We love pizza, you love pizza, heck even people who don’t like pizza are in denial about their love for pizza. Lets be honest, at half past four in the morning, most people in Glasgow would rather have a pizza than a kebab. One of GlasgowLiving’s writers love of pizza runs so deep that he once dropped his outside the pizza shop, directly onto the pavement, picked it up and ate it.(Don’t tell him we told you.) With that shocking admission out in the open, Glasgow Living brings you 8 of Glasgow’s best pizza joints.

I asked someone in work to recommend a pizza place as I had a hankering for pizza. This place came recommended with«oh yeah you need to try …» After many different spellings on Unilocal trying to find it only do discover I was misspelling it entirely… I spotted the menu on here, had a look at pizzas on offer and the plodded off to fill my belly On entering I was immediately spotted and a lady came over and offered me a selection of tables, I sat down, had a little look at what was on offer. Looking around the restaurants decorated well in an industrial themed upper half then an almost glam wood cabin table and décor lower half not sure how else to describe it. It is very unlike any other pizza place I’ve been in, the menu is very sparse, a selection of 8 pizza toppings, 7 side dishes and a handful of desserts However I don’t care I came here for pizza and that’s what they do, the simplicity of the menu on this occasion suited my needs perfectly I ordered a spiniata spicy salami from Calabria with tomato Sugo, mozzarella and evoo, I have no idea what evoo is so if anyone can fill me in that would be great I didn’t get a side but grabbed a Diet Coke and an espresso to wash down my meal Drinks came and hardly has I managed to pour my Diet Coke the pizza arrived, it was so fast I thought the obviously have the wrong table! No it was for me … Yeahhhhhhhh I was surprised firstly by the size of it, a large dominos sized pizza for half the price of a dominos! I loved the puffed up crust down to the sunken middle where all the delicious looking toppings lay in wait for me There was a handy pizza cutting wheel on the table with the cutlery, I tried using it however it wasn’t much use, the plate they used wasn’t really the best base to cut with a wheel, however my jaggy serrated knife made light work of the wheels failings The taste was sublime, a light almost airy dough, not over cooked in the slightest however still with a few little overboard scorch marks to give it an authentic flamed flavour. The spicy Salami is exactly that, spicy! Surprised again as normally this is a bland topping in other places however it gave it a really kick without overpowering the flavour from the tomato and cheese Regardless of the size of this I wasn’t letting it go to waste… I demolished the lot Reached from my espresso and took a large gulp, the caffeine hit me like that last alcoholic drink at the end of the night … You know the one that pushes you over the edge and you just know you have had enough… Well that’s the strength of their beans… After I shook off the buzz I sat back satisfied and content. Now just for my bill… I waited … No one came close enough to ask for it… Waited more, 10 mins passed, I still had my empty plate and no bill, I waited still and finally someone came over, got the bill and wanted to oh by card … No one again to grab the machine another while passed and I gave up and went to the bar to pay. The my would have been 5 star however they took longer to get my bill than it took to take my order, bring the food and for me to eat it! 18 mins to pay from finishing my food.

My husband and I celebrated Valentine’s Day the night before and the evening took us to Paesano Pizza. Lots of people had told us how amazing the pizza was and that we would not be disappointed. After living in Scottsdale and having Grimaldi’s Pizza numerous times, the bar has been set extremely high. Truthfully, we both agreed — there is no pizza better than Grimaldi’s. The ambiance: It’s a HUGE space with ample seating. We didn’t arrive until 9PM and the place was still over half full. The noise is loud with retro jams playing in the background and lots of people enjoying themselves. The service: They must work as one large group because we interacted with six or seven different staff throughout the evening. One person seated us, someone else took our order, a different person brought the drinks, someone else brought the food, and another brought us the bill. It doesn’t really allow for the servie to be personalized or really build that connection with your guests. Not a huge deal, but something to note. The food & beverage: Jordan ordered an Italian Sausage Pizza with chili peppers and buffalo mozzarella, while I ordered the White Pizza with mushrooms, spinach, and buffalo mozzarella. Thank goodness, we were pleasantly surprised with the quality and taste of the pizzas! Don’t get me wrong, they were certainly no Grimaldi’s but infinitely better than any other pizza we had in SF or Glasgow to date. The chili peppers were misleading because it turned out they were just red and green peppers with chili oil on top, and my white pizza had almost NO garlic on it. Seriously, only two bites of the entire pizza had garlic in them. Next time I will certainly request extra garlic in hopes that I get some. The crust on the pizza was phenomenal but the middle was a tad soggy. We ate it like NY style pizza — folded in half. They offer beer, wine, and soda — everything is pretty average in price 2 — 7# depending on what you order. I had tap water and Jordan had a glass of Syrah. It wasn’t anything special. Overall it was a great place for a Valentine’s date night, the food was certainly yummy, and we plan to go back again!

