Such a great little local bookshop on Hyndland. I love frequenting this space and the staff are always helpful. They are usually well stocked of interesting finds inclusive of Scotland focused books.

Glasgow was really buzzing(and sizzling in 26C heat!) on the day of the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games, and so I decided to seek temporary refuge in the Hyndland Bookshop. The moment I stepped through the door, I was met with a friendly nod from the owner, and left in peace to browse the shelves. The shop is small, but the books are cleverly arranged so that you can spend some time drifting from shelf to table. There is a pretty extensive collection of poetry, fiction, and travel writing, with special emphasis on children’s books and local interest titles. It’s clear that the owner loves classic cinema, and I think this is what gives the shop its unique charm. There is an impressive dvd collection featuring well-known Hollywood films from the 40s and 50s, featuring the likes of Katherine Hepburn and Carey Grant. The prices are reasonable too. There was one big disappointment though… that I didn’t get to meet the resident friendly black Labrador(rumoured to fetch umbrellas for customers on rainy days). A twister ice-lolly would have been just the ticket!

This adorable little bookshop never fails to make me feel warm and fuzzy inside. Yes of course you can find a better selection of books in the likes of Waterstones and it’s nowhere near as cheap as Amazon but sometimes you want a more fulfilling book buying experience than these big guys can give you. David and Cathy Kinnear, the owners of Hyndland books are a lovely couple who are happy to order in any book which they don’t currently stock in their shop. They also have a gorgeous big black Labrador who loves to come up and say hello. He even came up to me with an umbrella in his mouth once when I went to leave the shop on a rainy day, very cute! The first time I visited this little haven I was pleasantly surprised to see a decent collection of World Cinema DVDs as well as some classic Hollywood 40s and 50s DVDs such as Some Like It Hot and An Affair to Remember. Mmmm Cary Grant… now there’s a real man

If you are a lover of literature like me, you will know that there is nothing better than a really good bookshop. You know the type, when the moment you step through the door you are greeted by a comfortable reader’s silence — and where you are left in peace to browse through shelves and shelves of paperback classics. Well, the Hyndland Bookshop is exactly the place you are looking for. For a slightly petite shop(sounds better than small, doesn’t it?!) this bookshop has an amazing selection of books. As well as the kind of book you will find at Richard and Judy’s Book Club — they also stock a very respectful selection of poetry, some inspiring travel books, interest books of almost every kind and prize winning literature. For those of you that prefer your entertainment in the form of newer technologies — the Hyndland Bookshop also have a sizable DVD collection. Now, you won’t find any of the latest blockbusters here. Instead you’ll find a gorgeous selection of classic films(think black and white and Marilyn Monroe) as well as some modern art house productions. Prices range from £5.99 to £12.99 — so definitely worth a look if you fancy a night in with a difference. And if this bookshop doesn’t have what you’re looking for? Never fear! They’ll order it in for you and even phone you to let you know that it’s arrived. Now that is service!

This is an excellent wee independent bookstore located on Hyndland Road. With a fine selection of books(i know!!, in a book shop! shocking!!), friendly staff and fairly reasonable prices, this is a nice place to go if your keen on handing your readies over to a independent store for your bound paper with words on it. This place will certainly appeal to locals or anybody who regularly hits some of the other wee boutiques in the area… you just wonder however how they can hope to compete with the fine range of books and excellently priced books at the Fopp store on Byres Road. Hey ho, i suppose its nice to see a new book store in this end of town, good one guys, i shall cross my fingers for you and wish you every success!
