I popped in here this lunch time, I ordered a portion of Potato Fritters, which I hadn’t had in a long time. I took them back to work, but i agree with most reviews here the grease from them coated my mouth something awful. But I do like the shop, the staff are friendly enough, it’s handy and it’s there when you need a quick lunchtime treat.

I don’t normally consider the chippie part of my normal repertoire, but I had a craving for fish and chips. I would have preferred the Wee Hurrie, but it’s slightly out of the way… in Troon. While this somewhat filled the void, it also coated my mouth in a film of grease(exceedingly greasy compared to others I’ve had). I stopped after a few bites, and set the rest aside. For a fish supper and drink it was just over £6, but I would have rather spent that money elsewhere and saved myself from the pool of grease and fish bones. It’s a bit of a shame, because it seems quite popular in the area and is always busy.

One of my friends used to live right round the corner from Mr V’s so out of convenience we usually went here for a chippy if we were having a night in at hers. It was a skilful procedure polishing it off without her tiny dog trying to snatch some chips when we weren’t looking. As far as chippies go I would say this one is rather average, nothing too great but certainly more than edible so if you’re hungry then this is a pretty good shout. They do a whole range of suppers as well as pizzas and kebabs too, the prices are rather reasonable and the staff are always very friendly. To sum this place up I guess I would say it was reasonable.

Sadly, this is no longer my nearest chippy. Though, I do on occasion make a point of going out of my way in order to get a chip supper out of here! The staff and fast, efficient and on the whole, very friendly, for takeaway servers. Meanwhile, the opening hours are good(none of this silly closing between lunchtime and dinnertime nonsense), the venue is clean and tidy and the food is just what a chippy should serve up. The chips are always reasonably fresh, well cut and cooked just right. As mentioned by Gareth, the fish is not the best, however, there is a wide enough selection to mean that another option can easily be found. Perhaps, a freshly oven cooked pizza? Mmmm…

After a while, it becomes a struggle to distinguish one takeaway from another. Like the others, Mr V does the kebab, the chips in brown paper, thick cut, plus fish and other delights. I did become a bit of a regular here, on the way to a tutoring gig last summer, and it is something to get me to go back to a chip shop. They are not too greasy, well cut and tasty: the fish isn’t so great, but passable. It is very busy in the evenings and afternoons, though– a good sign– and the staff are efficient and fast.

I used to come here now and then pretty much by default as it was the only chippy in the area. The«Mr V’s» name makes it sound a bit more interesting than it is, which is basically a chip shop that also does kebabs and pizzas. As you’ll probably have guessed, since they have cast their net far and wide in the fast food stakes, the quality isn’t mindblowing, but both a king rib supper and a donner taste as delightful as you could hope for so I’ve no complaints.
