welcoming, the food is always great and they do a great pre theatre menu at a fantastic price.

The Ho Wah is my local Chinese: it is not really cheap, but does offer extras for larger orders, and has a range of unique dishes, mostly with a Thai flavour. The generic Chinese mains are all present and correct, if a little bland: it is worth being adventurous in your choices, as I have had one too many cashew and prawn specials that taste of the ingredients and little else. That said, there is nothing unpleasant on the menu: the service is rapid, even on a Saturday night and the quality of the meat is high: add a few starters and it really is filling. I keep going back there, mainly because it is close but also for the seaweed, which is perfect and the Thai dishes. The take away is off to one side: it isn’t the most attractive takeaway inside, and gets cold whenever the door opens. It does a brisk trade though, especially at the weekends: a testimony to its popularity and speedy ordering service.
