Gian and I stopped by Kitchen Window for a snack last weekend! Quaint place ey! So, we’d stopped by to try out their coffee and have a wee snack, as we were starving from walking about Glasgow the whole day. I had a caffe latte and Gian had a soy cappuccino. First off, my caffe latte was decent. I’m not a fan of the size of the cup though because it was pretty big and that’s like a lot of milk, but still good! Wasn’t horrible or anything. Gian’s soy cappuccino, however, was a total disaster! Curdled, bitter and super acidic. TIPFORCAFES: if ya wanna have the option to serve coffee with soy milk, learn how to do it properly because NOBODY likes friggin tofu floating in their drink. Gian didn’t even finish his coffee and that is saying a lot! He never wastes food or drinks! The reason I’m giving Kitchen Window a 4 is because of their sandwiches. Yes. They are REALLY good. They make their own bread for sure because the baguettes they used were super soft and delicious! Gian ordered the prawn avocado sandwich while I had the halloumi and tomato. Daaaaaang I don’t say this much about sandwiches but theirs was goooooooood! I liked it a lot and it’s really good for a light meal! The ladies behind the counter were delightful too so no complaints about their service! And they have free wifi! Score! Conclusion, food and service: great. Normal coffee: ok, coffee with soy: no-no.

In an area where you are spoilt for choice on cafes, there’s a few places around here trying to be something they’re not. The Kitchen Window is my go to because it offers a no nonsense service at a good price. I normally nip across on my break just for a cup of tea and a scone. If you’re after something a bit more, there’s a nice looking selection of sandwiches, paninis and pies as well as tasty looking cakes which I am yet to try. The tea is as you’d expect, nothing controversial going on, just the way it should be. The scones are pretty memorable. As for the café itself, it’s a good size, nice décor, a few seats outside, good for people-watching, and the staff are always very friendly. Good job Kitchen Window.

I’m a fan of popping in here for a quick takeaway soy latte but the food looks fabulous. The danish is soooooooo excellent. I’m hopeful that we get a chance to eat here for lunch at some point. The place is cute(meaning small) but there is a small bar that you can eat at as well.

Love this place, freshly cooked home made food! Their cakes are yummy but I have to admit my weakness is the salad with Beetroot and walnuts. Very good post Gym! The seating is limited but if you can get to sit outside and watch Hyndland walk by you, it is the best seat in the house, they are a friendly bunch and the home made soup has rescued many a hangover. Prices are good as you get exactly what you pay for and it is worth every penny. They also do outside catering. Top wee place, nice people and good food

«Lovely cappuccino.» If you want a Hyndland coffee shop, then I’d choose this one over the others. Bit small and could really do with more seats.(Maybe moving the bar area back would allow more seats). As a café owner myself, one of my biggest mistakes was not having enough seats, but I’m us this will be sorted soon. Overall though, very positive, on the reasonably priced coffee at least. I’ve not sampled the food, but will do soon. I’ll maybe try a scone first, that looked pretty good and fairly priced. Or I’ll opt for lasagna? :) Visited May 2013 4 of 5 stars Value 4 of 5 stars Atmosphere 5 of 5 stars Service

Quick review as I’ve only popped in twice. It’s a tiny place but there is more seating upstairs so don’t be put off if it looks full. The coffee is good, as is the selection of made on the premise food, the beetroot and chocolate cake I’ve had there is heavenly! Staff are friendly and cheerful, and can’t say much more until I’ve eaten there properly. Ohh yeah, and yes it is an ‘open window’ type place, but not quite sure that, as per another review, that’s any reason to mark it down. Don’t ALL cafes/restaurants like to be seen to have customers?

So I thought I’d go back, and elaborate on my slightly quick review earlier this month. I have a bit of disdain for cafes/restaurants in the west end that have open windows, as the business model seems to be, charge the earth, don’t worry about quality, as long as you can be seen to be eating there, see for reference epicures of Hyndland, little Italy, and jelly hill, although jelly hill is actually ok. the other two are meh at best.(sacrilege I hear you cry, little Italy? how dare you? well in my experience, I’ve only ever had terrible service there, and that counts for a lot, hence I refuse to entertain them anymore) anyway, I went back to kitchen window and decided to have one of their staples, a lasagne, and it was more than competent. so the food is ok if not terribly exciting or interesting. but it’ll still succeed on the basis of people/ponces in the window…
