Seafood, eat food. It is difficult to describe the rapture of dipping your bread into leftover musselsauce after you’ve shoved half a kilo of mollusc into your gob. I’d heartily recommend this joint for bargain seafood. The staff are lovely and the food is top notch. Be sure to order with blue cheese sauce for best results. Bravo!

They were very accomodating to our large group where everyone came in at different times. We tried all sorts of starters and I enjoyed them all! My main dish of prawns with noodles was one of the best courses I had in Scotland. Highly recommend this place to any seafood lovers!

Fabulously fresh and fishy fare: faultless. One thing: when I ordered two starters, one as my starter and one as my main course I was informed by the waitperson that this was not a problem; quite right, it was not a problem, it was my preference.

Met Herself in here for a wee pre-Christmas lunch date. I’ve been in a few times before, but only for lunch so I don’t consider myself to be fully indulged in the seafood cornucopia that is Mussel Inn. As it was only lunch I restrained myself and opted for a starter of the fish cakes with a side order of chips, which was just as well as the fish cakes were a tad on the small side. This was mildly disappointing at the time, but actually they would have been fine as a starter if you were moving on to something more substantial. I was glad I’d ordered the chips as well though. Herself as usual went for the eponymous bivalve molluscs that are the house speciality. These were quite on the large side, and disappeared before I had a chance to get a picture of the bowl so must have been good! An Americano coffee to finish was of good strength and taste, even if it was only just over half a cup; presumably they were leaving a gap for the milk that I didn’t ask for and don’t want. Still, I guess if they’d topped it up with water it would be weaker and that would be almost as big a sin. The restaurant is quite large and was pretty empty on this particular lunchtime. They have a mezzanine area upstairs that you can rent for private groups, which would be great if you had enough folk who were seafood lovers.

My biggest disappointment here is the service. I dined alone, in the early evening hours and was virtually invisible for at least 15 minutes, the first time! I went back on AUG12 at 730p and did not get asked for anything until 750 and that is after I mentioned it to someone on my way to the restroom. As for the food, I focused on the mussels and seafood chowder.. I ordered two different types of mussels on my first visit(shallot and Morrocan) and I have to say, they were the freshest I have ever had and quite inexpensive. I had the Natural on this visit(Aug12) and they were also very good, fresh, but I prefer one of the other options of seasoning. I can’t say enough about the warm, fresh, bread that just sent me to new highs, since bread has become a rare treat for me. I will definitely think about coming back here for a third time, there are many other items on the menu, and the daily specials on the chalkboard are a good addition. I just wish they would be better at promptness of at least offering you a beverage sooner than later. This place would easily get 4 – 5 stars if they would at least acknowledge your existence within the first 5 – 8 minutes. At least say«I’ll be with you shortly». One other server did show up, after I received my meal and seemed to work in the same area I was seated in and she was fantastic! I guess it’s hit and miss.

Can’t beat a quick fixed lunch deal at Mussel Inn. Half a kilo of mussels, lots of fresh bread and butter, chips and a drink for £7.95. Definitely recommend the Moroccan sauce.

Came in on a Wednesday afternoon after strolling down Buchanan Street. I ordered the lunch special And got mussels, a salad, and a drink all for £7.95. My server accidentally brought me chips so I stole one just to give it a try. Eh, was happy to have ordered the salad packed with cherry tomatoes, peppers, and red onions. Mussels were steamed perfectly, no over cooked rubbery bits. They generously give you a basket of bread for your soaking pleasure.

I came here for my 21st birthday meal and I wasn’t disappointed. The restaurant is lovely and airy inside, although it was slightly lacking in atmosphere when I visited(to be fair it was a Tuesday night). What it lacked in ambiance, however, it certainly made up for with the food. The menu is great, with a large choice of seafood dishes as well as a few vegetarian and meat options. I wanted to try everything so it took a while to decide what to have. To start I shared a kilo of Moroccan mussels. These were delicious, with plenty of bread provided to mop up the cooking juices. To follow I chose one of the specials from the board. I had sea bass with chorizo, fried potatoes and feta cheese. It is not a combination I would have put together myself but it was delicious. The fish was perfectly cooked and the addition of chorizo(one of my favourite foods) just made it even better. I would definitely make another trip back — there are so many dishes on the menu I need to try.

I decided to book this on a Friday afternoon for an impromptu dinner after work and I’m very pleased I did! Good old fashioned service with a smile is always a bonus, and the staff were friendly and attentive. I had the fish cakes to start(rally tasty) with the chefs platter to follow(8 mussells and 3 queen scallops in choice of sauce) to follow;my husband had the chowder(I had to try it, lovely creamy texture with a generous portion of bread) and the queen scallops. We polished that off with a bottle of wine, enjoying the relaxed atmosphere and planning our next excuse to return for another lovely meal! The bill was £44 including the bottle of white, but they also have a pre theatre menu which would suit a pre payday meal out! They also do a lunch menu, and I’ll probably be trying that soon too.