Paesano is a genuine 5 star restaurant. It’s a big challenge to add the already considerable plaudits this place has gained from my fellow Glasgow Unilocalers but here’s my best shot! The people running Paesano have invested serious dollar in creating a really cool contemporary experience. The décor is absolutely gorgeous from the moment you walk through the door — the open kitchen and rest rooms are equally well designed. Wee touches that make your experience outstanding include the superior cutlery — I know that might seem like a wee thing but it makes all the difference in the world when you’re carving up a pizza pie! The service is absolutely lightning fast and even on Valentine’s night we got a table right away and efficient service as always. I love that the £5 cheapest price point pizza is vegan and I have fun adding different vegan ingredients. The bijoux menu is great for people who get overwhelmed by choice! I love the salad and the olives too — and everything is so reasonably priced. I had the tomato sugo pizza with red onions and it was so wonderful. The sourdough base really shines through — I actually think that having less toppings lets these amazing authentic ingredients speak for themselves. There are specials to choose from every day including pizzas and desserts — this time we had New York cheese cake with ice cream which was divine. The only thing I’d like Paesano to change is to adopt a slightly more consistent tone of service — some staff are really chatty and some barely say a word. I don’t mind either way but as a regular customer you’re not sure which it’s going to be! I go to Paesano as often as I can and recommend it to people all the time — a realy valuable addition to the Glasgow food scene they have their menu, produce and décor absolutely bang on the money.

I recently moved back to Glasgow after working in Italy over the summer. Naples was love at first sight! I had the best pizza of my life there, so I was really excited when I read about Paesano. The chefs are from Naples, and the wood-fired pizza ovens were imported from Italy. Now that’s a commitment to pizza I can relate to. I waited 3 hours, yeah you heard me, 3 long hours sitting on a pavement of a Naples street to try the supposedly best pizza in town, aka l’antica pizzeria di Michele(if you re a «eat pray love» fan, you’ll know what I’m talking about). The pizza was like 3 pounds there, and so exquisite, so I had high expectations for Paesano. Maybe too high? Don’t get me wrong the pizzas are lovely, but my pizza was too soggy. Too much sauce perhaps? Too little mozzarella? Something not quite right. But the rest of the party were all 100% in love, and overall it is to me, the best pizza I ever had in Glasgow. So I’m still giving the place 5 stars, and another try when I ll start missing Italy again. Like in 5 min.

Been to Paesano several times and it is by far the best pizza in Glasgow. There’s 10 pizzas on the menu with a couple of specials usually on order. I once has a smoked cheese pizza on the specials, absolutely amazing. For the quality of ingredients and size of pizza on offer, I find the prices very reasonable. The base itself is thin and quite chewy, with the volume of tomato sauce on top, the base is quite soggy, I personally quite like that but those who enjoy a crispy base may not be as big a fan. Reccomend upgrading to the buffalo mozzarella, for the extra £1.50, worth it! I’ve had dessert a couple of times as well, usually a cake/cheesecake on offer, mostly very tasty, chocolate and raspberry cake that was on once was brilliant. Drinks selection is reasonable, 3 choices of white/red wine, Moretti on tap and quite a few soft drinks. Large beer hall style tables are great for big groups too, the open plan of the restaurant is great too, with the wood fire ovens in clear sight at the back