Popped in last Friday for a wee change from Burgers and Curries :-D Having not been to the Mussel Inn for a number of years(had curried risotto with pan fried halibut. mmmm!). I was quite looking forward to seeing what was to be had. As it was just after work, pre-theatre options were available. I went for fish cakes(off a la carte) and fish and chips to satisfy my current craving. Fi had a queenie scallop starter and King Prawn stir fry thingie lol. Bread came over warm, nice — but not when butter is hard out of the fridge. Also, it was just bog standard costco baguette with no flavour whatsoever. Starters came & the fish cakes were teeny… like really teeny! Flavour was meh. nothing special and for £5.90, you’d expect more and better. Fiona’s scallops was a better starter for sure. Mains followed pretty quickly after & whilst Fiona had another decent dish, the fish and chips were simply awful. Fish was rectangular in shape with a limp eggy thin batter, not dissimilar to a battered sausage supper from a chippy. The chips were cheap frozen pale examples. The worst part though? The taste of the fish… Knew there was something wrong & couldn’t put my finger on it until I returned it… Server had neglected to mention it was Coley, not cod or haddock. I personally, hate coley… Offered me something else in place, but Fi was halfway through meal & the taste had put me off my appetite. Whilst they took the fish off the bill, they missed the point by charging full whack for everything else, not realising this was a meal out for two people & an experience is just as important as the food. £35 not well spent going to McDonalds afterwards! All in all, not quite what it used to be & I’d work harder on informing customers on what is being served, caring more about ingredients & giving customers a dining ‘experience’. Sorry to say, I won’t be back again after this experience. You don’t gotta eat here… :-D

Amazing mussels! I’ve tried the white wine, leek, and pepper/pesto ones, and all were very good albeit quite different. The bread they serve tastes very fresh and smells amazing. The garlic baguette is also nice. The mussels are very good value for money; can’t quite say the same for the starters and other main courses… The scallops portion was pretty small and didn’t taste that exciting; a friend had the prawn cocktail and it was a clear case of looks over substance. The décor of the restaurant is very nice and clean though; and the service was very nice if a bit detached and busy-seeming. In short, I’d recommend it for the mussels!

+ Bright and spacious. ½ kilo of mussels is enough on its own but the side salads are a lovely addition — crisp and tasty. The mussels themselves are as fresh as you’d hope. Good for a quick bite after work. — Lacks atmosphere, even when it’s busy.

I loved the mussel in, the portions are huge(I only had a half kilo and was stuffed!) the sauce on my mussels was delish and we had garlic bread and chips to mop up, the only complaint is the wine measures are a bit wee. Staff were really friendly and efficient and the food was piping hot when it came to he table.

We went for the pre-theatre menu, which is very good value for money. Nice airy surroundings with an open kitchen. To start, the smoked salmon spring rolls were nice, but the creamy seafood chowder was amazing! For the main course the fish and chips in beer batter was wonderful and the half Kilo pot of mussels Moroccan were lovely: very nice sauce which didn’t mask the taste or freshness of the mussels. Lovely bread. Will definitely be going back for a la carte.

I really enjoyed my visit to Mussel Inn. It has a very nice atmosphere, kinda homey yet modern and clean looking. The room is open-plan and airy. They have a strong yet quite small menu, specialising of course in seafood and mussels in particular. I got the the mussels in Moroccan sauce and it was amazing! Nicely spicy and the quality of the mussels were very good. The wine selection was also excellent and I was pleased with the food service. I would definitely go again.

We were in Glasgow for a wedding and the bride recommended this place. Was she spot on! I split a smoked salmon caesar, which was simple and perfectly outstanding at the same time. It was not your lox and bagels salmon but a dry smoke. Most lovely. Then we split a vat of the wine, leek, dijon cream mussels. I have been to PEI and thought those to be the best mussels around, but this little tender pieces of divineness were perfect. They have about 8 flavor combos to choose from. My friends hubby had the blue cheese and another friend had the Chillies, garlic, ginger, coriander and cumin. We also split the scallops wrapped in pancetta, served on sautéed new potatoes, red peppers, spinach and finished with a yellow pepper dressing. The scallops were brilliant but the veg surrounding them stole the show a bit. Dessert you ask, we split a chocolate crème brûlée which seemed more like a pot de crème but delicious not matter what you call it. But the most fun dessert of the night was the vanilla ice cream served with a shot of fine whiskey and a shot of espresso. Yum Yum and more to the point a fine steal of an idea for entertaining at home. A easy, delicious, interactive dessert. All in all, don’t miss the Mussel Inn when in Glasgow. Lunch, Dinner whenever you can get there, just get there.

I’ve been here loads of times and have never been disappointed, until yesterday that is. It was really busy and we had to wait for a table, which was not problem and it was ony 5 mins or so. We ordered the lunchtime quickie, and whilst it was nice not up to normal standards. The mussels were really small and some were quite dry and overcooked. We each found several beards attached which indicates they had not been cleaned very well. The portion of chips had a few nice chips at the top of the bowl but once they had gone it was 2/3rds full of the little scraps that usually people leave. Maybe real chips are no longer given on the quickie menu. The waitress was really nice, but I have to say as a very interesting Turkish place has opened just next door, I’d say the Mussel Inn needs to up their game and try harder. Don’t just rely on your reputation, you need to maintain it

The food is great and plenty, esp. if you enjoy local seafood. No choices except shell-fish and seafood, but that is not the reason i take give it 2 stars. The prices i believe do not accurately represent the cost of the ingredients, and the restaurant itself is in need of a make-over if to charge what it does. Advertised as informal, the Mussel Inn is certainly that– almost breaching on a café, rather than a clever, Scottish catch. Staff I found not rude, but rather dazed and not much attention paid with regard to drinks or orders. A shame for such good quality food that is served here.

if you’re not a seafood fan, this probably not the place for you! for those that are, you are in for a treat — the food is both hearty and fresh, and the staff are friendly and unobtrusive. there’s a lunchtime deal that will fill you up for £7.50, that’s pretty hard to beat. thoroughly recommended — dig in!
